Chapter 5

1003 Words
"Why am I with him? Isn't it clear?" Anna leaned her head on my shoulder, her voice dripping with sweetness. "He's strong, and he keeps me well-fed!" Joey finally grasped the situation and eyed our linked arms with irritation. "Did you ditch us just to flirt with him?" Her gaze shifted to me, full of disdain. "Hans, you're shameless! Do you really think this will make me jealous? You're wrong, you f*cking piece of sh*t! I thought you were a loser before, and that hasn't changed." I was about to snap back, but Anna retorted first, "He didn't want to see you. It was my idea." "Last night, he f*cked my brains out. I've never met anyone like him. I heard you left him because he couldn't satisfy you in bed, but from what I see, Hans respected you. Maybe you just weren't that into having s*x with him." Joey glared at Anna. "You introduced yourself last night. You're a streamer, right? It's absurd. You're beautiful and sexy, but what about him? He's just an average-looking, morally bankrupt loser." She added, "He's just trash I threw away, but you're into him? It must mean you're a natural-born wh*re who's willing to have s*x with any man!" I was furious! I couldn't believe Joey would slander me this way. Not divorcing her before the cruise was my biggest mistake. Unfazed by being called a wh*re, Anna smiled playfully. "You think I'd get mad, huh? Don't tell me you are waiting for rescue." She continued, "You probably don't know this, but the cruise ship got lost here because of magnetic interference, which knocked it off course. This is a top-tier luxury ocean liner with one of the best systems in the world. For its navigation to be disrupted, the magnetic field here must be wildly distorted. The odds of a rescue team finding us are slim to none." Anna's smile widened. "Hahaha, we're never going back!" Her words caused Joey and the others' faces to pale drastically. "You're lying! You're just using this to mask your shameless behavior," Joey yelled. Anna smirked. "This isn't a lie. The captain and first mate said it themselves." I watched Joey and the others absorb the news and turned to Anna, thinking how merciless Anna was. She shattered their hope so easily. "It's impossible! This can't be true!" "Anna, you're just making this up, right?" "The rescue team will come and get us out." The several girls started breaking down, shouting at Anna in panic. The reality was too harsh for them. Anna shrugged. "Believe what you want. Why else would a money-loving streamer like me stick with a 'murderer'? He's the only man here and the best chance of survival on this island." The more Anna spoke, the more excited she became. "You must be starving, right? Last night with Hans, I had scallops, conchs, and grilled fish! I even had coconut meat and coconut water. They tasted amazing! But look at you. There's a coconut grove behind you, but you seem to have eaten nothing. Don't know how to climb trees, huh?" With that, she flashed a smug smile, glancing at them with disdain. "If you'd listened to me yesterday, you'd know that sticking with Hans is the only way to survive on this island." Finished speaking, Anna looked triumphant. She linked arms with me, prepared to leave. Joey panicked, her tone softening as she yelled, "Hans, we're still married! And you're still my husband. I want grilled fish too..." With that, Joey rushed over to me and grabbed my other arm, unwilling to let me go. She said arrogantly, "We haven't gotten a divorce yet; I'm still your wife. You have to cook for me. I want grilled fish, scallops, conchs, plus coconuts. Hans, you... you can't just leave me!" Her self-assured look made me speechless. In the past, I might have done as she said and prepared the food she wanted. But now, I realized how naive I was; Joey didn't deserve any of this from me. I looked at her coldly and saw that the more she demanded, the hungrier she seemed. She even licked her lips, eyeing me with frustration. "Why aren't you cooking yet? I want grilled fish, coconut, and everything she just mentioned!" 'Geez! How can she be so shameless, expecting me to serve her?' I asked inwardly. I replied with disdain, "You're not my wife anymore." "No, the divorce agreement was gone! I'm still your wife; we have a marriage certificate. As your wife, you should treat me better than her. Husbands should take care of their wives. Hans, go make me some good food!" Her nagging tone made me laugh with scorn. "Good food, huh?" "Are you mocking me!" Joey's face twisted with anger at my response. "Joey, how can you be so shameless? You cheated on me, so why should I care for you? We're divorced; I'm not your servant! You told them I'm a murderer and looked down on me and Anna. If you're hungry, go get your own coconuts and fish; stop expecting me to help you." "I..." Panic flared in Joey's eyes. She knew I hated her. Maybe because I'd forgiven her before, she thought I would do it again. She grabbed my arm desperately, saying, "We're still married. You still have a duty to take care of me!" She continued defending herself in a pleading voice, "No matter what, I was once your wife; we had feelings for each other. How can you just abandon me now? Where's your sense of responsibility as a man?" "Even if I had an affair, it was just a small mistake. I have done a lot for our family during our marriage, right?" she argued, blocking the path between Anna and me, refusing to let me go. I stared at Joey, then slapped her across the face. Smack! The sound was sharp and loud. Everyone around froze, shocked by what had just happened, their eyes widening in disbelief.
