Final Chapter “Dad Mom”

567 Words
Morning sunlight poured softly into the room. Daniel woke up slowly with Lucy still asleep on his chest. Lois was curled against Vivian now, while Lorraine had somehow rolled halfway upside down during the night. Daniel smiled quietly. For the first time in days… Everything felt right again. Then Lorraine opened one sleepy eye. She blinked at Vivian. Then blinked again dramatically. “…Daddy?” Daniel looked over. “Yeah?” Lorraine sat up slowly and pointed. “When did Mommy appear?” Daniel burst out laughing. “She didn’t appear.” “Yes she did,” Lorraine insisted seriously. “She wasn’t here last night and now she’s here. That’s magic.” Vivian laughed softly beside them. Daniel nodded thoughtfully. “Yeah, your mommy flew in through the air like Santa Claus.” Lorraine gasped. “I KNEW IT.” Lois finally woke up too and immediately launched herself at Vivian. “MOMMY!” Vivian laughed as both girls attacked her with hugs. Lucy woke up seconds later and made tiny baby noises from Daniel’s chest. The room instantly became loud again. But this time? Daniel didn’t mind it. Not even a little. Vivian looked over at him smiling. “What?” Daniel just stared at her lovingly for a second. Then suddenly— He grabbed her dramatically and kissed her. “EW!” both girls screamed immediately. “That’s gross!” Daniel looked offended. “Gross? Excuse me? This is romance.” “Noooo!” Lorraine cried while covering her eyes dramatically. Daniel smirked mischievously. “Oh, you think THAT’S gross?” Then he kissed Vivian again. Longer this time. “EWWWWWW!” Lois nearly rolled off the bed screaming. “STOP IT!” “You’re traumatizing your children!” Vivian laughed. Daniel grinned proudly. “Good. Builds character.” The girls kept squirming dramatically while Lucy stared at everyone in confusion. Then Daniel wrapped one arm around Vivian and looked at his daughters. “You know something?” he said softly. “What?” Lois asked suspiciously. “Your mommy is the strongest person in this house.” Vivian looked at him surprised. Daniel smiled gently at her. “I didn’t understand that before.” The room became quieter. “I thought going to work was the hardest thing in the world.” He shook his head slightly. “But taking care of this family every single day? Loving everybody all the time? Being patient when everyone’s tired and loud and emotional?” He looked at Vivian with nothing but love in his eyes now. “That’s real strength.” Vivian’s eyes watered slightly. Daniel laughed softly. “Honestly? I survived three days and nearly lost my mind.” The girls giggled. “And your mommy does it every day without quitting.” Vivian leaned against him smiling. “Well…” she teased softly. “Mr. Superman survived.” “Barely.” Everybody laughed. Then Lucy suddenly sneezed loudly. Silence. Then the whole room burst into laughter again. And there, in the middle of messy blankets, sleepy kids, and a chaotic little family… Daniel finally understood something simple: Home was never the clean house. Or the perfect schedule. Or the fancy job. Home was this. Vivian’s laugh. Lois’ endless questions. Lorraine’s drama. Lucy’s tiny sleepy noises. Chaos. Love. Family. And honestly? Daniel wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. The End ❤️
