Chapter 41

Lily Grandpa handed me and Adam over to the two guards waiting by the stairwell. He wanted to go read the letter in his room while Adam and I went to find the others. Our spirits had greatly improved with each step we took further from the basement, away from the past. We shared funny memories and laughed together as we walked back. To finally get to know each other was a wonderful feeling, to say the least. I would never have believed that Adam was such a kind, sensitive soul. Did it make me selfish that I had never noticed who he really was or was I just too emotionally broken before to be able to take in other people's feelings as well? The thought worried me. “Forgive me, Adam, for never seeing you for who you truly were. I really hope I get a chance to be a better big sister to you from now on,” I exclaimed. Adam stopped, looking aghast. “For the love of the moon goddess! You have nothing, absolutely nothing to apologize for. You could not have approached me without harsh consequences on your part. I would never want that, ever. I'll have to make it up to you, Lily. Not the other way around.” He uttered, his expression guilt stricken. "Why don't you and I make a pact? From now on, we will forgive everything from the past. We release all guilt, all ifs and buts. And from now on we promise and swear to always be friends, siblings who have each other's backs, who listen and are there for each other, no matter what.” I suggested, looking at Adam intently as his face went from guilt to hope and, for the first time, I got to see a big smile on his face. “Nothing would make me happier. I promise to never let you down, Lily.” “And I promise you, Adam, to always be there no matter what.” I vowed and gave him a sisterly hug before we started walking through the packhouse again when laughter and loud voices interrupted us. In the hallway, we were met by none other than my former bullies. The group of five stopped when they saw me. Looking surprised before they started whispering to each other, glancing at me. I didn't have time or energy for them. "Come on let's go Adam." I said before we tried to step past their group. "Aren't you a little lost, Lily? Trash isn´t allowed in public spaces." Mandy snickered. She had always been my worst bully. The most popular girl in school and downright evil. Her mean words felt no more than pinpricks now. I wasn`t the same little girl anymore, where her words could make me cry. Her boyfriend, Tim, put his arm around her shoulders and grinned wickedly at me. "I heard she's the prince's wh*re now. Maybe the rules are different for sluts?” he said, while the others began laughing. “Shut up you fools!” Adam growled at them. "What's Big Brother going to say when he hears you're defending the little slut, huh?" Tim replied with a derogatory once over at me. The guards who had kept their distance started to come towards us hastily when one of the other guys in the gang stepped forward. Felix, was that his name? I wasn't quite sure, as we had never spoken to each other before. He reached for me and said, "Come with me Lily. The prince is busy, so you got time to show me everything you learned working on your back in the meanwhile. I don`t mind.” Everyone started laughing but was interrupted by a roar so loud it shook the walls. Without turning around, I already knew. Cassian stood behind us, in human form but with his eyes glowing in gold. He was panting and snarling with rage. Several in the group looked scared, except for Mandy, Tim and Felix, who looked nonchalant, care-free. I backed up and stood in front of Adam, afraid he would get caught in the crossfire. But I was relieved that Cassian showed up when he did. "Relax man. We were just joking around.” Tim said, looking complacent, while Mandy snickered. They didn`t have time to say anything else before Cassian reached them. He tore Tim away from Mandy and threw him across the hall. Mandy screamed at the top of her lungs as the others fled. Felix, the guy who tried to grab me, didn't get very far. Cassian yanked him so hard that the sound of his arm dislocating and his scream of pain pierced my ears. “No one touches my mate.” Cassian growled as he punched Felix so hard blood splattered all over the floor. Ouch, Poor guy. Violence wasn't for me, but not even I wanted to step between Cassian and his anger right now. Tim started to get up, but to no avail. Cassian rushed forward and gave him a roundhouse kick so hard that he flew smack into the front door, which was thrown open by the impact. He rolled down the stairs and landed in a heap on the outside. Mandy was still standing screaming hysterically. Goodness gracious! People began to gather outside, watching on in horror. Goddess, I have to do something before he kills them! I started to run after them when a pair of strong arms caught me from behind. I was terrified at first before I heard Damien's voice whisper in my ear, "Don't come between them Lily. Cassian needs to do this. The guards' mind-linked me what was being said. They need to learn their place.” “But what if he kills them?” I asked worriedly. “We're part animal, Lily. He needs to send a message. Show them that no one can ever treat you badly and think they can get away with it.” Cassian pulled Felix towards the door and threw him out. He landed on top of Tim with a heap just as he tried to get up. The two guards that had come with me and Adam held Mandy by each arm as she screamed and tossed around. What a mess and all because of me. I just wanted to disappear into a hole in the ground to be honest. As the guys tried to get off the ground, Cassian kicked one of them so hard in the stomach that he flew several feet. “Stay down if you know what`s good for you.” He growled menacing. The crowd had grown large, and I recognized Tim's mother standing further away, crying, while her mate was holding her by the shoulders. "Let this be a lesson for all of you to learn! Lily is my true mate. MINE! If any of you so much as look at her the wrong way, talk sh*t behind her back, or speak to her in a bad tone, you will have me and my wrath to deal with!" He roared through the crowd. Even though I would never wish any pain on anyone else, my heart grew three sizes for this Lycan standing out there proudly defending me. Goddess, how I loved this man. The crowd bowed in submission as the guys lay writhing on the ground. Mandy sobbed, hanging limply in the guards' arms. Cassian paced back and forth, still growling, his anger palpable. Mason stepped forward and walked past us and down the stairs. "I've had enough of bullying, hierarchy and abuse in this pack. They will spend 1 week in the dungeon as punishment for their behavior. Next time I won't be as lenient in my punishments, remember that!” Mason boomed in his alpha voice. “Guards! Take the boys to the infirmary. Mandy has a cell waiting for her in the meantime,” Mason finished saying as he turned around and walked back inside. I pulled myself out of Damien's grip and ran over to Cassian. When he turned and caught sight of me, I threw myself into his arms, breathing in his soothing scent. He lifted me up so I could wrap my legs around him as he carried me back into the packhouse, growling at anyone who got too close. “For the sake of the goddess, stop growling, Cassian.” "They need to know their place" "But they don't need to know how arousing I find your possessive sounds." I whispered in his ear, making him falter. “You will be the death of me, wildflower.” I giggled as he carried me inside. *** Nolan My anger, my despair knew no bounds. Everything was going to hell and all thanks to that damn prince. The attack on the Crescent Moon pack failed. I was too late. My little one was already gone. I found the little slut, Ava, in the dungeon. Looking anything but appealing in her smelly clothes and dirty, matted hair. She begged me to save her, to take her with me. Ugh, how could I ever have touched that? Without remorse, I tore out her heart. Her eyes widened in shock as she crumpled to the floor. Like I cared, she had meant nothing. I was back in my hotel room. Without a plan and without knowing where they had gone. I had to be quick, for the thought of her suffering made my heart bleed. If that a*shole had so much as touched her innocence, I would make sure he died in agony. I might know someone who would be able to stop that from happening though. Maybe that's where I should go. To the only one I knew who would want to destroy the prince and Lily's Matebond almost as much as I did.
