Chapter 44

1575 Words
Lily The sorrow and pain reflected in my father’s face almost made me feel sorry for him…almost. "You have to believe me, Lily, when I say that I didn't want any of this to happen. You are my only connection to Eloise, therefore you have a special place in my heart.” He pleaded. I felt uncomfortable under his intense gaze. I don't think he`d ever looked at me that long before, if he`s ever seen me at all. “You don´t have a heart.” Was all I had in me to answer. He was only my father on paper, but never in real life. He did`t deserve my loyalty or my sympathies. Still, not protecting him was taking its toll. Being harsh was not in my nature. “I have one last question before I go after my grandson. The girl, Wanda, who took care of Lily until she was 7, what happened to her? Because she didn't just leave her, did she?” Connor asked stoically, where he stood holding back all his emotions as best as he could. Corbin took a deep breath and looked embarrassed where he sat on the edge of the bed. "No, no she didn't. I was told by my beta that Lily was seen asking the neighbors for food. I went to find out what was going on, only to find Wanda gone. After an extensive fight with Dolores, she admitted that she banished Wanda from the pack with the threat of death if she returned because of her own petty jealousy. I had no contact with Lily, but I talked to Wanda almost daily about Lily's well-being. I don't know where Wanda went, neither does Dolores. She has no family members in our pack either, because her parents died on the day of the rogue attack 21 years ago as well. That's all I know.” My father confessed. I felt the tears threatening to fall. Both out of sadness and relief. Finding out that Wanda didn't leave me of her own free will was a stone in my heart that I didn't realize how big it was until it dropped. "I have heard enough about you alpha Corbin that I am expelling you from The Blood moon pack and every other pack in our country effective immediately. If I were you, I would jump on the first best flight or teach yourself how to live alone, outcast as a lone wolf among the humans.” Damien decided with a forceful voice, his expression grim as he studied my father who had slumped down in front of us. My grandfather strode out of the room without looking back. “Theo and Tristan, see to it that my orders are followed.” Damien stated before he to left. I had just turned and was about to walk out when I felt my father grab my hand. Zane and Lucien both hissed at him and he quickly retreated. "I just wanted to say that I am sorry, Lily. I'm sorry for everything. You look like a carbon copy of your mother, you know.” He uttered with an apologetic expression etched on his battered face. "I-I forgive you." I stuttered before turning and hurrying out of the room, closing the door to my past behind me. When we got outside, I broke down in Zane's arms. I cried for everything that was lost, all the bad memories and all the sorrows. I barely felt him lift me up in his arms, as he carried me to our room. He sat down on the bed while I crawled as close to him as I could get. His purring slowly soothed me as he stroked my hair. “I´m sorry” I murmured apologetically. “For what, Wildflower?” "Because I'm a complete mess?" I joked, smiling half-heartedly. "I love you even when you're a snotty mess." He joked with that sexy half smirk of his. “Hey! A lady does not have runny, snotty noses. We cry with grace.” I objected prudently. Zane snorted at me and raised his pierced eyebrow. “Pshht, and a Lady only farts rainbows, aye?” “How dare you! A lady doesn’t fart at all! And if we do it´s tiny puffs of glitter, that sounds like unicorn´s laughter and smell like rainbow, mind you! Get you fact straight, mister!” I complained with feigned indignation. He threw back his head, laughing. “If you say so little wildcat.” We were interrupted by a knock on the door. Zane gently sat me down before going to open it. In stepped my grandfather and Adam. Poor Adam looked like he had been crying as well. It wasn`t difficult to understand that this was tough for him. His whole life had been turned upside down. “We just wanted to come and talk to you guys quickly. We have decided to pack our bags and leave this place. Adam can be homeschooled while we find a new place to call home.” I felt my heart contract painfully. I just found them and now they're going to leave me? “You don't need to look so devastated Lily, I promise we will keep in touch and see each other as often as possible, okay? The reason we'll be driving around the roads for a while before settling down is because my wolf, Fionn, won't stop talking about Wanda. She's an unfinished chapter for you, pup. I want to find her for you so you two can meet again.” Those treacherous tears threatened to fall again, and I threw myself into my grandfather's arms. "Would you really do that for me?" "I have 18 years to catch up on. Finding the woman you loved like a mother is the least I can do.” "Thank you. Thank you so much.” I chanted against his chest as he stroked my hair lovingly. Pulling back I looked up at Zane who was looking at me with love in his eyes. I slipped my hand into Zane’s before looking back at Grandpa and Adam. "When are you leaving?" "In a few hours. I have neighbors of Wanda's that I want to ask some questions, after that we'll see where the road takes us.” It felt sad to have to part already, but I understood his motives and Adam`s wish to leave the pack. "I would like to send two of my Lycan warriors with you. They are good men and I want you to be safe util you are settled someplace new.” Zane said firmly. "Thank you, Your Highness. I'm glad Lily met you. Your devotion for my granddaughter is obvious for everyone to see.” Connor said as he stretched out his hand which Zane took into a firm handshake. A couple of hours later we were all gathered in the main living room. Connor had found out some information about Wanda and they had a plan and clues to follow. Damien and the twins along with a larger group of warriors would travel with Dolores and Jake to the Lycan capital at dawn tomorrow to put them on trial. Lucien would be traveling back to New York to handle the search for the other kidnapped she-wolves while Zane and I would be heading towards the Lycan capital as early as tonight for a debriefing with the minister of security. We left early because he had stops along the way he wanted to make, places he wanted to show that I was more than happy to explore. A group of warriors would accompany us as protection during the journey before we were reunited with Damien and the twins in the capital. I was more than ready to put this place behind me, and I had full confidence that Mason could turn this pack into one that thrived under his command. My farewell to Cassie was sad and tearful. I barely got a chance to talk to her since I got here, but Zane was kind enough to give her his number until he got me a phone of my own, so we could talk whenever we wanted. He even promised that she could come and visit in the capital while we were there when everything had calmed down. We both squealed and jumped up and down with excitement, making Zane roll his eyes at us. But I could see from his expression that our happiness made him happy, even if we behaved like kids on Christmas eve. My farewell to grandpa took everyone by surprise though, because when his wolf Fionn came forward to say goodbye, my eyes went from blue to green and I could feel a presence in my mind, pushing forward. My she-wolf said goodbye before my eyes went back to blue and she disappeared again. Which excited me to no end and earned me a big smile from Fionn and a jealous growl from Zane, probably because my wolf hadn't spoken to him yet. I couldn´t help but giggle at his possessivness. When all the goodbyes were said and all the hugs were given, we got into the black SUV driven by one of the warriors. I snuggled as close to Zane as I could get, excited for new adventures and experiences that awaited along the way.
