Scarlet The car ride back was quiet. Not the kind of silence that was heavy with awkwardness, but the kind that was thick with unspoken thoughts. I sat in the passenger seat, my fingers idly running over the worn cover of the book in my lap. The weight of it pressed against me, not just physically but mentally. I couldn’t stop thinking about what Evelyn had told me. About the Eterna. About me. It didn’t make sense. And yet, deep down, something clicked. Like a puzzle piece I didn’t even know was missing, it had finally snapped into place. I turned my head slightly to glance at Ronan. His hands were firm on the wheel, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. He hadn’t said much since we got in the car, but his grip on the steering wheel was a little tighter than usual. He was thinking, too.
