Chapter Seventeen Faith’s eyes snapped open, her heart lurching at being startled. Lying on the mattress plopped in the middle of her bedroom floor, she raised herself to her elbows, looking around the sparse space as she listened, trying to figure out what had awoken her with such a start. The amount of sunlight shining in through the many windows in the large master bedroom alluded to the fact that it must be at least eight or so in the morning. She should be alone in the house. She thought perhaps she’d dreamt it until, with a gasp, she shot up into a sitting position when she heard a thud from downstairs followed by soft cursing. Eyes wide, she slowly pushed the sheet and blanket off her bare legs and feet, revealing the mesh shorts she slept in as well as the tank top that covered
