LUCIANO SIN RUSSO
I stood still, not moving an inch or uttering a single word as I watched those words fall out of my father's mouth. He wanted her. Of course, she was his wife after all.
For some odd reason, the thought of moving from where I was to fetch her didn't seem very pleasing to me. I didn't want to get her for my father. Probably because the thought of me being so close to her again managed to bring back memories of the previous night.
Memories I'd concluded to be unpleasant and unwanted.
Swallowing a groan, I shut my eyes as my brain decided to rebel. I couldn't get it out of my mind that easily. Not when all I seemed to be thinking about was how f*****g gorgeous she looked and how it took everything in me to pull away from her and not grab her and do sinful things to her.
Sinful things. That was exactly what they were as she belonged to my father.
"Luciano," my father called out to me before my thoughts could take an even wilder turn. Mentally thanking him for the interruption, I raised my head to meet him staring at me, an unfamiliar expression on his face. "Where is she? Get her here this instant."
Seeing no reason to object, I nodded and bowed lightly in agreement as I turned to look for her. I had no idea where she was but couldn't help but hope she was close by as I had no intention on roaming the house for so long with her constantly on my mind.
My little prayer got accepted as just as I was about to take a sharp turn out of the living room, I spotted our infamous bride behind the door.
"You're here," I breathed out, a little taken aback to meet her so suddenly. Testing my limits, I raised my eyes to have them fall directly on hers, my insides tingling as our eyes met.
"I-" it was as though she swallowed her words on meeting my gaze. Looking directly at her, I could tell she looked different. Her eyes were widened in shock and though I wished I was seeing otherwise, I could spot tears welled up in them.
She must have overheard my conversation with my father.
She looked hurt and betrayed, her whole body doing a terrible job at hiding her emotions. For some reason, the sight of her looking that way angered me but before I could allow those emotions creep its way towards me, I quickly slapped myself back into reality.
She was nothing but a fraud and deserved every bit of punishment that was going to be coming her way and more.
"Wipe your tears," I quickly breathed out to her, ensuring my words came out as harsh as possible. "And put on a smile. Except of course, you want to die."
My words had an immediate effect on her as I watched her quicky raise her delicate fingers to wipe her cheeks. I smirked, paying a bit too much attention on her as her fingers gently caressed her cheeks before moving over to brush her dark wavy hair. She blinked, giving my stare at her golden brown eyes a pause, her cheeks getting flushed as she pressed her pale red lips together.
Letting out a fake cough, I adjusted my standing position and repositioned my gaze. Not of course, without catching a glimpse of her lips and pressing mine against each other first.
"If you're done," I said, knowing very well I wouldn't mind her a taking a bit longer so I could satisfy my urges to stare at her for a while more. "Walk in front of me."
With a sheepish nod, she moved ahead of and led the way to the living room. Eyes fixed on her back view, I walked behind her and had us get to the living room in no time.
"Scarlet."
Like I was the one called, the sound of my father's voice had me immediately raise my eyes to meet his. Literally immediately, I watched his eyes lit up with a familiar emotion. It was that of lust.
"Oh, Scarlet, there you are," he said as she approached him. He didn't hesitate to shamelessly move towards her and wrap his hand around her waist. "Where have you been? Hiding from me?"
I tried to look away but I couldn't. I could feel my blood boil with anger and disgust as I watched him pretty much reduce a woman like her to nothing but his new pleasure toy.
"Don't try to hide from me," he continued, giving her chin a little raise as his eyes literally roamed her whole body, not leaving a single inch behind. "You belong to me now, remember?"
I could have sworn I had to fight the urge to move closer to them and pull her as far away as possible from him.
"Alphonso," he called out to his steward. "Take her things to my room."
Heaving a light sigh of relief, I watched him temporarily shift his gaze from her to the steward and then the maid next. "You'll be in charge of her. Help her with her bath and make sure she's dressed appropriately by the time I'm back. I'll be heading out for now so you'd better ensure the time I spend without being alone with my little w***e is worth it by the time I get back."
Balling my fists at his remark, I stomached my anger and watched him stroll out of the living room with his daughters all excitedly tailing him. With an eyebrow raise, I untightened my fists and slowly turned, suddenly realizing it was just me left alone in the living room with her.
Whatever words I was about to say got stuck in my throat as I looked at the version of her staring at me. It was hard to believe she the same person from 24 hours ago as there was suddenly a sharp contrast in her aura.
Compared to the innocent, sweet and timid looking soul I was slowly getting used to, she was bubbling with anger and was shooting lasers through her eyes. Needless to say, she seemed so angry I was confident if looks could kill, I'd have been buried deep six foot under several minutes ago.
"Sc-"
"How dare you!" She cut my words short with a loud cry. Immediately, she walked up towards me and lashed out again, tears threatening to escape from her eyes. "How could you do this to me?! You betrayed me and made me think I was getting married to you!"
For a second, I couldn't help but wish that wasn't the case and had truly just gotten married to her but it didn't last long as her sharp pained induced voice pulled me back into reality.
"How could you lie to me like that?!"
"Quit dreaming," I replied her coldly. "Me? Get married to you? Don't be mistaken. A man like me can never be with a woman like you. Did you forget already? The only reason you're here is to serve as a price for your father's foolish decisions. You were sold and you're no different to every piece of furniture in this house so you better get that tattooed in your brain and face your reality!"
"No," she didn't stop. "How could you?! How could you be so inhumane?! You lied! You betrayed me! You shouldn't have-"
I let out a hiss as she continued to cry out to me. I was angered and though I couldn't quite figure out if the emotion was birthed as a result of her annoying wails or the fact that I felt so powerless about the whole situation. All I knew was I needed it to stop.
"That's enough!" I raised my voice at her, immediately grabbing her my the arm to pull her close to me. My actions had her in shock for a while and managed to completely silence her the second I placed my palm over her mouth. "Enough."
My voice grew lower as I stared at her, watching her press her lips against each other and in the process, pressing them against my palm. I swallowed, hating how her soft lips against my palm rendered me powerless and unable to shout at her like I wanted to.
Unable to look away, I stared directly at her eyes, my breathing suddenly becoming heavy followed by heart skipping numerous beats on its own accord. There was almost no space between us and as much as I wanted to push her away from me to break the tension that was quickly growing between us, I found myself slowly pulling her closer.
"If you really love your life," I managed to breathe out to her, getting rid of every urge to act otherwise. "You better lay low and do only what you're asked to."
