Chapter 4: Crisis Resurfaces

1387 Words
Humming a cheerful tune, Liu Yue walked home in high spirits. The joy of her promotion and raise made her feel like she was walking on clouds. This victory had been beautiful. Zhang Ling and Wang Qiang, the so-called "dynamic duo," were finally KO'd by her! She was planning to treat herself to a good dinner when her phone suddenly rang—it was Manager Zhao. "Liu Yue, come to my office," Manager Zhao's voice sounded serious, making Liu Yue's heart skip a beat. Was there more trouble brewing? When she arrived at the office, Manager Zhao's expression was grave as he pushed a document towards her. "This is... your medical diagnosis?" Liu Yue, confused, picked up the document. It stated, "Severe anxiety, accompanied by serious insomnia and hallucinations. Immediate cessation of work and hospitalization recommended." What? Liu Yue felt like she'd been struck by lightning. Other than occasionally being a bit absent-minded, she was in perfect health—eating well, feeling strong. Where did severe anxiety come from? This was clearly someone playing tricks on her! "Manager Zhao, this has to be fake! I'm in perfect health. Someone's trying to frame me!" Liu Yue felt more wronged than Dou E. Manager Zhao adjusted his glasses, his tone carrying a hint of doubt. "Liu Yue, I know you've been under a lot of pressure lately, but this diagnosis is from a legitimate hospital..." "Even legitimate hospitals can produce fake diagnoses!" Liu Yue stomped her foot in frustration. "I'm going to the hospital to get to the bottom of this and clear my name!" Manager Zhao wanted to say something more, but Liu Yue had already stormed out of the office, leaving him alone with the diagnosis, lost in thought. At the company entrance, Liu Yue suddenly stopped, took out her phone, and dialed a number. "Hey, help me look into Dr. Sun..." Her voice was icy, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. After hanging up, a sneer curled at Liu Yue's lips. Frame her? Too naive! She, Liu Yue, wasn't one to be messed with! At the hospital, Dr. Sun was leisurely sipping his coffee when suddenly, the office door burst open, and Liu Yue stormed in, nearly making him choke on his coffee. "Miss Liu... do you need something?" Dr. Sun tried to act calm, but his eyes were shifty. "Dr. Sun, let's not beat around the bush," Liu Yue threw the diagnosis onto the desk in front of him. "You issued this, right?" Dr. Sun wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, trying to stay calm. "Miss Liu, I don't know what you're talking about. This diagnosis was made based on your test results..." "Test results? I've never even been here for an exam!" Liu Yue stepped closer, her eyes as sharp as daggers. "Dr. Sun, you'd better tell the truth now, or you'll regret it!" Dr. Sun's face turned pale, and he stammered, unable to get a word out. Liu Yue sneered and turned to leave, leaving one last sentence echoing in the air: "Wait and see. I'll find the evidence!" Less than an hour later, Liu Yue was back at the company, holding a USB drive. It contained the transfer records and call recordings of Dr. Sun accepting bribes—solid evidence! She walked straight to Manager Zhao's office, ready to expose this conspiracy. However, when she opened the door, she found that besides Manager Zhao, there was another person present—Secretary Zhou. Secretary Zhou was anxiously talking to Manager Zhao, and when she saw Liu Yue enter, her face immediately grew uneasy. "Manager Zhao, I have something important to report..." Liu Yue began, but Secretary Zhou cut her off, saying, "Manager Zhao, Mr. Li just called—there's an emergency that needs your immediate attention!" Liu Yue raised an eyebrow, a cold smile tugging at her lips. Such a clumsy lie—did they really take her for a fool? "Mr. Li? How convenient. Sounds like a distraction." She didn't buy it for a second, pushing past Secretary Zhou and heading straight to the conference room. In the conference room, the company's higher-ups were in the middle of a meeting, with Manager Zhao seated at the head, frowning. Liu Yue's sudden entry left everyone stunned. Secretary Zhou's face turned pale, and she hurried in, trying to pull Liu Yue away. "Liu Yue! What are you doing? We're in the middle of a meeting!" "A meeting? What could be more important than my reputation?" Liu Yue ignored Secretary Zhou's protests, marching up to Manager Zhao and slamming the USB drive onto the table. "Manager Zhao, I think you need to see this." Secretary Zhou panicked, quickly saying, "Manager Zhao, don't listen to her nonsense. She's just trying to dodge responsibility!" Liu Yue sneered. "Dodge responsibility? Who's really dodging responsibility here? This USB drive contains the transfer records and call recordings of Dr. Sun accepting bribes, where he admits someone instructed him to frame me for being ill! And that person," Liu Yue's gaze was sharp as a knife as she looked directly at Secretary Zhou, "I think Secretary Zhou knows very well who it is, right?" Secretary Zhou's face turned ghostly pale, her lips trembling, unable to say anything. Manager Zhao's expression grew serious as he took the USB drive and inserted it into the computer. What he saw shocked him. He looked up at Secretary Zhou, his eyes filled with disappointment and anger. "Secretary Zhou, do you have anything to say for yourself?" Secretary Zhou opened her mouth, but nothing came out. With the evidence so damning, she had nothing left to say. Liu Yue watched all of this unfold, a cold smile playing on her lips. They tried to frame her? Not a chance! She, Liu Yue, was not to be trifled with! Manager Zhao took a deep breath and looked at Liu Yue, his voice carrying a hint of apology. "Liu Yue, this matter is the company's fault. I will make sure you get justice." Liu Yue nodded, about to speak when the conference room door opened again, and in walked a man in a suit—it was Mr. Li. He looked at Liu Yue, his eyes dark and malicious, a sneer playing at his lips. "It seems my plan failed..." Mr. Li's voice dripped with sarcasm. "It seems I underestimated Miss Liu's abilities. But the game has only just begun." He paused, his gaze sweeping across everyone present before finally resting on Liu Yue, as if a hunter eyeing his prey. "Miss Liu, don't celebrate too early. What goes around comes around—we'll meet again soon." With that, he turned and left, leaving behind a lingering sense of foreboding. Liu Yue watched Mr. Li leave, her heart full of disdain. That's it? He thinks he can fight her? He was still too green! Whatever came her way, she would handle it. She was afraid of no one. She turned to Manager Zhao, her tone firm. "Manager Zhao, the project can't be delayed. I need to get back to work." Manager Zhao quickly nodded, his face full of regret. "Liu Yue, the company owes you an apology for this incident. I will fully investigate this matter and make sure you get a satisfactory answer. As for the project, rest assured—I will fully support your work." Liu Yue smiled slightly, picked up the files on the table, and left the conference room. Her steps were steady, her eyes filled with confidence. This battle—she had won! However, as she reached the company entrance, two burly security guards blocked her path. "Miss Liu, you can't enter," one of the guards said sternly. Liu Yue frowned, a sense of unease rising in her heart. "Why not?" "No reason. It's Mr. Li's order," the other guard added, his tone carrying a hint of mockery. Liu Yue instantly understood—this was Mr. Li's new scheme! She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her anger, a cold smile playing on her lips. "Mr. Li? Who does he think he is? I am an employee of this company. On what grounds am I not allowed in?" The guards exchanged glances, and one of them pulled out a walkie-talkie, speaking coldly. "Calling headquarters, calling headquarters. Target has been spotted..."
