Chapter 5: The wolf that possessed white fur

1055 Words
The hunter, with a cunning smile fired the shot, Arielle closed her eyes shut and braced herself for the pain, but that didn't happen. In fact she opened her eyes to see a huge brown wolf collide with the man, its claws slashing the man's chest. The hunter cried out for help, but he got no response back, as his cries started becoming still as the wolf's claws ripped through the air. She realized that the gun had been shot into the air, she looked around in warriness in search for the other hunters but she couldn't find them. She tried to rise, but the pain coursed through her body like electricity. Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit her, she realized that her wolf was weak from the first shifting, forceful awakening and the injuries caused by the hunters. She knew for a fact that all these incidents should have cost her wolf's life, but her wolf managed to stay alive- which wasn't an easy feat. She glanced at her body and with the amount of blood on her fur, she knew that the wound was worse than she thought. So, she wasn't shocked by the wave of fatigue that hit her, but she couldn't become vulnerable here. She didn't know the wolf that was fighting for her and she didn't know if the other hunters were on their way. Still in wolf form, she staggered forward, scanning the trees with desperate eyes, in search of the hunters. She sniffed the air, as her ears twitched, checking for signs of more hunters, but the woods were eerily still and quiet. No more hunters were in sight- for now. Her legs trembled, but she knew she had to muster as much strength as she could. She turned her gaze to the grown wolf- her unexpected savior. He was panting, eyes locked onto hers. Her vision swam, she tried to stay upright and alert, until she realized that the brown wolf was advancing towards her. She let out a whimper, to show her uneasiness to the close proximity they shared, since she didn't know him. She didn't know if he was a friend or a foe, she whimpered again to let him know how she felt, but he still stepped forward, as if telling that he didn't care what she thought. Arielle took a shaky step back, her instincts screaming at her to run. Run from the wolf Run from the hunters Run from her love Run from the pain Run from life. She wanted to run, shift or do something but she couldn't even move a muscle. With the wolf advancing towards her slowly, she willed herself to run with all the strength she has left- but her legs buckled. She collapsed, her breathing became shallow and her heartbeat became louder. She tried to stand up, but once again, she couldn't move a muscle. It felt like her muscles were failing herl. But she knew she couldn't lose her consciousness now. She had to protect herself from this wolf, but she couldn't move, even as she internally screamed at herself to get up, her body couldn't muster up the strength. She tried to stay conscious, her warriness of the wolf in front of her keeping her eyes open. Despite her best efforts, her eyelids began to drop, as the forest dimmed And as soon as the wolf loomed over her, she slipped into darkness. The last thing she heard was the wolf's growl. "This is the spot we found, alpha." Lucien's gamma's voice rang out in the air. He walked towards an oak tree that seemed to be stained with blood. Lucien crouched down and touched the oak tree. "Her blood is very strong and fresh, so this happened not quite long ago." Lucien stated. "Yes sir, but we got reports that the humans were already dead, and the DNA of the wolves that killed them is unknown." Lucien brows raised at this statement, he immediately stood up and turned to his gamma. "Why wasn't this reported to me before?" He asked, anger clearly visible in his eyes. He was finding it hard to remain calm in the situation and his subordinates weren't keeping him updated. "The DNA reports just came out, Alpha, we thought she was the one who shifted into her wolf and caused this damage, that's why we didn't report" the gamma said as he bowed his head in remorse. He could feel the chill in his bones, from Lucien's stare, and that scared him so much. Lucien simply stared at his gamma for a while before throwing his head back and letting out an exasperated sigh. He massaged his forehead, that seemed to be throbbing. "So what you are trying to tell me is that, a wolf seemed to help her, but his DNA isn't in our records?" "Yes, Alpha." "The only conclusion is that he has a high position in the realm, as werewolves with high positions don't have their DNA reports kept." "Yes, Alpha, and I believe that was why he had the courage to kill humans, as killing humans weakens werewolves." "Yeah, that would explain it, go find out which fur colour was found and find out which of the werewolves have those fur colour and deal with the rest" "Will do, Alpha" the gamma replied and walked away with the other werewolves, leaving Lucien alone in the scene. Lucien couldn't help but think of Arielle once more. Was she fine? Who saved her? Where did they take her? And were her wounds being taken care of? These questions ravaged his mind, and not being able to do anything, despite being one of the powerful creatures in all realms was indeed tiring. He felt so powerless, he couldn't even protect his lover, in his own realm. What a failure he turned out to be. He decided to go back to the mansion to wait for the reports, when some fur stuck in the blood got his attention. He picked it up, and even with the blood, they shined tirelessly. White fur? But, no wolves in all of the realms possessed white fur, as it was impossible to have that colour. So where did this fur come from? Who did it belong to, and how are they connected to Arielle.
