We are going home right now,” Alaric said.
“No, I am not going anywhere until you tell me the truth, and I need to know everything. I mean everything,” I said.
“Looks like your beloved uncle will not tell you anything. Maybe I should step in?” That guy from the porch held out his hand. “I am Liam.”
Alaric grabbed my arm.
“Let’s get you home right this moment.”
I tried to yank my hand away, but he was strong; his grip on my arm was as if I would fly away if he didn’t hold on to me.
“Let go of me. I am not going with you anywhere until you tell me everything.”
“Your mother and father are alphas,” Liam said.
I tilted my head. “What do you mean, Alpha? As in… like in werewolves?”
He took a few steps towards me when Alaric stepped in front of me.
“If you don’t shut up now—”
“What will you do?” Liam’s face turned angry, and the woman behind him was trying to control him.
“Alaric!” I yelled.
Everyone turned to me; all eyes were on me.
“You have already transformed in front of my eyes. That’s not what you were trying to hide. Then what is it? WHO KILLED MY FAMILY?”
Everyone was silent. All we could hear were birds chirping and leaves rustling in the woods.
“Xavier Lennox is the one who killed your family.
Your family is the only one in our whole pack who are original alphas. Your mother and father were the original alphas who used to be leaders of whole packs in our world.”
“What do you mean by alphas? I… don’t… understand.”
I paused to look at Alaric, but he stood there like a statue.
“What’s he talking about?”
“You will know, little bird. You will.”
He tilted his head towards Alaric.
“Why he refused to tell you the truth.”
“When your father and mother had their first son, we didn’t know back then, but all you kids somehow inherited the original Alpha’s blood. Not just your parents’ pure blood, but the original one— the only Alpha blood that can turn whenever you want.
“That kind of blood would wipe out the entire line of vampires and any creature in this world if we got tangled up with them. So many people came to know about this and started attacking our packs one by one to kill you all.
“Xavier, the hybrid vampire, was the one who led that war. He portrayed himself as your uncle’s friend and betrayed us. But your uncle didn’t let us kill him when we had the chance. He was ruthless. He would wipe out anyone who got in his path. He wouldn’t back off from killing his own—the ruthless, cold-hearted original vampire who can’t be killed by anyone.” He stepped towards me.
“But your uncle betrayed our plan and made him even more powerful with your blood; he thought he was his friend.”
“You do not know what happened,” Alaric yelled at Liam.
He turned to Alaric.
“Is there a lie? Did I say anything wrong? Weren’t you the reason for everything going south and now for us losing our Alphas?”
His silence was louder, and I knew exactly who was telling the truth.
“Your parents wanted to protect you from everyone, so they moved far away from all of us and raised you without involving you in any of this.”
“How is my blood a threat to them? How am I a threat to them?” I asked.
He looked at Alaric. “There’s a spell and a curse. When the pure-blood Alpha is born, that is the end of all the unnatural creatures living against nature’s wish.”
“Then why don’t I feel anything? Why can’t I turn into a wolf like you guys?” I asked.
Lucas sighed. “Have you never watched movies?” He paused.
“You have to kill someone to turn.” Alaric added, “You have to kill someone to turn.”
I took a few steps towards Alaric. “You prefer your friend over your family?”
“You think I am sitting idle? I WILL NOT SIT BACK AND LET THE BASTARD WHO KILLED MY FAMILY BE AT PEACE.”
He looked around when he said that.
