I felt cold, so cold, my body was practically seizing in response. I opened my eyes. It was just pure darkness. I couldn’t see a damn thing. My arms felt heavy, my head was pounding, my body was aching from the coldness around me.
I moved my arms around, the sound of heavy chains clattered. The chains, they were clasped around my wrists. No wonder they felt so heavy.
Fear rushed through me. Why was I so cold? There was nothing but a cold draft from where I was sitting. All I could feel was the chilled, slick cement underneath me.
I tried to stand up, but just as I pulled myself up, I fell down immediately. The chains were too short. I spun around, feeling around me, noticing I was huddled up in a corner. There was nothing but thick cement surrounding me.
The fear that consumed me only grew larger and larger. My face felt wet. I was crying. I was cold. I have no idea where I am, or who took me. Before I could even try to grasp an image of my kidnapper, I blacked out.
I was almost too scared to scream, but without another thought my mouth opened up. “Hello! Help! Someone!” I screamed, my voice wobbly.
There was no response. Just pure darkened silence. I was alone. The tears only streamed down faster at this point. I was never one to be quite fearful, but this…I’m extremely scared and I don’t know what to do.
I pulled on the chains with all of the energy I had, which wasn’t much, but they weren’t budging. They were so heavy, I could barely hold my arms up.
“Please…” I wheezed out, feeling exhaustion take over me. “Please, someone help…” With no control, exhaustion took over and I closed my eyes.
I heard loud clattering, and a sliver of bright light shone on me as I heard a door open. I opened my eyes, pulling my knees into my chest. My vision was too blurry at the moment to make out anything but a shadowy figure and it was walking towards me.
In instinct, I scooted back as far as I could until I was caught in the corner. I wanted to scream, I wanted to run, but my voice was nowhere to be found, my legs, my body were frozen. I felt helpless.
Moments later, the room is filled with light. My eyes burned from the sudden brightness, taking several moments to adjust. There was a dark haired man, a man I’ve never seen before, standing before me.
His expression was flat as he looked at me with questioning eyes. He got right into my face as he stared into my eyes. He was looking at me as if he was looking for something.
He looked back at another man that was staring at me in the back of the room near the door. “Are you sure this is the one? I thought a Primordial has purple eyes. Her eyes are green.” His voice was low and gravely.
The second guy spoke, “she’s the one. Don’t you smell her. She smells different. I’m telling you, she’s the one Tallen’s been looking for.
The first guy, the one standing in front of me, turned his gaze back onto me. “You, girl,” he said with raspiness. “Tell us the truth…it’ll be in your best interest. Are you the Primordial?”
I kept my mouth shut. I was too scared to even talk. I don’t know who these guys are and what the hell they are talking about.
“You better open your mouth, girl. Tallen will not tolerate the silence.”
“Who’s Tallen?” I finally managed to ask.
“That isn’t important right now. You’ll be meeting him really soon. Now answer my question. I won’t ask again.”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about. You have the wrong person.”
He stared at me a little longer. His eyes narrowed and his jaw tensed. “You’re lying.” He took a big breath, sniffing me. “You’re the one. You are the one,” he repeated.
Tears started streaming down my face. My voice choppy and tremulous. “Please, you have the wrong person. I’m a mortal. I’m no one. I don’t even know what a Primordial is. Please…”
“Lie all you want, girl. Tallen will get the truth out of you.” He smirked at me before heading towards the door with the other guy.
“Please. I swear to you I’m telling you the truth.”
He stopped right at the threshold and paused for a few moments before proceeding and closing the door behind him, leaving me alone once again.
I was trembling and I was confused. The Primordial. The one they’ve been looking for. Tallen. None of what they were saying made sense. I’ve never heard of any of those things. They clearly had the wrong person, but they didn’t believe me.
I wasn’t sure what to do at this point. I couldn’t do anything. I was stuck in these chains. I had no idea where I even was, who took me or why they even took me in the first place.
Was there something that I didn’t know? It was clear that they think I’m someone, this Primordial they’re referring to, but I have no idea that that even is. Was there something that I was missing? Maybe Father got into some trouble, and they took me for ransom. Maybe they’re trying to get through to my family or Legardia, or even the Mortal Lands. Who knows. My mind is all over the place right now and I’m at a loss.
I’m all alone. I’m cold. I’m scared. I’m tired. So tired, yet I can’t give up. There has to be something, anything that I could do to try to help.
Wyatt.
My mind went back to Wyatt and his ability. He can reach people through the mind. Maybe he could hear me if I tried calling him through mine?
I remember right before I blacked at out the Ball, my mind immediately went to him, begging him to help. Maybe there was a reason for that. Maybe, my mind knew trying to reach out to him would work.
