The day was spent mostly in quiet. No radio, no television, and no tablet noises filtered through the air. The silence was bursting Jake’s eardrums and he couldn’t stand it any longer. Deep into the afternoon he decided to bite the bullet and attempt a conversation with Brian as he knocked softly on his bedroom door. Jake pushed the door open and peeked inside. Brian was awake and had his ear buds in his ears. The same image he’d seen the night before, only it hadn’t been Brian laying there, safe in the home he’d worked so hard to provide for his nephews.
