Tinkling music carried under the sounds of the crowd, like the glittering buildings around them were all part of a giant music box. The shortest building on the main street was tall enough to peer over the wall, and some reached so high, Maggie couldn’t begin to guess their height.
The buildings hadn’t been built of brick or stone either. They were all constructed of metal. One shaped like a unicorn horn seemed like it had swirled seamlessly up from the ground, its striations twisting as the tower grew. Another had folds and angles that glinted in the light of the setting sun, as though a giant had created the largest piece of origami of all time.
