Chapter 11: Lines Crossed I slammed the car door shut, my hands trembling as I clutched the steering wheel. Reid sat quietly beside me, his small fingers playing with the hem of his shirt. Precious, unusually silent, shifted uncomfortably in the backseat. None of us had spoken since we left the company house. The weight of the eviction hung over us like a heavy storm cloud, suffocating and relentless. "Where are we going, Mum?" Reid finally broke the silence, his voice timid.
