Nathan’s POV I don’t know how long it’s going to take to get her to forgive me but I’m willing to do all I can to makes things right. “Another beer please” I ordered the bartender as I sat and drank with my good friend, Liam. “No way this is true” Liam laughed “It’s true man. I have a son but she won’t even let me near him.” I explained “Woahh! That’s crazy” Liam said before taking a big gulp of his beer. “What are you gonna do now” “What else can I do? I just have to keep trying. At first, I was doing this for the contract but now I just want to be in my son’s life” “She can’t do that to you, he’s your son” “She can” I said with a loud sigh “I know she’ll eventually cave. I mean it’s Rachel, she has a tough shell but she’s soft inside” Liam said. “I didn’t even know she was back in Los Angeles” Liam added. “Did she ever leave?” I asked with my eyebrows furrowed. “Yes man, she did. She went to live with her parents in Ohio for a few years. My ex, Sasha, said she had bumped into her a couple of times in Ohio and Rachel said she just needed some time away.” “I had no idea. Do you think she left because of me?” “Well, now that you mention she has a kid it all makes sense” Liam said “She probably needed help raising him so she went back to her parents.” “I feel so stupid” I said rubbing my eyes with my two hands. I can’t believe this happened. I’ve always hated my father for leaving my mum and I, and now I was doing the very same thing. I wish I could go back in time to fix everything. “Don’t beat yourself up about your past mistakes, you can’t do anything to change them. Just figure out how you want to fix them” “I want to be there for her and my son. I really do, but she won’t let me.” “You should be telling her this, not me” “I’ve tried, but she always shuts me down” “Nathan, you don’t expect her to run into your arms just because you finally showed up. She’s been through a whole lot, I can only imagine how much her life has changed because she’s raising your son. Meanwhile you’ve been drinking the most expensive wines and sleeping in a multimillion dollar mansion. You shouldn’t expect this to be easy but you shouldn’t give up either.” “I know, I know” I said “I’m going make things right somehow” ****** It had been two days since I last went to Rachel’s apartment, and I decided to go again today but this time I wrote her a letter. I went to her apartment and knocked twice like I always do but this time, I didn’t wait for her to open the door, instead I slipped the letter under the door and I left. The letter detailed how sorry I am and how willing I am to change. I explained how I wanted to be a present father to George and why she should let me. Two days after that, I had Bernard find out where George goes to school, it was a well known private school. I paid George’s school fees for the next 5 years and I attached the receipt to the next letter I hand delivered to her apartment. Over the next few weeks, I had sent Rachel multiple letters. Who knows if she even read them. Often I would have groceries delivered to her apartment so she and George could have good food to eat. I would send eggs, milk, bread, cereals, potatoes, and fruits. The delivery was always received by her, and the delivery man said she would tell him thank you but she never responded to my letters or sent me texts, not that I was expecting her to. “It’s been three weeks. I want to try visiting her again” I told Bernard, "Do you think I should?” “Go ahead” He said Later that night, I got dressed and headed to her apartment. I was hopeful that she would let me in this time, not that I would be angry if she didn’t. I went grocery shopping before I went to her place, I bought bread and some cereals for little George. When I got to her doorstep, I let out a sigh and prepared myself for our encounter. I lifted up my hand to knock but just then I saw a little boy walk down the street towards me, it was George and he was wearing one of the clothes I had bought him. This placed on a smile on my face. Behind him was a young woman in her early twenties, I would say she was 24. She was blonde with blue eyes and a bright smile. She walked behind George as he wobbled his way down the street. He took small unsteady steps, his chubby feet moving quickly as he tried he keep his balance. He tripped over his own steps but instead of crying, he burst into a fit of giggles and picked himself up making his way up to the doorstep. “Careful Georgie!” The blonde woman shouted behind him as she laughed gently. When he got to the doorstep, he held onto me with his little fingers in order to regain his balance. I looked down at him and smiled. This is my son. “Hey there, George” I said picking him up from the ground and carrying him in my arms. “Hello, do we know you?” The blonde woman said with a hint of fear as she approached the doorstep. “Uhm… sorta. I’m Nathan Blackwood” I said stretching out my hand for a handshake. “The Nathan Blackwood? LA’s hottest billionaire?” She asked in shock like she had just seen a ghost. “Yes, that Nathan” I said with a smile. “Where are my manners? I’m Amber Sandler” She said finally taking my hand in hers and giving me a handshake. “What are you doing here?” She asked in awe “I came to see Rachel and George” I said “Oh, you must be a really good friend of hers and George then. I’m surprised George isn’t crying at all, he usually cries when strangers pick him up.” Amber said with a smile. “Let’s go in, Rachel is a bit sick so she told me to babysit George for the day. I’m sure you know that, so let’s not bother her too much, you can say hi quickly and drop your gifts, then we’ll have to leave” Amber said, she seemed like the chatty type. “Uhm, are you in a hurry?” I asked her. “No, why?” She asked mischievously. “I was hoping to get to know George a bit more and you too. Is there any chance I can take you two out for dinner before we go in?” I asked in hope. “I would be crazy to say no to Nathan Blackwood”
