Chapter 3

Kris POV

I kept walking, going anywhere my legs led me. I got deeper and deeper into the forest, I suddenly became scared when I realized where I was. I turned back, but I couldn't remember my way back, I was lost. I saw a flash of light and decided to follow it.

I walked in its direction, I could faintly see a figure of a man.”Please sir help me, I'm lost, I can't find my way to the main street” I said, shuttered in fear. “ Come closer boy and see what my bullet killed a wild wolf,” he said, pointing his torch to an injured wolf. My vision became blurred, and I started panting, I was afraid of something I couldn't say, but I felt it. The red eyes of the wolf scared me, but I pitied it.” Why did you hurt her? Who gave you the right?!” I heard myself say. “Ah!! so, it's a female wolf, I didn't know. Kid, if I didn't hurt it, I would've been dead by now. I shoot it as a means of self-defense, okay? Kid, kid, are you ok?” I heard the man calling me, but I was too weak to reply.``What difference does it make? You will still die now eventually…"

“ AHHHHHHH!!!!” I opened my eyes, sweating profusely and breathing heavily, “are you feeling better?” Daisy asked me. I sat up and looked around. This couldn't be my room. I saw Daisy's pictures on the wall, “Ahhh!! It's her room, but why am I here?

“You look so handsome when you're asleep” Rita, Daisy's friend said. I looked at her irritatedly “Sorry” she apologized, probably because of the way I looked at her. “Daisy did a poor job in choosing her friends”, James, a short, fat boy with a low haircut, flat nose, big eyes, and big mouth said.

Rita is a chubby girl with a fat face, big red cheeks, slim long eyes, a small nose, and lips which she always painted red . At first thought, one would think that she had just drank blood.

"I'm fine, what happened? “ I asked no one in particular. “you don't remember?” Adrian asked me, I tried recalling, but nothing came to me. I could only remember when I left Daisy's house. “I remember leaving…" I said quietly. “Well, you left suddenly, and I followed you because it was kind of strange. I lost you for some time, but later found you on the floor, beside a food trunk. So, I carried you back here since it was close by. You look heavy but surprisingly, you're light, don't you eat at all?” Adrian asked, almost laughing.

"Thanks then, it's late already we should go,” I said to Adrian, he raised his eyebrows “Since when were WE close? You go, I'm staying a bit longer,” he said. I stood up filled with strength, " let me see you off” Daisy said. I didn't say anything because if I should refuse, she wouldn't insist. We walked outside the house together. She didn't say anything “Your gown is pretty,” I said not looking at her

“Thanks” she replied instantly, too quickly. “Ah, I didn't see your parents,” I said, just realizing it. “They're still at work” she answered, looking at the sky and smiling “You like the moon or the stars?, they are so many,” I said, looking at the sky too.” the moon is pretty, and the stars too…do you wish for anything?” She asked, “Wishes? No, that's not my thing, it's kind of too childish. But I used to years back” I said, trying to remember if I did.

“What are you guys doing?” We heard from behind, “Ah! You scared me” Daisy said, turning around, it was Adrian. He certainly knows how to butt in and ruin the mood. “Gosh, the mood was so nice, only if he hadn't come.” “Make sure you come to school tomorrow, you should get going, the road will be so lonely,” Adrian said to Daisy. “Okay, bye then,” she said, smiling as she waved at him. We both watch her go before going our separate ways.

I got home late, and Mom was going to make a fuss. I walked hurriedly checking my watch, and just then I noticed a c***k on the bead I wore in my hand. A brown rustic bead I always wear, but that doesn't matter now. I opened the door and entered.

“Good evening Mom,” I said politely.”What's the matter with you? What's the time, huh? And you left Tom in the school too, huh?" Mom shouted angrily. “I didn't see him either! And he is old enough to come home himself” I shouted back angrily.

“What if something had happened to him, Kris? And for goodness’ sake, where have you been? School closed by six, and you're home after nine? She shouted even louder this time. I, too, flared up and shouted back at her. Her nagging just annoyed me, even more, today than ever, "Let me be Mom! It's my damn life, not yours! Just live your life and let me live mine!!!” I thundered. But immediately regretted it, I looked at her and walked upstairs.

Dad came back so drunk. I could hear them arguing about his girlfriend, which he claims that it's legal and appropriate for him to have. Mom left the house angrily, but no worries, she'll be back in two days at most.

I got to school early the next day, I met Eve, and we discussed the clubhouse we would be going to today. The others came later and class started, Daisy came today.

Daisy POV

I listened as Mr. Rogers taught us Math, and my eyes moved to where Kris sat. He was asleep as usual. I wondered what was wrong with him. His grades are so poor, and he seems fine about it. Perhaps he doesn't intend to go to university. I turned to Adrian who was sitting at the front, focused on the teacher. He is the top 1 student in our class before Drake, then me…then Eve. Classes were over, and we all arranged our things, so we could go home.

Beep, beep, I received a text "It's me, Kris, will you come to the party tonight, at Kert clubhouse? You should come, we can go together” I read his text. “pfft, what does he take me for? I won't fall for his trap. Kris, a playboy and a ruthless one at that, I felt so bad for the girls he rejected coldly in public. It was so embarrassing.”No, thank you” I texted him back. Just then Adrian came to me, “You will be going to the party right? We can go together, I'll call you” he said, leaving and waving at me.” I won't miss it” I said, already thinking of what I'll would wear.

I got home excitedly, still thinking of what to wear. It took me hours before I found what to wear. Mom is still in the hospital so I can go, Dad is with her. I waited for Adrian's call, but it came so late.

We got to the club, but there was a commotion inside. We walked inside to see what was happening. Someone flew in our direction and fell, bleeding. I recognized the face, “James!!”I shouted, surprised. I look up, what the hell??. “Kris,” I said surprised.
