Chapter 3: The Fear

Rai was helping Swapna to cut the vegetables, when Swapna asked, “Has Parth called you?”,
“No mom, I think it’s because they had to submit their phones, he is unable to contact”
“But beta, today they all are coming home and they are supposed to have their mobile with them by now”
“Probably his battery died and he is unable to contact, he has never done this before”
“Well can’t he ask someone to borrow him a phone for a while? I don’t know what’s with the let’s torture mom mission”
Rai started laughing listening to her mother-in-law but the old lady kept complaining about how careless her son is.
It would be wrong to say that Rai had no fear, but she did not want to express that in front of Swapna who had recently lost her husband and was suffering from high blood pressure.
Rai came to the kitchen along with the cut vegetables, while cooking her mind wandered of to her husband’s whereabouts. Her husband Major Parth Dutta was a very responsible man and had never done nothing like this before. Sometime they had to cut their conversations short but she was always well informed about his whereabouts. This is the first time he had done something so reckless. She had checked the news nothing related to dead soldiers came up. There was a news about slight tension at the border but nothing related to dead soldiers, so rai kept going thinking of bringing another way to bring up the voluntary retirement this time. This time she was determined to convince him.
Lost in her thoughts Rai kept cooking, suddenly the phone rang.
