Chapter 3

842 Words
Warm liquid ran down his neck. Jeremy covered the back of his head and turned his face. He saw a small girl who looked very much like Laura. The girl held a heavy chair above her head. Her face was red. "Why did you hurt my brother? You are a bad driver." Jeremy froze. The pain in his head, the burns on his legs, all of it together could not compare to the pain tearing through his chest in this moment. This was his daughter. He instinctively reached out, wanting to touch that little face. Halfway there, he suddenly pulled his hand back. His hands were covered in blisters. Skin had broken open. They looked frightening. He was afraid of scaring her. The girl noticed his strange expression. She quickly ran into Don's arms and said with grievance. "I avenged my brother! I won't let bad people bully him." Don smiled with satisfaction. "Mina, you did well. You are the young master. You can teach him a lesson." The young master. Jeremy knelt on the ground, shaking all over. He remembered when Laura was pregnant with this daughter. She sent him messages saying the baby was not developing well and needed supplements, asking for more money. At that time, the BBQ restaurant was framed by competitors and business collapsed. They could barely afford food. Her father's dementia was getting worse. He soiled himself every two hours. Jeremy ran the restaurant while also rushing home all the time. He knelt on the floor every day to clean and bathe the old man. However, the old man did not recognize him. He grabbed a broom and hit him, calling him a pretty boy who seduced his daughter and saying he should be beaten to death. Jeremy could only protect his head and dodge. He was injured many times until his head bled. In the summer heat, he went to work injured. Rumors spread that he had cheated with someone's wife. He was beaten again until his face was swollen and bruised. He never explained. He swallowed every grievance and only wanted to keep the BBQ restaurant running. Every penny he earned was sent to Laura for nutrition supplements. However, now, the daughter he worked so hard for struck him with a chair. He never imagined this would happen. Don was very satisfied with his expression and shouted, "Clean this up! Do you still want your things or not?" Jeremy's hands trembled violently. Broken ceramic pieces cut his fingers. Blood mixed with the stew, sticky and thick. He felt nothing. He cleaned the mess and threw it into the trash bin. Just as he stood up, Don's cold voice came again. "Do you know how much that bowl of stew costs?" Jeremy froze. "Two thousand dollars." Don took a sip of coffee. "And you just threw it away." Jeremy's face turned pale. "What do you want me to do?" "Of course, you eat it. Do you think I will give you a separate meal?" Don laughed with contempt. Jeremy's face darkened. "I will not eat it." Don smiled and picked up the divorce agreement, moving closer to the fireplace. "If I am not wrong, you probably have a mistress. That is why you rushed here. "Yes. I am humiliating you." Don shook the document. "If you do not drink this stew, you will not get anything back." Jeremy suddenly laughed. Don frowned. "What are you laughing at?" "On the way here, I kept thinking." Jeremy spoke slowly. "What kind of man Laura fell for? However, are you really the son of a multinational CEO? A young master raised in luxury would not be this cruel." Don's face changed sharply as if struck. "Shut up." "Mr. Clark, make him drink it!" Don shouted. The butler rushed forward and grabbed Jeremy's hair. "Open your mouth." Jeremy clenched his jaw. Mr. Clark was strong. He grabbed Jeremy's jaw with one hand and forced the seafood stew from the trash into his mouth with the other. The fishy hot stew mixed with broken ceramic poured into his mouth. The shards cut his tongue and scraped his throat. Pain made his whole body tremble. He tried to vomit but Mr. Clark held his jaw like iron clamps, forcing him to swallow. Fragments stuck in his throat. He coughed violently. Blood flowed from the corner of his mouth onto his shirt. Don sat at the table holding Mina and watched. Mina tilted her head. "Daddy, what is he eating?" Don kissed her forehead and smiled. "He is eating what a lowly driver deserves." Jeremy shook his head. He wanted to tell Mina that he was not a lowly driver. He was her father, the father who worked himself to the bone just to pay for her treatment. However, Mr. Clark kept forcing more stew into his mouth. He coughed and could not speak a single word. Don stood up, satisfied. "Remember. In this house, you are nothing. "Be an obedient dog for a few days. Then I might return your things."
