Chapter 4: Stay Behind.

Her pulse shot up, heat ran through her veins, her breath hitched, her eyes flickered as something inside her changed, and he felt it too. She felt her wolf presence, “Mate” Boa said, but faintly. “What's that, Boa? What happened?” She asked, inwardly, feeling a little scared and happy that Boa said something, even if she didn't hear her clearly. Boa became quiet, but she stayed close, Seraphina steadied herself. She had to stay in control, complete the mission and get the hell out of here. She covered her face with one hand, as if thinking. Then straightened and focused on the meeting. “Not here, not now, this is neither the right place nor the right time.” Kael said, trying to regain control internally. “Something just changed, I felt a change in our…” “Enough!” Kael raised his voice, and fully took control. Everyone's eyes were on him, the sudden force of his control had them confused. He felt their eyes on him too, he sighs inwardly. “We gain nothing by dividing ourselves. Trust is optional. Shared interests are enough. This will also send a message to our enemies and the witches that we're not to be messed with.” He said, coldly. Riven stepped forward with a polite smile. “Alpha, forgive me for speaking out of turn but can an alliance survive without trust, I mean by meeting them beforehand and trying to form this alliance, there must have been mutual agreements.” He paused and looked at Jack and Rowan. “Mutual agreements represent trust, don't you agree?” He smirked. Leon rolled his eyes, “What are you trying to get at, Riven?” “Yeahh, just say it. It's getting tiring.” Kael added, coldly. “I'm just saying we shouldn't just rush into this without having mutual trust.” He said, smiling politely. The room became tense, everyone had mixed reactions. Kael knew he had to put a stop to the meeting quickly, especially when there were other things he had to deal with, his gaze drifting to the back of the room. This was turning into a game, the meeting was turning to something else, like a mind game. It was beginning to be clear to her that Riven might not want this alliance to take place, but she felt that in a way, it’s good for her clan. “I don't know what point you're trying to make here but it's really not clear, gamma.” Said Jack, his arms crossed. Smiling mischievously, Riven seats back, Kael tapping his fingers on the arm on the chair. He glances at the elders, they were just silently observing. “That's because it's not something to be considered, being unclear like this is not good for our kingdom, don’t you think the witches would be able to attack us without fear, especially if we're unclear and divided?” Kael said, as the room fell silent, the question hit all of them, Riven’s smile dropped seeing people agreeing with him. “I won't interfere in your pack rulings, if the matter exceeds both of your hands, that's the only time I will get involved but otherwise we becoming allies guarantees our pack's strength.” He paused. He continued, “Which will multiply, we won't be involved in each other's business that's only when the witches are involved. And when we finally put a stop to their attacks, the alliance can be put off or not, it's up to everyone here.” Dangerous, clever, no wonder they feared him, he changed everything, even with Riven's smooth tactics and frankly she doesn't think they can say no to him unless they wish to be dead. He was a force to be reckoned with despite him being blind, Virelle told her about his disability. And he was handling it so well, he had control over the whole room and he knew what he was doing. Sera places her chin on her hands, staring at him, there was something about him she couldn't quite understand. Rowan clears his throat, stands, “I'm in for it alpha, besides this is not the time for petty fighting.” He glances at Jack, continuing. “It's the time where our pack's strength and teamwork is tested, we have to deal with the witches first, then we can figure out what to do.” “I concur too.” Said Jack, immediately standing up, looking at Rowan. “Yes, let's move forward with it, I am also in, alpha.” Kael nods, “Good.” He said it quietly, but powerful. Riven’s expression changed, glaring at them. Leon steps forward, bringing out a file. “Please come forward and sign…” “If I may add something.” A raspy but strong voice spoke, everyone looked at the person. Elder Theodore, he was a bald middle aged man with a cunning mind and a sharp tongue. Leon almost rolled his eyes. The elders of the council had been silent throughout the whole thing which had been intended. Kael did not move, his gaze still at the back then he turned to the elders side, and back. “Greetings to all of you, and my alpha.” He bows slightly, Kael doesn't react. “This meeting has been a bundle of roses to say, even with the thorns along the way, but still reached the point.” Said Theodore, smirking, Riven squinted his eyes. “Elder, there are other things to do, and I know this meeting was supposed to take a whole day but seeing how many hours we have spent on debating this and finally coming to an agreement, there's nothing left to do than sign the contract and we leave, let's leave at that, shall we?” Elder Rina spoke, she was the oldest member in the council, often referred to as the wise one. “Ahh yes elder Rina, I just wanted to offer a few words on the temporary alliance taking place and…” Rina gives him a look. “Yes, uhmm.. continue please.” He sits back down, Rina looks back at Kael. Riven left subtly, Leon continued, and some documents were signed, they were told to go and check everything out and be prepared. As the final signatures were taken. “You may all leave.” Kael said, wolves started filing out of Fang hall. Seraphina lowered her head and moved with the crowd. “Except the woman at the back.” He said not loud, but enough for Seraphina to hear him. She kept moving, she can't be the only woman at the back, but if she kept moving and he suspects something, there could be a problem. “The woman in a black gown.” Sera froze, how did he know what she was wearing, her mouth twitched, wasn't he blind? Leon looked back and closed the doors of the hall. Oh no, she was the only one left here, she turned slowly, swallowing hard. She stayed silent. Kael stood up, and moved to her side, not closely, there was distance. Whoa, how tall is he? Those thoughts ran through her mind as she watched him. “I'm six feet tall.” He said flatly. Sera was stunned. Can he hear her thoughts or does he read minds? A thought came to her, she moved closer until only inches remained between them, his face was art. Up close, his face was unfairly sharp and beautiful. He was more handsome than other men. He could easily stand out amongst many men in the room with his face, his height and just that aura immersing from him also, she thought, taken by his almost angelic yet sharp face. “Are you done staring?” He asked. He could feel her eyes burning into his face. She moved back quickly, startled, he could definitely read minds. She had to stay sharp and focused. She composed herself. “Can you read m…” He interrupted, “I can't read minds, but your thoughts are very loud and obvious, and I can feel the way your body is reacting.” He deadpanned. She scoffs silently, composes herself. “Why did you stop me from leaving, alpha?” She added. He stayed silent, El spoke. Can you feel it? She is our mate. But something feels wrong.
