Samantha Type
I really, really don’t want to go to school today. It feels like a truck ran me over and I fell off a cliff. Oh my god. s**t I have a lunch thing with Ethan! I can’t skip school because I feel gross, he’s going to school and he probably feels even worse. Just get up out of bed. Get up. Out. Out of the bed. Goddamn it!
“Sammy?” A knock on my door along with my mother’s voice. She probably wants to come in but I really don’t want to get up to unlock the door. “Sammy are you up?”
“I’m not up but I’m awake.” I yell at the door.
“Sam, if you want to take a day off it’d be okay, we could go to the mall or I could let Sarah stay home and you two could hangout?” She wants me to talk about my night. I wouldn’t mind going out with Sarah. No, Sam, you have to have lunch with Ethan.
“I’ll skip if Sarah will.” I let it slip out of my mouth. Knowing I want to avoid him.
“Okay and you can use my credit card to get some things but they’ll have to be for Christmas.”
“Just go ask Sarah first.” She learned that trick from a therapist. If you get things someone, who is suicidal or depressed, things they want but not give it to them right away, the person waits for it and doesn’t do anything drastic. Unless of course a big chaotic incident happens. Then you never know if the person will stay or go. Text Ethan that you won’t be at school today because if you flat out ditch him without an excuse you don’t deserve to be his friend let alone anything else to him.
“Sarah say’s she’ll skip with you.” Ethan is going to hate me. I roll onto my side and look to my alarm clock. 8:45 A.M. I should text him now. I sit up and get out of my very warm comfy, cozy bed. Ugh I just want to sleep, all day, all week, all month. I’ll brush my teeth and everything before I text him. Prolong the situation. I unlock my door and walk to the bathroom. Stephanie is putting her hair in a ponytail, or at least she’s trying to. Stray hairs float around her face and random strands of hair not gathered into the elastic lay on her back.
“Do you want help?”
“No.”
“Are you sure? It looks like your missing a couple pieces.”
“I don’t need anyone’s help, god get off my back!” She stomps out the bathroom with her ponytail getting loose with every step.
“She’s in a ‘I’m not a child anymore’ mood today, I don’t know why.” Sarah comes and stands beside me.
“She’s going to end up coming home crying because the other girls are going to make fun of her, you know?”
“Yeah, but at least she’ll learn to appreciate our help a bit more.” She picks up her tooth brush and puts some spearmint paste on it. I never really learned to like the taste of any kind of mint. It’s just not my kind of thing. “So, we’re going to the mall?” Sarah says through a mouth full of toothpaste.
“That’s the plan.”
“You gonna drive?” she spits in the sink and looks up at me. Why would she ask that? She knows it takes time, she knows and why would she ask that?
“No.”
“Then I guess we’re biking there.”
“What?”
“I don’t feel like driving today and you have your license so I thought you could drive. Guess not.”
“Sarah.” I stare at her in the mirror and she has a small smirk on her face, "f**k you."
"Your making me skip school, I had to give you a hard time."
"I didn't make you skip with me, I said if you wanted to I would too."
"Mom said you needed me with you today and told me I had to skip."
"f*****g Alana." I finish in the bathroom and go back to my room. My phone is lit up. s**t I haven’t texted Ethan yet.
‘I just wanted to know how you were doing? -Jayden’ Oh. Okay then so, we’re going to be like friend friends and text each other casually. I can do that.
‘I’m not going to school today even though I am completely okay.’
‘Playing hooky? I didn’t know I was becoming friends with a bad girl.’ Flirty response, I can friendly flirt.
‘Oh yeah, I also go around on my bike snatching stuff from old ladies.’
‘Need someone to skip with?’ No, it’s a bad idea, if you wanted to hangout with a guy you should hangout with Ethan. Ask him if he wants to skip. He probably doesn’t. Ethan seems like the kind of kid to go to school even when he is sick. Well, I guess he really is because well… he’s sick.
“Sarah?!”
“What?”
“You don’t have to skip with me today if you don’t want to, I found someone else!”
“Okay.”
‘Are you offering to skip with me?’, I forgot to even ask this before I told Sarah. Whatever he’ll skip with me.
‘Maybe I am.’
‘If you were I would accept the offer, but only if you were actually offering.’
‘Then I am and I’ll pick you up at 9ish?’
‘Sounds like a plan Stan.’
‘Wait, I need to know where you live lol.’
‘The corner of Leah and Kettle street, it’s the turquoise house on the left.’
‘Great see you then.’
‘See ya’ f**k. I’m ditching poor Ethan again to hang out with Jayden? What is wrong with you Sam? I just won’t tell him I’m going out. Lie. Liar. Pants are going to be set on fire, I can’t lie to him. But holding some truth back isn’t lying. Okay.
‘You’re going to hate me and I’m really sorry for this but I won’t be at school today.’
Good. Yeah, that’s good enough. So, ten minutes to pick an outfit and put some makeup on? s**t. I think it’s nice out, shorts and a tee shirt with my jean jacket. Now what colours? Carbon black shorts with a Brunswick green tee shirt? Yes, perfect. s**t I got a text. Just kidding there’s two.
‘I’m almost there.’ -Jayden
‘I’m not mad cause I’m not there today either. No harm done.’ Ethan’s not going either, I wonder if he was even going to tell me that this morning. Whatever, s**t Jayden’s almost here? Okay get a face on, put your hair in a bun or ponytail or something!
