NEW BEGINNING

Aubrey’s POV

"Arghh" I rubbed my eyes annoyingly as the ray of sun entered my eyes. I knew it was time to get out of bed, but I was too lazy to stand up, "just a little longer" I mumbled to myself.

Like a jolt of electric my eyes shot open, I glanced at the medium sized wall clock hanging on the wall, it was already pass 8.

"ohh no" I cried out. Today is my first day working at a fancy restaurant which branch was opened two bus stops away from my street, I hurriedly got out of bed, quickly brushed my teeth, took my bath, wore my already neatly ironed clothes which I did last night, I was still struggling to wear my shoes before the toaster dinged, I quickly had a bite of the toasted bread, packed my long black hair into a bun, I almost forgot to button my white printed button down shirt, I looked at myself on the mirror as I spray myself the lavender mist perfume I got last week, I didn't apply any makeup on my face since I'm not much of a fan of it, I look almost perfect if not for my current bankrupt state, I immediately shook off the thought,

"Today is a good day, no negative thoughts" I encouraged myself, I was busy admiring myself when I heard a car horn at the front of my house. It was Lisa, my best friend since childhood, she has been so supportive even when I got scammed by my ex which led to my current situation.

"BEEP BEEP", the car horned for a second time which led me out of my train of thoughts. I quickly grabbed my bag, looked at myself for the last time and worded "I can do it".

What took you so long?, (I already expected that) it's your first day at work, at the almighty M&S Restaurant, do you think it was easy to get a spot there?, I shot her a proud look, a smirk forming at the edge of my perfectly shaped lips, She raised her hands in surrender, "Okay fine, it wasn't that hard but do you know the number of people looking for that opportunity, Little miss" she pouted after her queries. Lisa is the daughter of the mayor of New York , Mr. Donalds, her mum died when she was Four, One could easily say she was born with a silver spoon, I'm glad she didn't end up like me whose father abandoned my mother when I was 2, Lucky her!.

I'm sorry, I guess my alarm is faulty, it didn't wake me up as usual, I pleaded.

Of course there is always an excuse, we both laughed.

I won't be here to save you tomorrow, I've got to go to the mayor's mansion today, she sighed after saying that

Another blind date?, I already knew the reply

Yes yes, why can't I stay unmarried, I prefer hooking up with pretty boys, she winked at me

You can't continue drooling over "Pretty boys" you'll only get your heart broken, I sighed

And you can't continue to be single for the rest of your life, don't you think it's time to move on?, the expression on her face turned serious and concerned

You're acting like my mum now, I chuckled

My heart is not ready and I have to set up my life to a good standard, that's all I'm thinking of now, I'm not ready for another burden

But....., I cut her words "We are here" it's my first day at work and you don't want them to have a bad impression, catch up with you later, thanks for dropping me off, love you, I alighted the 2021 Toyota Camry and waved her good bye.

I knew her eyes were still on me till I entered the huge and fancy building

Lisa sighed, She always avoids that topic, I just want her to be happy, sigh. Oh I forgot to wish her good luck.

I felt my phone vibrating inside my bag, who could it be?, I picked up the call while walking into the building.

Don't be too nervous, you can do it, good luck, have the greatest first day of work, I smiled at how sweet and supportive she is, Thank you and have a nice day, I replied feeling the warmth spread all over me

Sure I will, I'll hang up now, Lisa said

Okay then, bye, the call disconnected

I felt a new feeling of confident. The restaurant looked and smelled like money was really invested on it, wow!, I muttered to myself. I quickly walked to the manager's office where I saw my fellow colleagues.

Good morning everyone, the manager Mr. Austin greeted, he looked like a black American, his caramel skin complimented his looks, he has an amber shaped eyes, his lips were perfectly defined, he had a brownish and greenish color eyes, his body built was perfect, his hair was combed out perfectly, and his beard was trimmed neatly, with one glance anyone could say his looks were perfect, but his totally not my type, maybe because he looks too good to be true, I shrugged off my thoughts. I saw some girls ogling at him, I chuckled within me. For a while we all forgot to respond, until Miss Margret cleared her throat and everyone came back to reality.

Good morning sir!, we all responded, some ladies were embarrassed seeing that they have been caught,

No slacking off !, He warned

You are all welcome to one of M&S Prestigious company. There are some rules we have to abide by, if you feel uncomfortable with them, feel free to use the exist door, he smirked.

Rule number one, no late coming, you could no longer hear the playfulness in his voice, he looked dead serious

Rule number two, Always keep the place clean and in order, a tiny little dirt can get you fired, and there goes the devilish smirk which sent shivers to everyone spine, and then the rules went on and on.

So you all will be grouped into departments with your respective heads, he concluded. The grouping went smoothly until I started feeling someone's gaze behind me, I turned back just to see two ladies staring at me maliciously, I earned enemies at my first day, I chuckled silently not giving them attention anymore.
