Chapter 5

"Hey, Babe!" Alex shouted as he ran towards his girlfriend. He hugged her, making it seem like they were the only ones in the airport's arrival hall, ignoring the people around them as their lips met. "Did you miss me?" Alex teasingly asked Vionne. The girl's cheeks slightly turned red because what her boyfriend said was true. She didn't just miss his presence; she missed his warm embrace and kisses that she had gotten used to since they started dating. "Yes," she softly replied, hiding her face in his strong chest. "Let's go, I have good news regarding my business trip and about our marriage," he said with a smile, taking her hand and they started walking out, hand in hand. Vionne couldn't contain her overflowing happiness. As their wedding day approached, she felt her dreams coming true more and more. When they reached the parked car, it automatically unlocked. Alex helped her get in and she sat down. She was excited, expecting that they would stay at a hotel or maybe go to his house, but Vionne's smile faded when he spoke to the driver. "To the company." Vionne didn't show her disappointment. She had prepared herself. She had almost bathed in perfume and was sure her boyfriend would be drawn to her. Work again. Vionne whispered to herself as she pouted. She didn't notice that her boyfriend was looking at her and he grinned. He quickly took her hand and squeezed it. "Hey, I just need something to bring to the office. So, stay here then I'll go up by myself, okay?" he said, caressing her soft cheek. "Okay," Vionne replied affectionately, biting her lip slightly. Her eyes sparkled and she suddenly felt excited again. She thought she wouldn't have her boyfriend all to herself. As Alex got out of the car, he leaned back in through the window and reached for her face, kissing her passionately. The driver's face almost turned red as he witnessed the couple's passionate kiss in the rearview mirror. Vionne held her breath as her boyfriend let her go and left her in the car. "I'll be right back in 10 minutes." Vionne leaned her head on the headrest with her eyes closed. She was excited to try on her wedding gown, and she couldn’t wait to wear it on her wedding day. Last week, when Alex was not around, Mrs. Mondragon took her to a famous wedding gown designer. However, the gown would not be sewn here in Chicago. She would only see the dress on the day of their wedding in Milan. Days passed quickly, and Vionne's much-awaited day arrived. Her parents were almost in tears. They were happy to meet their future son-in-law and the kind mother-in-law. Since Mrs. Mondragon met Vionne's parents, she immediately bought a house for the girl's family. A bungalow with a beautiful garden, the parents chose a location near Chicago. They just wanted to plant vegetables and have a vegetable business at the market. Mrs. Mondragon fulfilled all of this, even buying a stall at the market and turning the neighboring land they purchased into a vegetable farm. Vionne and her parents were overjoyed. Their dream was simple, but Mrs. Mondragon gave them everything. "Mom, thank you. Thank you for taking care of my parents," Vionne said. "Oh, dear. It was nothing. You know, dear, all I want is to see my grandchildren playing around with us," she said with a smile, momentarily stopping Vionne's heart. Grandchildren? Does she want grandchildren? I want children too, but how? Nothing has happened between Alex and me yet. "I know you can give me a dozen grandchildren, right Vionne?" “Yes, mom,” she answered confidently. The days flew by, and everything was ready for the upcoming wedding. Vionne and her parents met the Mondragon clan. They were not snobbish or pretentious. On the day of their wedding, she also mingled with Alex's high-class relatives. As she was looking for Alex, she passed by his cousins talking at the table. They were already married and had children. "Hey, Vionne. Where are you going?" Nadine asked. "I am looking for Alex. I want to change my clothes and ask for his help," she replied, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Okay, go ahead then." As Vionne was about to walk away, she heard Nadine ask Andrea something. "Why didn't I see Aldrin? How long will he hide? Alex didn't invite him, right?" As Vionne held up her nightgown with both hands, she thought carefully about who Aldrin was. Vionne briefly left the reception; she also needed to use the restroom, so she hurried to the elevator. She pressed the button for the 35th floor, where their things were. When the elevator doors opened, she saw a man and a woman kissing. Vionne's eyes widened when she recognized the man from behind. She stood still in the hallway, watching the two of them, who seemed oblivious to her presence. She knew it was Alex by his body shape, haircut, and even his clothes. Her heart pounded, and she was about to confront them when the door in front of her opened. "Hey, what are you standing there? Come here," Alex pulled her into the room. "A-Alex!" "I can't believe my wifey knows how to be a voyeur," Alex joked. "Oh no, I was just surprised by them. By the way, I need to use the restroom, what took you so long?" "Go to the toilet first, then let me explain, okay?" Vionne knew that Alex had prepared their things for their upcoming trip to Greece, where they would spend their honeymoon. She was about to enter the bathroom when she noticed the small briefcase she had once seen in Alex's room. Though curious, she went into the bathroom and tried to think about what might be inside. After she was done, she quickly returned to the room, but the briefcase was no longer there. "Are you ready?" Alex asked her after changing into comfortable clothes for the trip. "Yes!" "Let's head down and bid farewell to the guests and family." "What about my parents?" she asked, worried. "Don't worry, Mom will take care of them," he assured her, kissing her on the head. During the trip, Vionne couldn't shake off thoughts about the briefcase. She also couldn't stop thinking about the man she saw who looked almost like Alex, especially in physique. She was curious and wanted to know who Aldrin was, as mentioned by Alex's cousins, and why he wasn't invited to their wedding. "A-Alex, may I ask you something?" "Yeah, Babe. What is it?" "What's with that briefcase I saw once in your room and I saw in the hotel room?" Vionne asked seriously, now that she was his wife. She had the right to know things involving her husband. "Hmm, excited? Later, you will know," he replied with a smile, pulling her into a tight embrace.
