Rai was sitting there in front of the man who promised her every meaningless thing, he told her that he would be by her side all her life, he showed her a dream of a happy life and now he was gone.
Suddenly, her right wrist hurt and she noticed the lady (Mrs. Reddy) had finally broken her bangles after trying hard enough. Mrs. Dasgupta from another side asked Mrs. Reddy not to do so with the other hand while Rai was mourning. Looking around in the room, Rai saw her mother-in-law and her mother had finally calmed down, now the only wailing was of her little girl who was probably hungry. Rai could not decide if her daughter was hungry or was mourning the death of her father who was still inside the house, still inside her reach. She didn’t know if her daughter was crying feeling bad for the man who had wept at her arrival.
Rai’s father, Tamal Mukherjee, came to Rai and informed her that the army is going to start their processing and they wanted her permission to proceed with it. Rai got up, one more time she moved forward to the good-looking man, who she fell in love with. The man was still beautiful in his Nobel aura, only now with his head smashed, no one could see much of it.
Rai kissed the uneven forehead and crawled back to where she was sitting, tears dropped one by one was soon it was in streams. She managed to climb up to her feet and proceed to the open area where all the show was to happen.
Show indeed! Though Rai didn’t say anything, in her heart, she blamed the military over the demise of her husband. Grinding her teeth, trying to stop her tears, Rai stood there in silence as the soldiers started firing.
