Raine opened her eyes still dazed by the kiss, smiled, and leaned up for more but he stopped her “Uh uh, that was a first date kiss, you shouldn’t rush into more Unless you put out on a first date, oh wait…” She rolled her eyes at the joke “Ha ha… very funny” *Flashback over* After the awkward meet up and intense conversation with his brother on her first day, Christian has been nothing but an ass ever since. I mean Lorraine understands her job and the workload that comes with managing both personal and family companies but what she didn’t understand was why he was being a total ass about everything she does. This is a terrible copy of the minutes of the last meeting Lorraine, why are there so many typos and why is it incomplete?? You were meant to welcome the chief of staff not fall on your face! How despicable Why am I seeing the SPC proposal and Landings waiver in one file? I expect you to be better at this by now And the torture goes on and on for the entire four months she’s been here Trying to impress Christian Wilde is like extending your hand to a wild lion and petting it. You’re gonna get bit. And it took everything in her not to bite back at her boss. Well, not completely. She has argued a little bit sometimes when her patience starts to snap a little bit but not enough to get fired for it apparently. What was his problem anyway? For an assistant, she was trying her hardest and improving every day At least that’s what she felt but Christian clearly felt different about that. It felt like his hatred for her ran deeper than that and luckily for him, her hatred for him was fueling too. “Why can’t you just quit” Her friend Beth asked while sipping her coffee and listening to Raine rant. “I can’t..” looking a little downcast, twirling her own coffee that was already warm. “Besides, I’m not gonna give him that satisfaction” “I’m not surprised, you are someone that doesn’t usually gives up when set on something” She smiled cause it was true. Pete and her Uncle Joe always said her tenacity was something they always admired and right now, her drive to get through this ran deeper than bills. That, and showing Mr Wilde that she’s not someone who runs when the going gets tough. Only she was starting to worry a little bit, even though she was his assistant, Mr Wilde still keeps her at arms length. She barely sticks around in his office long enough, stay in very important meetings, never wants her inputs or lets her do oversee some stuffs on her own. Something was up and she needed to know. She wouldn’t be able to move forward if he doesn’t trust her enough to do her work “Earth to Rainee.., you’re barely here anymore” Beth pouts and she apologizes to her close friend since sophomore year in College. “I’m sorry Beth, I forgot how much how work I have left” “It’s okay, I have to go anyways, we have to do this again or at least a girl’s night one of these days” “One of these days I promise” She hugs her goodbye, keeping her promise to heart and then sits down to call the only family she has left and cherishes with everything she has “Hey Uncle Joe” “Hey Peanut, How’s my baby girl doing?” Her heart warms at his voice, reminding her how much she misses him “ I’m good Uncle, I just thought I’d check in on you, see how you’re doing” “ Everything alright Peanut?” It took everything in her not to dump her frustrations on him “Yeah yeah…I’m okay, just work stuff” taking a sip of her now cold coffee and she cringes “No progress on our little project is there?” He asked warily “No Uncle, I can’t seem to get anything useful” “ You know you don’t have to do this, it’s too dangerous, it..” “Uncle..I’m doing this” she cuts him off “Whether you like it or not, I’m doing this for me And for them” He sighs heavily in defeat “You know I’m always there for you, even now” “Thanks Uncle..crap I gotta go, I’ll call you later”. She hurried off preparing herself mentally for another scolding from the big bad wolf after checking her watch and realizing how much time she spent on her lunch break She just had to be late.. Nearing the Wilde industries building, she still couldn’t get over the awe of this place that had over sixty floors with a modern feel to it. The employees were as nice as they could be without shaking in their boots when the boss was near and each floor were lined with glass walls and monitors and people actually enjoying their jobs knowing they earned being where they were now But unfortunately she couldn’t feel the fairy dust on her skin, because she was too busy trying to survive her life as she knew it. She ran as fast as she could to the conference room when the elevators hit and the minute she opened the doors, she could feel everyone’s eyes as they stopped talking but her eyes were locked onto the ones filled with fury “You’re late” “I..” “Sit down” He cut her off when she started to explain and she made her