Chapter 11Another score of years passed, and Em’s visits became less frequent. Alec looked forward to her visits, learning about the different people and elves she encountered, but each visit brought more disappointment, for she always returned alone. When the last of his youth waned, Alec tucked his faded white wings around himself and prepared to hibernate a final time. Cursing his lost youth and for failing his family, he gave a final sigh and allowed his coeval tree’s roots to absorb him.
