As Isabelle rushed into the inn at full speed, Xiao Liu slowly brought the car to a stop on the street. He cautiously asked, “Boss, where should we go now?”
“Take me to Yuhua Mansion, and book a car worth over 100,000 yuan for tonight!” Antoine replied indifferently.
“A car worth over 100,000 yuan? Are you buying groceries for the servants at home?” Xiao Liu asked, bewildered.
“From tomorrow onwards, don’t pick me up or drop me off anymore!” Before Xiao Liu could finish speaking, Antoine coldly interrupted him.
Xiao Liu was so frightened that he nearly lost his composure. He stammered, “Boss, what did I do wrong? I’ll change, I’ll definitely change. Please, don’t fire me! I have an 80-year-old mother and a two-year-old daughter. I can’t afford to lose my job!” He nearly burst into tears.
What a joke! Becoming the boss's personal driver was his greatest fortune. With a monthly salary of 20,000 USD and an annual salary of 350,000 USD, this was an enviable position in F City, even better than what most company executives earned. Now, he was about to lose it?
Antoine looked at Xiao Liu, whose face was filled with fear, and frowned. “I’m just saying you don’t have to pick me up and drop me off anymore. You’ll still be driving for the company as usual.”
Xiao Liu was overjoyed upon hearing this. “Thank you, boss, thank you! But then who will...?” He stopped himself midway, realizing his mistake.
It was his own big mouth and sympathy for the young madam that had made the boss unhappy, causing him to revoke the privilege of driving him to and from work. From now on, he must never speak out of turn again, even if the young madam was kidn*pped. He swore to himself that he would keep quiet. As the saying goes, "Disaster starts with the mouth," and Xiao Liu made a firm resolution.
Antoine, seeing Xiao Liu’s misunderstanding, did not bother to explain. Some things just weren’t meant to be discussed with him. He had to act like a true corporate executive, thoroughly test Isabelle, or perhaps change her mind and get rid of her.
Isabelle was drenched from head to toe, like a drowned rat, and hurriedly rushed into the room with her large suitcase.
The room was a tiny single room of about 4 or 5 square meters, with a bed, a chair, and a table. The only saving grace was that it had a bathroom and a water heater!
None of her clothes were dry, and the suitcase was soaked too. Isabelle dumped everything out of the suitcase, took off all her wet clothes, and took a long, hot shower. Then she collapsed onto the bed, covered herself with the blanket, and fell asleep instantly.
The next morning, Antoine called Isabelle. He had already informed his grandfather that Isabelle had been brought to Yuhua Mansion. If the plan failed, it would definitely provoke his grandfather's anger, possibly even triggering a heart attack. So he had to contact Isabelle early to make sure she was settled in.
“Your call cannot be completed because the phone is turned off.” Antoine was stunned when he heard the voicemail.
Could this woman be turning off her phone even while sleeping? Was she still not awake?
After a while, he called again, but the same message played: “Your call cannot be completed because the phone is turned off.”
By 8 AM, Antoine had already called more than ten times. This was the most times he had ever called someone, and it was the same person!
As a boss, Antoine was always on the receiving end of calls; he never called others, let alone repeatedly call someone!
Frustrated, he almost slammed his phone against the door as he listened to the voicemail.
“This woman is absolutely crazy. She’s deliberately teasing me, trying to get on my nerves!” In a fit of anger, he went downstairs to the underground garage and made his way to a Volkswagen Jetta.
This was the car Xiao Liu had arranged for him overnight, including the license plate and registration. Everything was settled in just one night.
Meanwhile, Isabelle woke up with a heavy head. The torrential rain yesterday had given her a cold!
She reached for her phone to check the time and see if she would be lucky enough to get another business opportunity today.
But when she picked up the phone, it was dead. The heavy rain had ruined it.
Looking at her phone, which still had water dripping from it, Isabelle sighed. She would have to spend another 200 yuan on a new phone, just when she had finally made a little money yesterday!
Her phones were always the cheapest, never exceeding 200 yuan!
Isabelle finally believed the ancient saying: "A broken house always suffers from endless rain." This was exactly her situation!
But in a way, it was a relief. At least she wouldn’t have to deal with her father and brother calling her anymore.
Who knows how crazily her father and brother were searching for her, trying to drag her back home!
Like father, like son, her cheap brother was just like her father—greedy, indulgent, and a gambler. If it weren’t for her grandmother’s care, she wouldn’t want to have anything to do with these two!
Isabelle sighed and buried her head in her pillow, trying to get some more sleep.
But not long after, she was jolted awake by loud knocking at the door. Startled, Isabelle quickly shook off her sleepiness. Could it be her father and brother?
She hastily threw on some clothes and tiptoed to the door, peeking through the peephole.
She sighed in relief when she saw it wasn’t her father and brother, but a man she didn’t recognize.
Not opening the door, she called out, “You’ve got the wrong place, we don’t know each other!”
Her clothes were still wet, and her suitcase was soaked too. She hadn’t had a chance to dry them yet, so she was just wearing something hastily put together and didn’t even have any underwear on. She certainly didn’t want a strange man coming in!
But as soon as she spoke, the knocking grew even louder, "Bang, bang, bang, bang!"
The man still didn’t speak; he just kept knocking.
Isabelle grew more suspicious. Was this someone her father had sent?
“Whoever you are, I don’t know you. Get lost now, or I’ll call the police!” Isabelle shouted in anger, her voice rising.
Anyone would back off once they heard the word “police.” But the man outside didn’t seem to care; he knocked even more urgently, even kicking the door!
Isabelle was certain that this man wasn’t up to anything good, and he was definitely related to her father. She grabbed her phone to call the police!
But then she remembered her phone was ruined, and it wouldn’t work!
Dressed poorly, with a headache, and feeling weak, she panicked.
“Who are you, knocking on my door like this?” A loud voice suddenly came from outside. The inn’s landlady had heard the noise and came over.
Isabelle breathed a sigh of relief and yelled through the door, “Landlady, I don’t know this person, please call the police!”
She was now certain that this man was sent by her father. Although she couldn’t clearly see his face, he had an ominous aura about him—he was definitely not a good person!
