HAZEL Putting on my best cheery smile, cheery voice, cheery face, I said, “Why would you ask that? Am I not at home? This is home, right? And this is the dining room if I'm not mistaken. I have breakfast here every day. Am I not allowed to come in here?” She stops and stares at me. It feels like she’s calculating something in her head. I have no idea what she sees in my face because the only thing I’m offering her is a bright, innocent smile, but she just sighs, shakes her head, and mutters, “I’m not going to say anything. Just do whatever you want.” “Why are you acting as if I did something wrong?” I ask, widening my smile. She shakes her head again. She sets the table silently and leaves without another word. But, of course, I don’t mind. Not today. Today is my grand performance
