Lucien
We had been at this for hours now. Dolores was a sobbing mess. But still, her strength to withstand truly showed her alpha genes.
She had revealed that the man she contacted to get rid of Lily was none other than the famous vampire and businessman, Pierce Ledger. I had meet him at a couple of occasions, as he usually showed up to the same charity events as I attended.
He owned an international shipping company, which was in business with both humans and supernatural beings alike.
However, we still didn´t know who helped her carry Lily out of the packhouse.
Jaden was fascinating to watch. He stood behind Dolores with his hands on either side of her head, concentrating, while she cried out in pain. That was one hell of a supernatural gift to have. When he removed his hands, Dolores slumped forward from exhaustion, hanging in the chair by the chain that held her in place.
“Tell us Dolores. Tell us who helped you move Lily. Then all the pain will end.” Jaden said in his dark voice.
“I-I c-c-can´t. I ha-ave to p-protect him.” She stuttered.
"You're trying to protect your son, Jake, aren't you? He has already lost his position in this pack and will be exiled. There is nothing you can do to protect him at this point.” I confessed.
“NOOO! You cannot do that. You have no right!" She screeched. Jaden only chuckled darkly at her hysteria. Whereas I kind of felt sorry for her. She was a bad person, but at least she loved her children enough to try to protect them even if she herself had to suffer for it.
“Unfortunately, Beta Mason from the Crescent moon pack, challenged Corbin for the role of alpha and won. You knew Corbin was weak after his true mate died, so you can't be that surprised.” I told her. Dolores sobbed and chanted no to herself, clearly in denial. "Jake just did what I told him to do. He didn't know where Lily was going or what was going to happen to her after she left our pack, I swear! He helped me carry her across the border of our pack, then he left us. He never saw when they lifted her into the car and drove off. Please don´t punish him for my mistakes, he is just a boy!” She sobbed and pleaded.
"I want names and descriptions of those who took Lily." Jaden stated. Dolores didn't respond immediately. When Jaden started to raise his hands again, she yelled at him to stop. She didn´t know the names of the two men who had come to pick Lily up but gave us a description of their appearance and the number to a burner phone.
"Did you try to poison Lily with silver, Dolores? You get one chance to answer honestly because my patience is wearing thin.” Jaden growled. “W-what? No-o I didn´t.” She uttered. Jaden hissed in response and put his hands against her head again.
“NOO! I swear! I don´t know anything! I beg you!! It wasn´t me!..... it wasn´t….” She shrieked, sobbed, begged and wailed alternately. She clearly had enough, and I believed her when she said that she was telling the truth. I met Jaden's gaze which showed that he thought the same. "Thank you for your cooperation” Jaden said mockingly before we both left her prison cell.
"I'm leaving you to it while I travel to New York. If you hand over the key to your apartment, I'll be on my way.” Jaden exclaimed. “What do I owe you for this favor?” I asked.
“A favor of my choosing in return. I decide when and where.”
“I already owe you one favor since that last time, Jaden. You have yet to collect it.”
"It's not like I don't know that you can pay me in cash. I know you're a wealthy man. But you never know when you might need a favor from someone you can trust. And trust is a rare thing these days.” Jaden avowed while I agreed. Although I didn't understand how he could trust me. Jaden helped me out of a difficult situation, a long time ago, but apart from that we haven't had much to do with each other. Just some exchange of information and so on. But the vampire was said to have more powers than the rest of us, and he showed some of that tonight. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he knew who he can or cannot trust through some supernatural ability.
“I see you around, Lucien.” Jaden said before he retreated back into the shadows, sneaking through the night to disappear as quietly as he had entered.
By the time I got back to my room, night had turned into dawn. Exhaustion washed over me as I stripped off my clothes which I folded into a neat pile for the maid to take to the laundry. I stepped into the big shower, turning on the hot water and letting it stream down my chest. Washing away this night's dirt and memories. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the memories of this night that haunted me. The past came creeping up on me when I least expected it, clawing at me. In our family mansion, in difficult situations like this night or in my dreams.
I ran my hands through my hair, letting the water flow through it. Come to think of it, it wasn´t just my past that haunted my dreams, not anymore. There in my dreams, she had also appeared. Tormenting me and filling me with a longing so great that it felt like a huge weight was on my chest. I put my hands against the wall in front of me and leaned forward. Felt the hot water run down my back as I remembered her beauty. The twinkle in her blue eyes when she smiled as her waist long hair blew around her shoulders in the wind. I didn't know who she was, but I knew I had to find her and fast.
