2. JANE

664 Words
Sixth Street is huge. Really huge. And moving here has been the first good thing my mom has done since forever. The school is even bigger than I thought, bigger than it was when I came for the tour. Yes! Sixth high needs to be toured like a museum else, there's a chance you'd be on the other side of the school, lost and missing all the important stuff. If I thought getting up from bed was difficult, then finding a parking spot in this massive compound is even crazier. After twenty minutes of going round and round, I find a place and use it immediately before someone else becomes smarter than I. I hop off and my jaws drop. There are hundreds of people at the entrance to the building and people are in small clusters, talking and laughing. I make my way to the hallway before realizing I needed my school map to find my way. I was given one on one of the two tours here. Immediately, I find an empty space and squat there, searching for my map. What? No. God please, no! I couldn't have forgotten my map. I can't believe myself right now, I'm lost already before the first class. What a first day! All my hopes of a fresh start starts to diminish right before my eyes. Maybe it's a sign that I'm not wanted here too. Maybe I should leave the school and resume tomorrow with the map. But a lot of strings were pulled before I got admitted into the school's final year class. And I can't afford to ruin that for myself. "Jane?" someone calls and I freeze. I knew it. They know me here too. All I dreamt of was a fresh start. And now... "Yes, it's you" Of course it's me. Who else could it be? it's who you're thinking. I turn my head slowly to see the one who came after me, to make sure I remain miserable. And she's right there, smiling broadly, her blonde hair packed up, revealing her elegant face and the few stray curls that escaped fell beautifully at the sides of her face. it's her. My best friend in the world. Jennifer Kelsey. "Oh my God!" she exclaimed and wrapped her thin arms round me, trust me, even though those arms are thin, they sure can choke. Her hugs are always choking, just the way I remembered. And it required a lot of coughing before she realizes what she's doing. it's not a bad thing. she's just a happy person. She pulls back to look me over and I do the same. she's in a mini leather skirt and a red top that matches the colour of her lipstick. "What are you doing here?" Before I could answer, the siren blasts and I cover my ears. I heard about the obnoxious siren but I didn't imagine it was this loud. "You'll get used to it" she chuckles and claps her hands, the way she used to when we were kids. "Now, back to the question. What are you doing here?" "I'm resuming today and I can't find my map." "Oh my goodness. I'm so happy. But don't ever tell anyone about that map, you'll never hear the end of it. They'll tease you forever" "oh" was the only thing I could mutter and she proceeds to tell me everything I need to know, all the parts that was left out in the touring. After her thorough explanation, I know the people to avoid. Chloe spat on a junior student for bumping into her so I should just try as much as possible to avoid her, Klein was found making out with a teacher, Geraldine dates the gardener and everyone knows about it, the school has a gistlovers club, headed by Jennifer and there's more to say but the classes are starting. Maybe it wasn't a really bad idea to come here after all. I feel... protected.
