Chapter 9The handful of hours that Alec spent with Em as he led her back to his home were pleasant, and he hoped that Arnath would come to like her, too. But as soon as he introduced Em to his changeling brother, he realized the magnitude of his mistake. He sighed in aggravation as he saw Arnath’s eyes light up at the sight of Em. “Can you help her, brother?” The merman slithered out of the water to sit beside him, his jet black shark tail glistening in the waning daylight as he inspected their new guest. “Perhaps you can. Have you checked to see if she is your soulmate?” Alec blushed. “No, Em is not my soulmate.” “If such a thing as soulmates exist, mine will be a woman,” Em replied hotly. Alec’s eyes widened in reaction to her confident and unrepentant confession. Arnath laughed.
