Chapter 13

1929 Words
Zane I wasn´t surprised she didn't recognize me. I had done everything to stay away from social events even as a teenager. However, my name didn't seem to ring a bell with her at all. "Wildflower, are you okay?" I could feel her trying to pull away from me but damn if I was going to allow it, fu*k that. Instead, I held her hand in mine and refused to let go. I kissed the back of it, trying to give her time to collect herself, but the suspense was killing me. “Say something, please. Are you alright?” “Honestly, I don´t know.” She was staring at our intertwined hands, and I had no fu*king idea what was going through her head. We hadn't bonded yet so I couldn't feel what she felt, so I didn't know how to fix this. The sense of powerlessness it brought pis*ed me off. "Lily, nothing has changed. I'm the same man I was five minutes ago." I pleaded with her. I met Lucien's eyes. He was watching us intently. "Would you like a few minutes to yourselves?" Before I could answer, Lily was ahead of me, "I'm fine, please continue with your story." Lucien looked at her intently, studied her as if she were a puzzle. Had another man lingered on her for that long, I would have lost my temper. But I knew that Lucien saw her as family already, as a sister. He lost his own family in a tragic accident when he was barely 18. Today he kept to himself. The only one who really knew him was me and over the last 80 years we had become closer than I was with anyone in my actual family. I loved him like a brother and there was nothing I wouldn't do for him. Although we fought sometimes, we always did it with love. "I couldn't help but notice, Lily, that your reaction to Zane's revelation wasn´t at all like most people's. When other Lycans or werewolves hear about the royals, they light up like a christmas tree. With greed, lust and the need to do anything for the chance to bask in their glory. Yet you reacted by pulling away. The glow in your eyes diminished. Why is that?" I'm pis*ed that he's calling her out. Let her deal with her feelings in peace for fu*ks sake. She was emotional after everything that happened, and I did't want to put more burden on her shoulders. But the look he gave me told me to back off. I didn't want to back down on anyone when it came to my mate, but in the end, I had to trust that he knew what he was doing. If he wasn´t, then I was going to beat the sh*t out of him for upsetting her. I could see that my wildflower was deliberating with herself. Honestly, I was terrified. Terrified that she would want to leave, not that I would let her. I would do everything in my power to make her want to stay. If she wanted me to give up my title, no problem. She wanted 10 orga*ms in one night. I'll do it. There's nothing I wouldn't do for her. I just had to make her understand that. *** Lily How do I even begin to answer Lucien's question? The answer was complicated and long and I had a hard time understanding my own reaction. But he was right that I pulled away. I shut myself off as I used to do when they bullied and shunned me. “The answer you seek isn`t simple, Lucien. Or short for that matter.” "No problem, Lily. We have time, please enlighten us.” Lucien replied as Zane stroked my calf with one hand and squeezes my hand with the other to give me the courage to continue. Although I was afraid that when my story was finished, he wouldn't want to be with me anymore. But better he dump now than later. "My mother's name was Eloise. She was an omega in my pack, the Bloodmoon pack. She was the pack's Alpha's true mate. When they met, he seduced her and promised her a life of happiness. He never marked her, said they would wait until the mating ceremony. But one day, he came home with a new she-wolf on his arm, another pack's Alpha's daughter. Unfortunately, mom was already pregnant with me. She tried to leave but he stopped her and forced her to stay. After I was born, she took her own life. She left me a letter telling me everything. Explained that the pain that came when he was with the other woman was so deep that she could no longer live with it. That it would eventually take her life whether she wanted it or not. That she would rather end on her own terms. She wrote that she loved me and would watch over me from the other side. Anyway, after that, I was raised by a she-wolf named Wanda. But when I was seven she disappeared. How or why I don't know. It is still a mystery. Then Corbin, the Alpha of the pack, and my biological father came and picked me up in our run-down cabin. Took me to the packhouse and let me live as his bastard daughter. My stepmother hated me and let me know about it daily. She forced me to sleep in a small storage room in the basement and forced me to work all my free time when I wasn't at school. She also made my brothers bully and push me around. Said I was worthless because I was a bastard. If they had parties or gatherings where they invited