Chapter 18

1631 Words
Nolan Last night at the auction… Everything had gone up in flames. I got so damn furious that I wanted to rip that imbacile Mark to pieces for letting my future mate, my Lily, be dragged away by that baboon. My poor little one, she must be terrified to be left alone with that Neanderthal. Not only that, but Mark had made me look stupid. I promised her that I would buy her, that I would take care of her. Now he had made me break my promise. But I will make her trust me again. I'll save her, then I'll mark her. If a bond is made, she'll love me, trust me. I tried to straighten my disheveled clothes. Goddess, how uncivilized I looked. Appalling. But the demon in me wanted her more than anything and I went crazy when I discovered she was gone. But enough of that, time to start thinking about strategies. That prince was a lone wolf. If the rumor was true, stealing her back couldn't be very complicated. The thought instantly put me in a better mood. “My Lord, what are we going to do with the rest of the auction? We no longer have a way to access the computer system and we have no backup.” Mark asked. I had completely forsaken all thoughts about the auction. Damn, my superior will not be happy about this. "Cancel the rest of the evening. Give the men our apologies. Tell them they get free drinks and a personal lap dance in our private rooms as compensation" "What are we going to do with the she-wolves?" Mark asked nervously. Couldn't that idi*t think a single thought for himself? "Leave them to me, Mark. Just make sure the customers are well taken care of and compensated." I left him in the surveillance room without looking back. Time to plan. Then it was time to take back what belongs to me. *** Lily Seeing Zane go into total possessive mode, turned me on like crazy. Thank goddess, I got him to come and sit next to me before the doctor got a whiff of my arousal. The shame would have known no bounds if that had happened. "My Lady, if you would be so kind as to describe your symptoms and when they began." Dr. Thompson asked as he sat down on the sofa opposite while taking notes on his iPad. "Please call me Lily and the symptoms started about 2-3 months ago. I don't remember exactly when. It started with stomach pains that came and went. I also noticed that I bruised easily and didn't heal as quickly as before, among other things. About a month ago I started throwing up after eating, not every time but often. I lost a lot of weight and was constantly tired and had a stomachache.” "Did you go and talk to your pack's doctor about your symptoms, Lily?" I felt myself blush. I know I have nothing to be ashamed of, but still. "Umm, well, no. I wasn't allowed to go and see a doctor in my pack.” The doctor's gaze shot up from the iPad, looking back and forth between the two of us. But without snooping, he continued. "Okay, I understood from my colleague that you two met yesterday, is that correct? Either way, I have to ask you Lily, even though I know it's a sensitive subject. Is there any possibility that you're pregnant?" I felt Zane stiffen next to me before he let out a low growl. Oh, coconuts! *** Zane The thought that Lily might be pregnant hadn't even crossed my mind. If some motherfu*ker had touched her. At the same time, it was hypocritical of me to think she hadn't slept with someone else. I slept around so much in my younger days that it was enough for a lifetime. Although I hadn't touched a woman in over 87 years, I was far from a virgin. But now that I'd met my wildflower, I regretted every single woman I'd been with whose name or face I couldn't even remember. Fu*k, maybe it was my punishment. Raising a child my mate had with someone else. However, I knew that no matter what, I would love that child as my own. Because it was a part of her. Everything that came from Lily couldn't be anything but perfect. Whether the baby was mine or not. "No, it's impossible, I'm a, uhhm, virgin. I hadn't even kissed a guy before I met Zane." s**t. Oh my goddess, Thank fu*k… I couldn't help but smile like a Cheshire cat. Damn what a hypocrite I was, but a content hypocrite non the less… "If that's not the cause, Lily, we need to get some blood work done. These symptoms are serious and, as you probably know, it's not in a werewolf's nature to be sick. To be perfectly honest, I'd like you to come back to my pack where we can monitor you." Lily's eyes widened in horror at the doctor's words. "But is it really necessary? It can't be that bad when it's been going on this long without something bigger than me throwing up happening?" "Contrary to what you think, Lily, this could be very serious. I see you have a mark around your neck. Care to tell me where it's from?" I could feel through our bond that she was scared, even though we weren't marked yet. Lily stroked her neck where the mark after the collar was, her gaze forlorn. "Doctor, what I am going to tell you now, you must swear on your life that it will not leave this room. Is that understood?" I said with a firm voice. "Of course, Your Highness. Anything discussed with me is always confidential.” I could hear the sincerity in his voice, even though I didn't like him being around my mate. "We are investigating a criminal network that abducts she-wolves. I found Lily yesterday at an auction where kidnapped women were sold. The mark around her neck is from a silver collar,” I stated. The poor doctor looked shocked. "Ohh my goddess! You're looking for the she-wolves we've heard about that have disappeared without a trace, aren't you? Uhm, I'm sorry Lily, for what you've had to go through. I will pray to the goddess that you find the missing women, your highness. How long were you held captive, Lily?” "Lily was held captive for a week," I answered for her, because Lily still looked shaken. "It means that the symptoms appeared much earlier. I already have a suspicion, but I would really like to get a blood test done right away, if that is okay with both of you? And I also want you to think carefully about whether you want to come back with me or not. If it is what I suspect, the danger is not over, and we need an antidote,” Doctor Thompson said seriously. Sh*t, is he thinking what I'm thinking? If it is, I will wipe out the entire fu*king pack she was in. I felt my blood start to boil just at the thought of it. My Lycan growled in my head and wanted to take over. No one should be able to harm our mate and get away with it alive. “What do you suspect is the matter with me, Doctor? Lily said in her sweet, innocent, voice. "I suspect that someone tried to poison you with small doses of silver over a long period of time" I fu*king knew it!! *** Lily Zane roared so loudly I wouldn't be surprised if the poor doctor went deaf. He started pacing back and forth in front of the windows. I was so shocked that I felt completely numb. I knew I wasn't popular, but someone hated me so much they tried to kill me. I could barely wrap my head around it. Before I knew it, Lucien came rushing at vampire speed. "What the hell is going on?" Lucien asked in a decidedly arrogant manner. I didn't understand how he always managed to sound so arrogantly proper in all situations. The thought made me giggle and I couldn't seem to stop. Zane stopped and looked at me as if I had gone mad, and maybe I had. "She's gone into shock," the Doctor said. That seemed to snap Zane out of whatever aggressive mode he seemed to be in. He rushed over to me with a worried look on his face. "I'm fine." Everyone looked at me like they didn't believe me. "I promise, I'm fine, really." Lucien raised an arrogant eyebrow at me, and I had to bite my lip to keep from giggling again. I must have gone into shock or was too tired or something. "I ask again; what’s going on?" Lucien said, glancing over all of us. "We suspect someone tried to poison Lily with silver. She has been nauseous and can't connect with her wolf." Zane informed him. Lucien came over and knelt in front of me. "If it's okay with both of you, I can determine that faster than a blood test." "Do it", Zane replied, I just nodded. The Doctor came and stood next to Lucien, studying what he was about to do. Lucien took my hand in his, pulled out his claws and made a small scratch on one of my fingers. He sweeped up the drop of blood that appeared and put his finger with my blood on it, in his mouth. Everyone looked at him expectantly. "I'm sorry Lily, but your blood oozes silver." And here I thought I would never let them make me cry again. So wrong I was...
