Lily
Son of a monkey!! Cassian's roar echoed so loudly that everyone fell to their knees. My once so cheeky best friend was now kneeling behind me, shaking in fear. I threw myself in front of her the second Cassian broke free. Cassian was in his Lycan form, standing on his hind legs, panting. “Cassian, honey, calm down. She didn't try to take me away from you, okay? She's just trying to protect me.” I said, trying to calm him down.
"What the hell is wrong with you!? Have you lost your mind?" A tall, broad-shouldered man, with dark-blond hair and electric blue eyes that held an agitated expression came rushing towards us. The only one who wasn't kneeling.
This must be Damien, I thought to myself. Cassian gave him a terrifying growl that stopped him in his tracks. Cassian stood in a battle stance, ready to pounce on anyone who came between me and him. Time to calm the situation down.
I walked over to Cassian. I heard Damien roaring at me to stop, and a part of me wanted to obey. Maybe it was the matebond that allowed me to turn a deaf ear, I don't know. I snuggled into Cassian's arms, though he still kept his eyes fixed on everyone else, snarling at them. I stroked his fur, patted him and tried to soothe him with my actions. Finally, he wrapped me in an embrace. Inhaling my scent in deep breaths as he nuzzled me. Damien looked on in bewilderment. I could feel my face turning red, so I buried my face in Cassian´s fur, inhaling his intoxicating smell of sandalwood and leather.
"Cassian, let Zane come forward. There's work to be done. He'd never let anyone take me, I promise.” He snarled in response, causing me to roll my eyes at him and his possessiveness. “Cassian, enough. You have to learn to trust Zane at some point. Let him come forward.” I insisted, causing Cassian to whimper. I nuzzled him and gave him a quick kiss on his chest.
“It´s okay, baby.” I assured. He nuzzled me one last time before he took a step back and transformed back into his human form. Naked in all his glory, Zane stood before us. Now it was my turn to feel a possessive rage. Looking around us, everyone was still keeping their heads down. Thank goddess. Zane came over and wrapped me in his arms, nuzzling me, as Damien hurled curse words left and right. Damien pushed a pair of sweatpants between us, causing Zane to look up.
“Get dressed little brother.” Was all he said before turning around, walking away from us. My eyes followed him, causing me to catch sight of Lucien, standing in the shadows just inside the door to the packhouse. Even at this distance, I could tell he looked worn out.
"Zane." Was all I said as I gave him my most unwavering look. He sighed as he waved his hand for everyone to stand up.
“Okay, everyone can get the fu*k up. The show is over!” I gave him a sideways glance at his crudeness, but he just gave me one of his sexy smirks in return, before putting his arm around my shoulders. Cassie stood wringing her hands, shamefaced.
I tried to get out of Zane's grip to walk over to her. But he just growled and pulled me back.
His possessiveness did something to me that made me want to drag him into the nearest closet to get my way with him.
And judging by his satisfied smile, he knew exactly how he made me feel.
“Cassie, I'm so glad to see you again. I was going to tell you that Zane is my true mate. He found me." I tried to explain.
She looked shocked by my confession. Probably everyone here would be, because how could someone like me be mate with someone like him? I felt my confidence start to fail me, but Zane was quick to give me a sweet kiss and whisper words of encouragement in my ear. The shocked gasps around the crowd when he kissed me didn't escape me though.
Cassie seemed to have a hard time finding words at first, before she exclaimed, "I'm happy for you Lily. I really am. If anyone deserves to be happy it's you." I could tell that she meant it by her genuine smile, which gave me some relief.
There was still a huge crowd studying us though. It made me try to crawl as far into Zane as possible.
“Everyone! Go back to what you were doing!” Mason commanded in his newfound Alpha voice as he came marching through the front door of the packhouse. "I'll find you later Lily. And maybe we can talk?" Cassie said in a humbler tone. I nodded at her in response before she walked away just as Mason reached us.
