Prologue

I kept running.
"Come here my princess, I won't hurt you" said the man chasing me.
His princess. I smiled bitterly as I scamper.
I feel like I'm going in circles. This forest is so dark.
I heard the mans footsteps behind me so I ran faster than I have ever did my entire life.
"Why are you like this? why are you doing this? Stop!" I shouted while running.
He laughed like a maniac. Its alarming. It sent shivers down my spine.
"Why?" he laughed again. "This is all your fault! THIS is all your family's fault!"
Me? My family?
Before I could even think, there I was laying in the ground after I tripped on a big tree root.
I crawled as fast as I possibly could. But nothing was working. He was faster than I was.
"I caught you darling" he said in a dreadful voice.
I couldn't even recognize this man standing in front of me. He had a dagger in his hand and a pistol in pocket.
He began getting closer.
He pointed the dagger at my throat and dragged it down to my chest. He added a bit of force which made the dagger slightly deeper onto my skin.
His face getting closer at mine. He whispered in my ear.
"I like seeing you like this, Nicolette."
Hearing him mention my name made me utterly fearful.
With my eyes getting watery I looked up.
I saw him. I saw every detail of his face. His scar, his lips, his nose, and his eyes.
Those eyes that used to look at me so passionately, now looking at me full of hatred and anger.
"Val" I called his name in a whisper.
I could tell it caught him off guard but he tried to hide it.
"Why are you doing this?"
"I have no choice Nicole, I have to kill you." he said.
After that I heard a gunshot and everything went black.
