The first time Malik heard his voice outside the studio… He stopped walking. It was faint. Coming from across the street. A small speaker sitting on a window ledge, music playing loud enough for half the block to hear. Dre’s beat. Malik’s voice. “…Mama see the stains, now she looking at me different…” Malik frowned slightly. “That’s—” Dre grinned beside him. “Yeah. That’s you.” Malik turned to him. “You already put it out?” Dre shrugged. “Just sent it around. Nothing crazy.” Malik looked back toward the speaker. A couple guys were nodding their heads to it.
