I'll go home, pack my bags, and get
the hell out of this city. As I am thinking about that, a soft, low voice suddenly speaks from right behind me.
"Going somewhere, Serena?"
I jumped at the noise. My feet froze, and
cringe. He's on to me. He knows I did what I did intentionally. But exactly how much of the truth has he put together? What does he suspect about me? Steeling my gaze, I glanced over my
shoulder.
"I'm going home. The club scene isn't really my thing."
"You want to tell me what all that was about, then?" he asked.
"Not really. Have a good night, Vincent. It was nice meeting you, but you'd better get back in there before Matthew gets in trouble or something."
I start walking again, but he grabs my hand, whirling me around to face him. I could pull out of his grip. He's not holding me tightly... I tried to get rid of him. And that's exactly what I do. I ran away with all my might without looking back. I don't care what kind of monster he is, but right now, I just want to go and protect myself, but literally, a few seconds later, I bump into him again. He grabs me by my arm, and this time it's a lot rougher than before.
" Serena,"
The way he's grabbing me gives me a
glimpse of his thoughts.
"Wait! He's... He's the worst of all monsters. They loathe his kind above any other. They're ruthless, bloodsucking,
twisted killers. He is a vampire." I thought.
Vampires can smell fear-this I do know
For a fact-but I can't help the terror that
surges through me.
" What happened?"
I need more distance between us-not
that it would matter if he decided to
attack. He can move inhumanly fast. I'll
never escape him. I'm unable to make more than a whisper of a sound.
"Stay away from me."
He jerks with a start as realization sweeps over him. My heart skips a beat or two. He knows I know. I'm so dead.
" You know what I am?"
" I don't know, what are you talking about?"
Vincent's eyes flashed red, and in a blink.
He's holding me painfully tight against
his chest.
" Don't lie to me. You know all the secrets of the dark world, don't you? How?"
" I don't know what you are saying?"
His fangs haven't descended, but I know they're there. The hideous creature makes my skin crawl. I don't want him to touch me. I don't want to be in his head.
" I won't hurt you."
" If you don't want to hurt me, why won't you let me go?"
" I can't let you go because I need an answer."
When I realize he intends to take me to
his master, I finally succumb to panic.
"No! Not to the vampires. I can't go
there. You can't take me there."
I don't know when my knees buckled,
but he is now holding my limp body.
upright.
"It'll be okay. Relax. I'm not going to hurt you."
"Please. If l have to die, be merciful, and do it now. Fast. Don't take me to your master. I can't go to the vampires. I know what your kind do to humans. Please, Vincent... anything but vampires."
I've never begged in my life, and I hate
that I'm doing it now. I hate Vincent for
Make me do it.
" Look at me."
Vincent's fingers pressed my chin up toward his face, and then I felt my back.
of his hand brushed my cheek.
I know I shouldn't. I can't remember
why, but l know I'm not supposed to
Look into his eyes.
" Open your eyes, Serena."
I c***k. When I look at his beautiful azure
You are right there, waiting to greet
mine. My head swims, and I remember why I wasn't supposed to meet his gaze.
"You're compelling me. You son of
a…"
The floor scooped me up where I stood, and I blinked as it hit me.
I fell hard on the pavement before I could finish my sentence. Everything seems blurry but the thing I heard... is...
" LEAVE THE GIRL ALONE! YOU SON OF A b***h"
Vincent spun around on his heel and all I could see was the black silhouette of a man. He stood rigid in the moonlight, his Vincent staring at him in fear as his eyes began to change from their normal bright green to an insane yellow glow. He screamed in agony as his knees reversed direction and the bones shifted inside him.. his face contorted as the long wolf's muzzle extended out in front of him, and he looked forward into his hands. His screams turned into a long howl like the
Dark fur sprouted from his body, and his clothing tore itself from his body as his muscles increased in size.
I am scared... I mean really scared, not just hearing a noise in the night, or standing toe to toe with someone twice your size who wants to pound you into the earth - it feels as if I am being injected with darkness. It's like black water as cold as ice settling in my body where my blood and marrow used to be, pushing every other feeling out as it fills me from my feet to my scalp. It leaves me with nothing. Surprisingly, fainting sounded like a really good idea. If I fainted, I'd be unconscious, so I wouldn't have to see the impossible anymore, nor would I have to feel so dizzy and sick. Then maybe when I woke up, all of this would go away and I'd find it was all just a bad dream. The mist started to turn dark around the edges... I saw that beast chase Vincent and everything went black...
