Chapter 43

Connor "Father? What are you doing here?" Corbin said questioningly as he started to get of the bed. We were almost carbon copies of each other. Perfect images. As he grew up and looked more and more like me, it was something I enjoyed. By now, I didn't even want to be associated with him. "What am I doing here, seriously?? WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK I'M DOING HERE?!” I roared at him. He had sense enough to look ashamed, at least, always something. Bruises from the fight were still visible and I have to say that Corbin looked worn out. His brown hair was matted, and his eyes were red-rimmed. But he had it coming. “I'm sorry, father, for losing our pack. I know I disappointed you and grandfather is probably turning in his grave by now. But I promise I'll get it back!” “I don´t give a rat’s ass about you losing the pack to Mason! If you hadn’t already lost the pack, I'd make sure you did. Because you don't deserve to be an alpha. You have failed your pack, you have failed your children, you have even failed the Moon Goddess!” Corbin had the nerve to look shocked, appalled by my insinuations. “Are you going to stand there and pretend like nothing happened? That you weren't the one who made your true mate take her own life? That it wasn't you who forced your only daughter to live in a storage room in the basement? HUH?!” "I didn't kill Eloise! I LOVED HER!" He screamed at me with a haunted expression on his face. What a fool. "Maybe you weren't the one who tied the noose around her neck. But you were the one who lied, manipulated and cheated on her with another woman, another woman you also marked. When a true mate cheats, it feels like your guts are being ripped out. Did you know that? Did you care how she writhed in agony when you were with that horrible woman you chose instead? She would have died in agony in the end anyway, she just chose to end her life on her own terms instead. So don't stand there and say you loved her, because you don't know what love is!” I roared at him, my wolf Fionn fighting to come forward. He had already pushed Corbin out of his heart for what he had done. I was still trying to find something good worth saving, something that reminded me of the cheerful little boy who used to ride on my back, laughing. “I was disgusted every time I had to touch Delores. But she was an alpha's daughter. With her came a pack alliance and strong offspring. I didn't sleep with her more than I had to!” He raved. “You're just like your grandfather. Power-mad and selfish. You could at least have had the decency to let Eloise go, reject her. But no, you had to torment her for your own selfish needs. When she died you didn´t even take care of your only daughter! She was abused physically and mentally by your bit*h and your offspring with a good pedigree!” "I tried to protect Lily as best as I could! Who the hell do you think you are to come storming in here after 20 years, lecturing me? I`m no longer a child in need of guidance!" He barked back at me and maybe he was right. Maybe I no longer had that right, but he sure as hell needed guidance. “You didn´t do jack sh*t to protect Lily, Adam did. But the joke's on you, right? Because you wanted such fine bloodlines, yet your bit*h couldn't produce anything but wolves with beta rank. Lily inherited all your alpha genes. Not only that, but she has also inherited her grandfather's Sigma Lycan blood. When she's fully recovered, her wolf will be amazing and surpass you all.” I said mockingly, making Corbin go into a full-blown rage. I let Fionn come forward and take over. It was time to put my son in his place… *** Zane What a motherfu*king day! Lily hurried forward in front of me, heading for her father's room upstairs. As delicious as her ass looked in those tight jeans, I didn't like her wearing herself out too much yet, not until her wolf resurfaces anyway. So, without further ado, I picked her up in my arms. She let out a startled yelp, causing me to grin at her sheepishly. My little wildcat rolled her eyes at me, definitely deserving herself a spanking later. But is it really a punishment if you like it? I chuckled to myself as I remembered how she moaned and creamed all over my hand as I spanked her shapely ass the last time. My co*k twitched at the mere memory of it. My dirty thoughts were interrupted by the noise coming from the room down the hall. Damien and Mason walked toward it with determined steps. The twins looked childishly expectant at the obvious fight that was going on inside. You could hear furniture hitting walls, growls and roars. Those were two seriously pi*sed of Alphas. Adam came running, looking wide-eyed at the door before turning his startled gaze towards us. "Go wake Lucien, kiddo. He's going to be pi*sed if we don't inform him of what's going on.” I told him, mostly to get him out of the way. The boy had been through enough, he didn´t need to see this as well. I carefully set Lily back down on the floor and positioned myself in front of her just as Damien opened the door to the Alpha suite. It looked like a fu*king hurricane had raced through the room. The curtain rod had fallen, a chair was smashed, there was a dent in the wall and the TV was cracked. Both men were in their human forms, but it was clear that it was Connor's wolf that had come forward and fought in his place. His eyes glowed black with anger, his animalistic movements clear. Connor only had some torn clothes, while Corbin looked like he needed another trip to the infirmary. Connor's movements were fluid and deadly. This was the man whose reputation I had heard of. His technique was fantastic, as he parried every punch, pinpointed every move. The twins were just starting to cheer