"Nice to finally meet you, Lily. Lucien has spoken highly of you. I'd give you a welcome hug if it weren't for the fact that I don't want to lose my head to that aggressive mate of yours." Mason joked. Zane gave him a playful growl in response.
“You watch it, Mason, before I make an ass out of you.” Zane growled in a gleeful tone before he let me go and lunged at Mason. They laughed and jabbed at each other playfully, until I cleared my throat and gave them both a deadpan look.
“Boys, behave. If you two have that much excess energy, you can carry the luggage.” I said, giggling as I gave them a flirty wink.
I walked past them both, up towards the packhouse. Where Lucien was still standing waiting in the shade.
He smiled weakly at me as I approached. He spread his arms, in which I entered, giving him a warm hug.
“I am so glad you are well, Lily. If you only knew how much I worried about you both.” He confessed.
I didn't know when or how it happened, but this vampire had captured a special place in my heart. Beyond his arrogant, cold attitude, I could sense a man who would do anything for the people closest to him. And I think I might have become one of those people to him, just as he had become one of the closest people to me.
“You look tired Lucien. When was the last time you rested? How long have you been exposed to daylight?” I asked.
“Thank you for your compliment. I assure you I can handle it.” He said in his most arrogant tone, but his hand stroking my hair lovingly went against his cold words. "I'm not going to apologize for worrying about you, Lucien. Now tell me honestly, when was the last time you got any rest?" I demanded. “I'd like to know that as well.” I heard Zane say behind me. I turned and met his gaze, which expressed the same concern as I had for his friend. Lucien sighed behind me, as Zane and Mason came inside, carrying our luggage.
“We can talk about my well-being later. Right now we have more pressing concerns,” Lucien answered.
“I agree. Let's go to the conference room so we can discuss this privately.” Damien´s voice resounded behind me, causing me to turn around. He looked serious, detached. I had a feeling that this wasn't at all how he usually was. His face contained traces of laughter, but now, all laughter was erased from his face. Zane took my hand in his as we left to follow Damien.
Mason set the luggage down in the hall for the omegas to carry up, before accompanying us to the conference room.
Several men were already waiting for us inside. I recognized Cassie's father, Henry, who gave me a warm smile and a welcome home. On his right sat a pair of broad-shouldered twins. Who greeted happily as Zane walked over and took them both in a strong friendship hug. Beside them, I recognized my little brother, Adam. He looked vulnerable, sad as our eyes met.
My first instinct was to comfort him. He had never hurt me, but he wasn't nice either. He just didn't care.
He neither agreed nor objected when someone bullied me, as far as I know.
On Cassie's father's left, sat a man I had never met before. Our kind didn't age, yet this man looked old, worn.
He looked at me intently, with slumping shoulders and a broken expression. He looked familiar, but why?
Damien cleared his throat to get everyone's attention, when I heard a sob. I looked over to Adam, who was staring intently at his knees all while one of the twins patted him on the shoulder. I couldn't stop myself anymore. The boy was only sixteen, after all.
I walked up to him, squatted down and took his hands in mine. "Are you okay, Adam?" I asked, worried as I stroked his blond hair out of the way. Much to my surprise, he threw himself around my neck, hugging me for all he was worth. I felt his tears against my neck as I stroked his hair, struggling to contain my own emotions. I had never met or seen Adam like this, ever.
To say I was shocked was the understatement of the year.
Looking over Adam's shoulder, I saw Lucien holding Zane back. Zane's eyes oscillated between brown and gold.
Both Zane and Cassian knew that Adam was my brother, but I understood their suspicion and reluctance for me to be around any of my family. I pulled back, wiping Adam's cheeks. “We can talk afterwards, okay? I whispered to him. He only nodded in response. Still feeling shaken by my and Adam's reunion, I saw the unknown man stand up, looking at me intently.
"My name is Connor, Lily, and I'm your grandfather." He exclaimed while walking around the table, straight at me.
Unable to contain my shock, I raved, “Shut the front door!”