way over to a seat not far from his and listened as they continued their conversation “As I was saying, The profits and revenue gained just in three years after launching with the Wilde industries being a part of your winery would be more than you expected due to our socio-political status in the country..” She watched as Christian took over the attention in the room His velvety but strict voice filling the entire space, his eyes never straying making sure their attention is on him and his fingers gesturing gracefully as he spoke with confidence, she couldn’t take her eyes off even if she tried considering the fact that she was supposed to be jotting down the minutes of the meeting. Suddenly the man sitting at the top right of the table, the owner of the deal they were trying to pitch to spoke “Mr Wilde, your family franchise has a way of taking over companies and making it yours, both struggling and successful, like stealing the main candy from the manufacturer. How can I trust that we’ll just be partners?” “ I assure you sir, my work is different, I don’t do things halfway or tell you half truths. I get work done and have done that for years. This is a new era for this company and things have been changing around here” He just stared at Mr Wilde in deep thought and then turned to her “And what about you?” The pin drop silence certainly didn’t help as Raine tried to catch her breath “I..I’m sorry?” “What do you think of the deal, do you think I should take it?” He looked at her curiously waiting for her answer Oh God, please help.. Her eyes darted briefly to Christian before speaking “Well.. there is without any bias no better deal, apart from the social awareness this would bring to your plant, Wilde Industries prides on their hard work and honor so no matter the doubts you have, you can be assured you get what you ask for” “Even with the scandals we’ve heard about?” He asked “I won’t ask you to disregard them sir, but research also shows that our work rate and results are higher than that of the alleged scandals and since it’s Mr Wilde that is personally overseeing the situation, I’m sure you’re in good hands” Her voice steady even though she was shaking in her boots. He looked impressed for a little bit, nodded and then turned to Mr Wilde to finish the conversation before she could breathe properly. While everyone stood up to leave, He shook Christian’s hand and said something to him before he smiled at Raine and then left. She was grateful that the meeting was over while packing up the files before she heard “Good job” She turned abruptly facing the owner of the voice, not even sure she heard correctly, she responded meekly “Thank you” and then continued what she was doing “I want those minutes on my table immediately, I’ve got a lot of work to do” And then the frustrations from this morning came flooding in from nowhere “I know what to do” she muttered He stopped in his tracks and turned, his jaw locked tight “Excuse me?” She gritted her teeth to stop her from blowing up “Nothing sir and I can’t submit the minutes immediately, I need some time to go through the recordings since I couldn’t make it in the beginning” “Maybe if you weren’t late, you would’ve done so on time I need it in 20 minutes” He turned to leave again “Maybe if you didn’t boss me around so much, I wouldn’t be late, you ass” He turned around slowly and she knew she was dead with the way he was fuming silently She couldn’t help it. She was frustrated and the words just came out and now she was gonna pay for it and she had nowhere to run to. He took slow steps and she felt cornered even when he was still a few feet away from her “Tell me Miss Elsen, do you have any prior experience to being an assistant?” “No” “And who do you work for?” “You” She replied with fear and residual annoyance “Well..” He walked towards her like an animal stalking its prey, stopping just a breath away from her and stared down at all of her five foot nothingness. All she could think about was wanting to tiptoe and his sinful lips would be on hers “You may not have read the contract clause you signed when you were hired so I’ll remind you just once. For the next two years Miss Elsen , you belong to me and you are mine to do as I please. I am your Boss so I’d be careful how and who you mouth off that pretty little lips of yours to” And then just like that..he left Leaving her with her body still tingling from how close he was, wondering for the next five minutes, what the hell just happened. She avoided eye contact for the rest of the day, drowning in her work for the rest of the day to keep her thoughts from wondering Even as she walked up the stairs to her apartment and opened the door, chanting He’s my boss He’s my boss He’s my bo.. “Hey babe, I made dinner ” she got a kiss on her cheek as she suddenly remembered she had a boyfriend she was living with