other packs, I had to sit locked in the room in the basement because I was a disgrace. I had a friend though, Cassie. Her father is the strongest warrior in the pack. When she came up to me at school, fed me and protected me whenever she could, my stepmother tried to threaten her. Her father didn't take it too well and stood up against our Luna. I don't know what was said that time, but after that no one tried to come between me and Cassie anymore. When I turned 18, Cassie's parents arranged for me to escape from our pack. I had no money, but they had saved up for a long time to be able to give me a chance at another life. When I was on my way out to meet them at the pack border, my stepmother came and drugged me. That's the last thing I remember before I woke up in a small cage in a dark basement where lots of other she-wolves were kept captive.” I watched Lucien throughout my story, too afraid of Zane's reaction to manage to look his way. I had a feeling that Lucien was the type of man who rarely showed his feelings to anyone. But still, I could see how his facial expression swayed between anger, sadness and pity all wrapped up in each other. The only way I knew Zane heard my story was by his hand moving from caressing to grabbing my calf. "Lucien, can you excuse us for a little while. I need to speak to my mate for a moment". Lucien nodded and left us. Leaving me alone to whatever fate I would now face. "Baby, look at me." The fact that he still called me baby must be positive at least. "I understand if you want me to go, Zane. This is what I was trying to tell you before. That you can find someone better." Zane grabbed my jaw and forced me to meet his eyes. He looked angry. Like really, really angry. I could feel the tears slowly starting to fall. “Fu*king hell! If I ever hear you talk about yourself like that again, I will pull you down over my lap and spank you until you can't sit on that pretty behind for days. Have I made myself clear?” "But you're a Prince, Zane. A prince. I'm not worthy enough to even be in the same room as you. You can say what you want, but I'm still just a bastard omega. Shunned and unwanted." I couldn't hold back the tears anymore and started sobbing. I tried to curl up into a ball, make myself invisible in my breakdown. Because I didn't want him to see me like this, but I couldn't seem to stop. It was as if someone opened the gates to a water dam. "Damn them all to hell. Fu*king bastards.."I think he was muttering about death and dismemberment as well, but I couldn't hear him over my own sobbing sounds. Before I knew it, he was lifting me so I was straddling him. He buried his face in my hair as he held me tight to his chest. I felt the tears slowly starting to run out as he caressed my back. "Listen to me carefully, Wildflower. They're all idiots. They'll get their punishment for how they treated you. Don't believe otherwise. But I need to know that you believe me when I say that I don't want anyone but you. I will never ever replace you and you deserve to be happy and to be happy with me. Prince or not prince, doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is you and me and how we make each other feel. You are the piece that was missing from my soul and losing you would break me. Look me in the eyes and tell me you believe me." When I leaned back and came face to face with this wonderful man, I saw nothing but honesty. His eyes were so vulnerable, hopeful, that I couldn't help but shed another tear. A happy tear because fate had brought him into my life. A tear because, after all, I might be able to have a good life without constant fear and depression. He wiped it away with his thumb, waiting for my answer. "I believe you". He lowerd his face and gave me the sweetest kiss. "Best see to it that you do, my little wildcat." I couldn't help but give a little smile. “Watch yourself." I tried to give him a stern look. He nibbled on my neck, causing me to let out a yelp. He chuckled against my skin. "It's been a long day, wildflower. Time to go to bed. The rest will have to wait until tomorrow." I felt completely physically and mentally exhausted, so I could only nod in agreement. He goes to stand up with my legs wrapped around his waist. I nuzzled his neck, inhaling the calming scent of sandalwood and leather. In the bedroom, he put me down and, in silence, we undressed each other. It was probably challenging fate to sleep in just our underwear. But after everything that happened today, I really needed to feel his skin against mine, feel the tingles everywhere our bodies touched and I belive he felt the same. Under the covers, he pulled my body against his, my back against his chest, spooning each other. He wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me as close as possible. I slid my arm along his, interlacing our fingers on my stomach. "Goodnight My Love." "Goodnight my prince." That night was the best sleep I ever had...