for Connor when I was pulled back to the present by Lily's hands twisting my shirt behind me. “ENOUGH!!” Damien roared with his royal alpha voice, so powerful that even the twins shut up and bowed their heads in submission. Lily squeaked and hid behind me. The fact that she didn't stop and bend her neck in submission the same way as the twins, Henry or Mason did, made me wonder. Who was her grandfather really? Connor and Corbin had dropped to one knee in front of us, their heads down. “What is the meaning of this? Speak!” Damien demanded as he looked down at them. Connor cautiously looked up at Lily with a pained expression. "I was given permission by Lily to read her mother's suicide note. I came here to confront my son about it.” “Rise, Alpha Connor. Where is the letter now?” Damien asked as Mason and Henry walked over and pulled Corbin up and sat him on the edge of the bed, handing over a towel to wipe up the worst of the blood pouring from his broken nose. “It´s in my back pocket.” “Lily, with your permission, I would like to read the letter as well, if that's okay?” Damien said, as he turned to Lily with a thoughtful expression. She only nodded in response before Connor handed over the letter. Damien's expression oscillated between pained, angry and sad. When he was done, you could see him struggling to keep his composure, his eyes changing between his electric blue and his Lycan's gold. Damien folded the letter carefully before he handed it over to Lily. He turned back toward Corbin, chuckling darkly. It sounded ominous. Normally, Damien was the easy-going one. The one who joked and lightened the mood. Now he looked like he was out for blood, ready to kill. A wide-eyed Adam appeared behind us with a serious looking Lucien beside him. Poor boy, he had gotten his entire family ripped apart. Lily stepped out of my embrace and walked over to Adam. Corbin studied them intently as Lily slipped into Adam's arms and gave him a sisterly hug before taking his hand in hers. Adam's love for his sister was clear on his face. The sight made me happy for her. She deserved nothing but love. Corbin, on the other hand, looked dumbfounded. “Your chosen mate will be brought back to the Lycan capital for further questioning and to await her trial. Dolores has stated that your son, Jake, was involved in the crime. He, too, will be taken in for further questioning and will be excluded from the Blood Moon pack. If he is cleared of charges in court or after serving his sentence, he has the right to find a home in another pack as a warrior.” Damien stated harshly. “For what crime, your highness?” Corbin asked with worry etched on his face. “For kidnapping the princess and selling her to a criminal network specializing in supernatural trafficking.” “What?! Which princess? This is ridiculous!” Cassian snarled at his remark, earning Corbin’s attention. “I hate that bastard. Let’s rip his throat out.” Cassian barked in my head. “For once, I fully agree with you, Cas, that man is a complete a*shole.” We took two threatening steps towards him, baring our fangs. “Choose your next words carefully or they will be your last.” I growled at him, making him widened his eyes in fear at my threat. "Zane, baby, calm down. He's not worth it." I put my arm around my wildflower and nuzzled her hair to calm myself down. "Lily is Zane's true mate, she is therefore, by law, designated as a princess.” Damien explained, as Corbin looked stunned between us. “What the hell are you guys talking about?! Dolores might have disliked her, but she would never hurt her,” Corbin uttered. "How daft are you? Dolores admitted to having sold Lily to a criminal network, knowing full well what they were going to do to her. Not only that, but someone here has been trying to silver poison her for months before that. She damn near died! Where the hell did you think Lily had been for the past 2 weeks?” Connor roared at him, his wolf yet again fighting for control. Corbin appeared to be considering his options, but as the realization that the battle was lost began to set in, his shoulders slumped in defeat. “Lily surpasses both of your children in strength and rank. That's one hell of a motive for someone who has only become your Luna because of power.” Mason added. “Alpha Corbin, I have a question for you. Do you know who poisoned Lily? Dolores denies the crime and I couldn't detect any lies coming from her.” Lucien asked as he stepped forward. Corbin sighed and rubbed his eyes. “I had no idea what Dolores was planning, I swear. I would never sell my daughter, even if I was offered all the money in the world. I had no idea anyone was trying to poison her either.” "Big words from a man who didn't care about his daughter's well-being whatsoever. A father who didn't even discover that his daughter was missing.” Damien mentioned with a bored expression. “You don't have to believe me. I only care what my family thinks," Corbin assured, as he looked up pleadingly at Lily and Adam. That this motherfu*ker even had the nerve to dare. I bared my fangs at him threateningly. But my anger was quickly quelled when I felt my wildflower turn around, nuzzling her face into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her and ran a hand through her hair, holding her close. I knew her well enough by now to know that she didn't want to say anything bad about anyone, not even those who hurt her. To my and probably everyone else's shock, Adam spoke up. "I think you're weak, selfish and I'm ashamed to be related to you. From now on, Lily and Connor are the only family I have, the rest of you can rot in hell." After his little tongue-lashing, he turned on his heel and rushed out. Hmm, who knew the kid had the balls to do that? Good for him...
