The consequences of Cassian Vale’s previous intervention did not fade as Aurora Devereux initially expected. Instead, they settled into a quieter, more persistent shift that gradually reshaped how people responded to her presence across both corporate and external environments.

Authority no longer needed reinforcement in her interactions. Decisions that once required negotiation were now accepted with minimal resistance, as though hesitation itself had been quietly removed from the system surrounding her.

Yet nothing about the timing or consistency of the changes appeared disconnected from his presence.

“You are aware this is not occurring naturally,” she said eventually, breaking the silence between them.

His response came without delay, steady and controlled.

“It is structured.”

“That structure affects how people respond to me.”

“It removes instability.”

The simplicity of his answer left no space for misinterpretation.

Aurora’s gaze remained on him longer than usual, searching for a shift that did not come. His composure remained unchanged, as though the outcome was not something to justify, but something already finalized.

The implication settled between them without need for further explanation.

“You are altering the environment around me,” she said.

The statement was calm, but direct.

The pause that followed was brief.

“It is being stabilized,” he replied.

“That is not your decision alone.”

A second passed before he answered.

“It becomes my concern when it affects you.”

Aurora did not challenge the pattern again that day.

Cassian did not attempt to justify it beyond what he had already stated.
