Chapter 9   Maurice felt the boards of the floor creak beneath him as he walked slowly across the university recreation hall. Most of the faculty had gone home and he had an opportunity to weigh the odds against him. They were stacked rather high, even when he discounted Ellen's suspicion and the doubts regarding his fidelity which must still bother her. He gazed at the tile wall beside him.
