Rain hammered the streets of Paris like war drums, echoing through the narrow alleyways and the polished corridors of Moreau Industries alike. Thunder groaned across the sky, a warning. Something was coming.
Inside the lake house sanctuary, Vivienne sat by the window wrapped in Liam’s shirt, fingers curled around a steaming cup of espresso. Her eyes weren’t on the storm. They were on the reflection staring back at her.... herself, yes, but harder. Sharper. More dangerous.
Liam came up behind her, his hands warm on her shoulders. "Langlois was the lynchpin. With him gone, Marcus is more exposed than ever."
She nodded. "Emma won’t stay quiet for long. We have a narrow window before she makes her move."
She turned to him. "We need the footage, Liam. The one Marcus has. If he leaks it, it won’t just destroy us.... it’ll destroy the company."
He nodded, jaw tightening. "Then it’s time to go hunting."
In a forgotten corner of Paris, Marcus tightened his grip around a tumbler of bourbon. His penthouse was eerily quiet.... Emma had vanished hours ago. Not a word, not a message. Just silence and shadows.
He paced, then stopped abruptly as his phone vibrated.
Unknown Number.
He answered.
A woman’s voice. Smooth. Clipped. Deadly.
"Marcus. Your secrets are unraveling. Shall we discuss terms before they’re scattered across every news outlet in Europe?"
His mouth curled. "Vivienne."
"Hardly," she said. "But I represent her interests. And yours, if you play smart."
Click.
He stared at the phone, then hurled it across the room.
Natalie stood in the shadowed war room of Moreau Industries, a dozen encrypted drives glowing across the glass table. She looked up as Vivienne entered.
"We have a lead. One of Marcus’s old security analysts just turned."
Vivienne’s heart thudded. "Where?"
"Marseille."
Liam entered, dressed for war. "Then we go now."
Vivienne’s lips curved. "Let’s burn his house down."
Marseille reeked of sea salt and secrets. In a secluded café off Rue Paradis, the analyst.... Luc.... waited, eyes darting toward every shadow.
Vivienne approached with Liam at her side. She slid into the seat across from Luc and dropped a photo on the table.
"You know what this is. You know what it could do."
Luc swallowed. "Marcus had a backup. A physical drive. Hidden. But... I know where."
He scribbled an address on a napkin.
Vivienne read it and rose. "You never saw us."
Luc nodded, breath shallow. "Never."
They reached the chateau in the countryside by dusk. Ivy crawled across the stone like secrets clinging to old bones. Liam picked the lock in seconds. They moved like predators.... silent, focused.
In the study, Vivienne found it.
A locked drawer.
Inside: the drive.
She turned to Liam, breathless. "We have it."
Then the lights exploded.
Gunfire tore through the window.
Liam tackled her to the ground, rolling them behind the desk. Glass shattered around them.
"Go!" he shouted.
But Vivienne wasn’t leaving him.
She drew the compact pistol from her boot and returned fire.
The assailants retreated.
Seconds stretched like centuries. Then silence.
Liam pulled her close. "You okay?"
She exhaled shakily. "I am now."
They torched the study. No trace. No trail.
Back in Paris, Emma stood over a city map in a dimly lit warehouse. Her eyes flicked to the red Xs.
"Marcus underestimated her. I won’t."
A new voice entered the room.
"You shouldn’t underestimate Liam either."
Emma turned. A tall man in a black coat.... Stranger.... Cold eyes.
"Who the hell are you?"
"An old friend of your enemies."
He handed her a flash drive. "This is the weapon you need."
Emma smiled. Something wicked.
Vivienne and Liam returned to the lake house, drenched, bloodied, victorious.
She uploaded the footage to Natalie’s system. Every trace of Marcus’s crimes now cataloged.
"We leak this, he’ll never recover," Natalie whispered.
Vivienne stared at the screen. Her reflection glared back. This was it.
The final storm was here.
