"Looks like Jessica's really gone and left us here," I sighed, meeting Alice's eyes. Alice glanced up. The pit was over fifteen feet deep, too high for any easy escape. With disappointment, she said, "Unless Jessica comes back with a rope, climbing out is going to be almost impossible." I didn't respond but sat down. As the sun set, darkness enveloped us.