Some nights I woke up aching, longing to feel her luscious body beneath me. Other nights I woke up in a cold sweat from dreams where I saw how she was suffering, crying. Was she real? Or was she just made up by my imagination due to my longing to meet my beloved? I did not know. But before the death of my parents, I had been having the same nightmares many months before.
So I decided to trust this and pray to the goddess that I would find her in time.
Despite this night's events and my utter exhaustion, just the thought of my dream fairy had made me hard.
I sighed to myself and turned the water dispenser from hot to cold. Tonight, was not the night to rub one out.
I got out of the shower and crawled into bed in just a pair of silk pajama bottoms. The sensation of the soft bed and being able to rest my eyes for a while was a wonderful feeling indeed. If I only had my beloved to share my bed with, was the last thought that entered my mind before sleep overcame me.
I had hardly more than fallen asleep before I was awakened by a hard knock on my door.
The urge to roar one of Zane's crude lines came over me and I had to bite my tongue as I threw off the covers to go open the door.
As I looked out I saw that dawn had given way for the first rays of sunlight, but it was still ghastly early in my opinion.
I´m a vampire for goddess sake.
Another knock resounded, and when I opened the door, I was greeted by a woman I had yet to meet.
She had long black hair, olive skin, and chocolate coloured eyes. I'd say she was very beautiful if it weren't for the fact that she looked pissed. I raised an eyebrow at the seething look she gave me. “May I help you Miss..?”
“My name is Cassie, and you sure as hell can! I have asked repeatedly to get in touch with Lily and only received vague responses. She is my best friend, and I don't know where she is! I don't even know how she's doing because no one wants to answer me! Those two baboon twins just hits on me and Prince Damien doesn’t seem to know jack sh*t!” The furie raved.
Ooh bloody hell. I had gotten a female version of Zane on my hands. And here I was thinking the last 24 hours couldn’t get any worse. I pinched the bridge of my nose, fighting the oncoming headache in vain.
"Come inside. I'm not going to have this conversation in the hallway."
She threw back her hair defiantly and strolled past me into the room. "Aren't you going to get dressed?" She sassed.
"If my attire bothers you, you should have come and knocked at another time. Now say what you want to say so I can go back to sleep" I stated.
"I want to talk to Lily. Not tomorrow, not tonight. Now! And by the way, Corbin's father, Connor showed up 10 minutes ago. He's really upset, like I'm going to rip everyone to pieces kind of upset” She said with a smug smirk. Fu*king hell!
“Why the hell didn´t you wake up Damien? Where is Connor now?” I exclaimed as I rushed through my room to get dressed. "Connor is with my father right now, who is trying to explain what happened, even though he barely knows anything. I'm definitely not going to knock on Damien's door. He left with a she-wolf last night during the party and I refuse to step into that.” She said with a shrug.
As I ripped off my pants she quickly turned around, her embarrassment clear. Not so tough after all, huh? I thought as I smiled to myself. “I promise I'll help you call Lily as soon as we deal with this impending disaster, okay?” I promised as I buttoned up my black shirt at the same time as I headed for the front door. Cassie led the way through the hallway, but as we passed Damien´s room, I stopped her. "I'm just going to pull the prince out of bed. I'll be right back, please wait here." She nodded in response as I knocked on the door once before entering. I was afraid of going blind to be honest, but this couldn't wait.
Damien laid draped on his stomach across the bed, with a naked she-wolf, wearing only a thin sheet, next to him.
I really didn't miss this. Waking up with some stranger next to you that you didn't care a bit about and where you just wanted to get out of bed as soon as possible. But if he found peace in it, good for him.
I didn't want to lose a limb so I picked up a pillow that had fallen on the floor and threw it at him while hissing his name.
He opened an angry eye, glaring at me. "What the hell do you want?” he groaned.
“Do you seriously think I'd be standing here staring at your furry ass for no other reason than there's a goddamn crisis going on??"
I hissed back. “Get your royal ass dressed, this instant.” I said before I turned around and walked out of his room, expecting him to get dressed and follow. I think I heard a snarl followed by "My ass ain´t furry" behind me, but I was too tired to care.
Cassie led me down to the meeting room we'd been using to debrief in.
When she opened the door, I expected to encounter a very angry, aggressive former alpha.
What I didn't expect to find was a broken man crouched on a chair, crying with his face buried in his hands.
