“You!” Liam sneered, his finger jabbing accusingly at Jane.
Jane's cheeks flushed, and she turned to look away, trying to pretend Liam wasn’t talking to her.
The applause died down, and the room’s occupants looked around, trying to figure out who Liam was addressing.
Liam took steady strides towards Jane, his eyes fixed intently at her. Everyone watched as he approached her, the sound of his shoes hitting the ground ricocheting.
Finally next to her, he looked down at Jane, a cunning grin still on his face as he reached out and snatched her ID.
“Jane Dreame?!” He mumbled, his voice low and menacing. Turning his head, to address the room, he demanded, “Who hired her?”
Mark, Jane's boss, looked around before answering, confusion written across his face, “I…I did, Mr. West,” he stammered.
“She’s fired! Get her out of my building,” Liam said, his voice cold. He turned and walked away without batting an eye.
“What?! You can’t fire me!” Jane shrieked.
“Actually, I can,” he said, his eyes flashing with annoyance, “You, Jane Dreame have twenty minutes to evacuate my building and you’re banned from ever stepping foot into my premises.” Liam finished, his face twisted in a sneer.
Jane let out an audible gasp, her eyes wide with disbelief. Mark walked over to her side, escorting her out of the conference room with Jess following closely behind.
“What did you do?!” Mark harshly whispered at her, his face contoured in disbelief as they stepped into the elevator that would take them to their office floor.
“He’s a crazy jerk! He crashed my car and I simply repaid the favour and now he dares to fire me? It’s ridiculous!” She said, stomping her foot in undisguised rage.
“You destroyed the boss’s car?” Jess asked with raised brows.
“Well, I didn’t know that jerk was the boss!” She snapped.
Mark slapped his hands on his forehead as his frustration built up, “Get your things, I’ll try to talk to him and sort things out.”
“Oh don’t bother,” Jane replied, rolling her eyes, “ I would never want to work with that psycho anyway.”
“Watch your mouth Jane,” Mark sighed.
Jess and Jane both walked out of the elevator as they entered her office to pack up her belongings.
Few minutes later, they both walked to the entrance door and Jess waved goodbye at Jane as she walked out of the building. “I’ll call you later!” Jess yelled.
“Thank you Jess,” she replied, holding up a box filled with her belongings and documents while walking into the parking lot.
She cursed at Liam as her despise and hatred for him grew. When she reached the space she had parked, Jane looked around and realised her car was missing.
“Oh you’ve got to be f*****g kidding me!” She yelled, her frustration already at a boiling point. Liam must’ve had her car towed, and now she’d have to take the bus.
Sighing in resignation, Jane left the parking lot and walked down the busy streets, heading towards a bus station. She felt the vibration of her phone and balanced the box on her other hand to pick up her phone.
Looking at the screen, she saw it was her father and she let out a groan, “Can this day get any worse?” Jane muttered aloud.
“Jane,” her fathers voice rang in her ear immediately she answered.
“What do you want dad?” She said, her tone curt.
“You rude child, that is no way to speak to your father,” he said, the disappointment evident in his voice.
“Dad, I just got fired right now and I’m in no mood for this crap, what do you want?” She replied going straight to the point.
After a brief pause, her father continued, “Concerning your engagement, your fiancé has returned to town and his family is hosting an engagement party. I would send you the address. Be there by 7pm.” Her father instructed.
Jane let out a crazed laugh, which drew curious glances from passersby which she ignored.
“You never seem to not amaze me dad. You informed me that you sold me over to some family without my knowledge, and now you’re telling me about my engagement?” She replied with venom laced in her voice.
“Don’t be silly Jane, I have said all I need to say. Be there by 7, you know the consequences if you refuse this,” his tone cold, abruptly hanging up.
Jane stared at her phone for a few minutes before letting out a scream in the streets. Her drunken and debt laden father had signed over her life to some stranger to pay up his debt and if she refused this marriage, she was going to lose everything; her house, bank accounts, security leaving her stranded. He had given her up to some rich hot shot and Jane had never hated her irresponsible father more than this.
Tears threatened to escape from her eyes but she violently wiped it, reminding herself to stay strong. As her world crumbled around her, she vowed to take revenge on her fiancé and father. To do that, she had to remain calm and focused.
Packing up her box in her hands again, she walked towards the bus station, her face set in fierce determination.