Who am I kidding…there was no way that would work, would it? First off, I have no clue where I am, so who knows how far away from him I actually am. Secondly, I have no clue if his ability even works like that. Sure, he could get through my mind, but would it even work if I tried to get through his?
Probably not, but hell, it doesn’t hurt to try.
I closed my eyes and concentrated. I dug deep into my mind, hoping that there was something that would connect me to Wyatt. All I saw was a glowing string, or chord of some sort. I have no idea where this even leads to and if it even leads to him, but without hesitation, I mentally grabbed it and squeezed.
“Wyatt, are you there? Wyatt? I’m in trouble. Please, come find me. I’ve been kidnapped.”
I waited several minutes, hoping there was something. Whether it be him actually talking back to me in my mind, or even just a tug or squeeze of whatever this chord is that I’ve got a death grip on, but there was nothing.
I try once more.
“Wyatt, please. I’m so scared. Please come save me. Please…please. I need you.”
Nothing. No response. No tug on this chord. There was nothing that would tell me he got my message or even heard me.
Realization hits me hard in the face, causing me to wince slightly as the tears start streaming down faster now.
Maybe I should just beg them to kill me at this point. It’s obvious I have no idea what they want from me or why they think I’m the person they’re looking for. Every question they’re going to ask is going to be an answer that they don’t want, so maybe instead of sitting down here, literally deteriorating, they’ll just end it now and save me the suffering.
The door gets thrown open, causing me to jump in response from the sudden slamming of the metal against the cement walls. A different man walks in this time. He was taller, sleeker. He had black hair and looked like he had to be somewhat important. I only wondered if this was that Tallen person that one guy was mentioning.
I pulled my knees up to my chest, keeping as far away from him as the walls would allow me. I looked up at him with narrowed eyes, and before he could say anything, my mouth opened first. “What do you want from me?”
He walked over to the far wall by the door, and grabbed a chair. He pulled the chair up to right in front of me as he plopped down, looking like he had no care in the world. He didn’t answer me though. He continued to look at me, as if he was trying to see through me, to see the truth of what he was looking for.
“I’m not what you’re looking for. I’m a mortal. I’m of no importance to you.”
He studied me for several minutes, just sitting there. His eyes were as dark as night. His face was boney, and sleek. He looked older, but it was hard to tell, since I realized he was a Vampire.
What would a Vampire want with me? Does it have something to do with my identity being compromised whenever I crossed the border? Have I been found from my visits that he kidn*pped me to get to my Father?
“It’s you, isn’t it…” he murmured, I believe more to himself than to me. He inches closer to me, leaning over until his face was only inches from mine. He stared into my eyes, looking for something, just like the other guy did. “Blink,” he demanded.
“What?” I asked looking at him in confusion.
“I said blink.”
I was ready to protest, but I was chained up in some sort of dungeon, with nowhere to go and I was human with no abilities or powers. There was nothing I could do, so I listened and blinked my eyes, several times for good measure.
“You’re eyes. You’re wearing contacts.”
I looked away. My words were desperate and sharp. “What? No, No I’m not. This is my real eye color.”
“You are the one. I smell you. You’re different. You’re unique. I finally found you.”
“Who do you think I am?” I asked curiously. He seemed so sure that he knew who I was.
He stared at me again, his eyes could literally put a whole in me from the amount of staring he’s done. His jaw flexed and his eyes narrowed. “You have no idea, do you?” I looked at him with a questioning expression, but I kept quiet. “You don’t know what you are. You have no clue.”
What I am…
“What do you mean what I am? I’m mortal, a human. What else would I be?”
“You have no idea.” He thought to himself for a moment before continuing, “of course you don’t. You were just a baby…”
I jolted up in my seating position, straightening my back out. My eyes slightly widened. “What are you talking about?”
“You must be hungry. Let’s eat, and we will talk afterwards.”
He stood up, walking over to me, as he opens the chains around my wrists with no problem. My arms suddenly fell down to my side, feeling like jello, from the weight of the chains. He took a step back, holding his hand out.
There was no way I was going to take his hand. This guy, this Vampire, kidn*pped me. The last thing I’ll do is let him help me.
I pulled myself up, using the wall as leverage. My legs felt weak and wobbly from sitting for so long, but after a few moments, they strengthened and I managed to balance myself out.
His expression was blank. “Come,” he said, walking towards the door.
I followed him, keeping my arms close to my sides. We walked up a huge flight of stairs into what looked to be some sort of foyer. Wherever we were, the walls and the floors looked almost like they looked down in the basement where I was. The walls are grey stoned and the floors were cement. It looked pretty eerie inside, and definitely the opposite of what the Palace at home looks. It was much darker here, more gothic like, and it wasn’t as welcoming.
