My Son Is Born

866 Words
I am pacing back and forth in front of the room. To tell the truth, I have never been this nervous except from when I am having my first night with my wife. Today, my wife is expected to give birth. Some of the neighbors are there consoling me. They are telling me that my wife is accompanied by an experienced midwife and there will be no problem. I can only hear my wife screaming from inside the room and that did nothing to reduce my nervousness. For me who have nothing when I come to this world one year ago, this is something that can be said as another reason for me to keep on living. I already give up on my life before I met my wife who is giving me a new reason for it. Now, my child is going to be another reason for me to keep on doing my best. I can hear my wife screaming again, this time, it was really loud. It was as if she was experiencing a great amount of pain. I can never imagine her to be in this kind of condition. "Oeeee." After fifteen minutes of hard labor, I can hear a baby cry. "Congratulations your highness, it's a boy." I can hear the midwife saying that and the neighbors who are accompanying me can hear that too. Surprisingly, the neighbors are cheering even louder than me. "I'm finally becoming a father!" I shouted it out loud and entered the room. I saw my wife with a weak complexion laying on the bed. I also see a baby in her arms. It seems that she is breastfeeding the baby. Realizing that I entered the room, my wife looked at me and smile. I swear that it was the most beautiful smile that I have ever seen. That smile is full of love, happiness, and something that words can't even describe. I immediately hugged my wife and our son in her arms. "I love you." She whispered it softly to my ear. I looked at her and say I love you too back. While I was hugging her and our son, there's an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. It was as if something is prickling my chest. I looked down and saw my son's face. It wasn't determined yet but I am so sure that he will be a handsome one. My wife's outstandingly beautiful genes combined with my peerless and handsome (self-proclaimed) genes clearly inherited by him. But what's with this prickling feeling that is continuously distracting me? I looked down and I finally realized where it is coming from. There are two protruding horns coming out from my son's head. It was like the horn that commonly appears on a high ranking demon. Eh, is my child a demon? Does it mean that my wife cheated on me with a demon? This isn't my son! That thought immediately brings me from heaven to hell. This is all a lie, right? There's no way my wife cheated on me. There's no way she cheated with a demon which resulting in this demonic child. However, my train of thought is stopped by my wife's words. "Thank you my dear for giving me a son that I have been waiting for. The demon king throne finally has an heir." Eh? The heir of the demon king? It was as if she can read my mind, my wife continues to speak. "I am sorry. I never wanted to hide this from you but I never got the chance to tell you the truth. I am Roselia Redheart the VII. I am the 36th demon king. Our son will be the one to inherit my throne and be the 37th demon king." Like a thunder in the middle of a clear sky, it was so shocking and too sudden. My wife is the demon king? I looked at her once again and I found the woman that I love looking at me, waiting for my reaction with hopeful eyes. I can't possibly break her expectation. What if she didn't tell me all this time? What if my wife is the demon king? It doesn't change the fact that I love her. Realizing that my wife is the demon king, I finally realized that it was something that I need to keep secret. "SSSShhhh! Don't say something like that out loud. What if the people decided to kill you and our son?" Knowing that the midwife and anyone else wasn't around us and probably outside the room, I feel relieved that the secret remains hidden. I however found another problem. "But, how can we hide his horn?" Looking at my wife, I believe she should have a way to hide the horn since even up to this point, I never saw her horn. She smiled once again, the smile that has stolen my heart and will steal anyone who saw it. "Don't worry my silly husband. I have cast magic to conceal it." "Ah, is that so." I am feeling relieved that my son's identity won't be discovered by the neighbor. I know that my wife is still the best.
