Chapter Five

Okay, hear me out, I know he's the most dangerous alpha out there and the tales of his domination of his enemies are endless, but I have already decided to quit letting men like him speak down to me. So, that explains a little about what I said next. Crossing my arms over my chest and staring the very naked (okay, fine gorgeous as heck) alpha in the eye, I said "Who the hell are you?" Not my best comeback ever but my adrenaline was still pumping from the fight and this guy was being a jerk. His wolves around us growled at the blatant disrespect I showed. The alpha himself c****d a brow at me. Well, there's no taking that back now, so I just observed him, waiting for him to kill me for challenging him. I took in his massive build. If I thought his wolf was large, the man himself was just as big and intimidating. He stood around 6'5 with a lean muscular build. What the heck, is that an 8 pack? The man was ripped. He had obsidian black hair, like his wolf, that touched his shoulders. His face looked to be chiseled by one of those human sculptors I read about in the Renaissance period. I met his eyes, which were the color of liquid metal, again and jerked myself out of my perusal. Crap, he definitely noticed me checking him out. "Miss, this is the Alpha of the Shadow Pack. Apologies, Alpha. She did not mean any disrespect. She protected me and my family and took down those rogues. She is still calming down from the fight," the wounded husband stated, kneeling to the alpha. Shock went through my body as I turned and looked at the wolf who defended me. The last person to defend me was my father. No one has tried to protect me since then. He looked over from his kneeling position and gave me a sincere smile. What a kind soul. "State your name, wolf," the alpha's gravelly voice danced across my skin as his alpha command made its way to the kind wolf. "I am Scott James, formally of the crimson pack, a new member of the Shadow Pack. We were on our way to our induction when these rogues attacked us," Scott said. Still bowing his head to the Alpha respectfully. "Thank you, Scott. You should relax and follow my beta, Theo, into the border. Go see the pack healer and rest. We will do your induction ceremony once you are fully healed," Damien instructs, softening his rough voice a bit. Another feeling of surprise went through me. I would never expect the demon alpha of rumors to be so kind and caring. His eyes cut to me as the family follows the beta wolf, walking north to the Shadow pack lands. With the way the alpha looked at me, I may need to revoke my statement about him being kind. He was so going to murder me. Before the small family left the clearing, the little girl seemed to come out of her initial shock and turned back to me. Her eyes gleamed a bright white, different from the blue I saw earlier. "Thank you, Miss Alpha Wolf. My family is in your debt today. If there is anything you ever need, please come to us here, and I will grant your request," the little girl said, sounding much older and wiser than she looked. And hold up, did she just say, Miss Alpha Wolf??? How on earth did she know? Her mother and father gasped, looking up at me with awe. "You are an alpha wolf?" the woman exclaims, wonder filling her eyes. Well, I guess my secret of the last 18 years is out. I gave her a questioning look, and the woman explained, "My daughter is an oracle, she can see the future, auras, and power levels among the supernatural." I looked at the girl in fascination as her eyes slowly returned to their blue color. She looked at me sheepishly, "I'm sorry, ma'am. My oracle side does not always allow for secrets." She ducked her head into her mother's side and peeked at me with one eye. I gave her a kind smile. "No need to apologize, Princess. My wolf, Onyx, is quite excited that someone finally recognizes her greatness," I said back. It was true too, Onyx was pacing excitedly in my head. The little oracle slowly stepped away from her mother's side and towards me. The wolves shifted around us, getting slightly closer, ready to protect her if I was a threat. I also felt the alpha's eyes boring into the back of my head. Forgot about the big grump behind me for a second, too amazed at meeting an oracle. I read about them in my old pack's small library when Liam was my friend, and I was allowed there. They are extremely rare, which made sense as to why the rogues were trying so hard to get to her. Oracles are wolves born on the third red full moon of the year. This occurrence only happens every 200 years, usually when there is a great need for them. I could feel a chill running down my back. Things will soon change, for better or worse, I do not know. "May I meet her? Your wolf," she asks sweetly, continuing to walk forward. Onyx yipped excitedly in my head. She was so on board with showing off. I turned to Damien, hating that I had to seek the alpha's permission. But shifting in front of an alpha without permission would give him yet another reason to kill me. I looked at him expectantly, awaiting his response. He stared at me for what seemed like forever, those steel-gray eyes observing every inch of me. My skin came alive as if his eyes were physically caressing me. I gave my head a small shake to clear it. I don't know what that reaction is about. The alpha looked a little less hostile at this point and also a bit curious. "You may shift but if you try to flee, I will end you," he growls out. It took everything in me not to roll my eyes at the murderous wolf. I didn't have a death wish, excluding my attitude. Onyx, on the other hand, growled in my head at the threat. Yikes. "Easy girl," I said softly to her. "This is your first time in front of other wolves, please be on your best behavior." I gave control to Onyx, and we shifted instantly. Gasps from the family sliced through the silence and the surrounding wolves took a step back. Onyx approved of this, loving that they recognized her dominance. She did not spare them a glance, the tiny creature in front of her held all of her attention. She stood still so as not to scare the small oracle and slowly bent her head to not appear as intimidating. The little girl stretched out an even smaller hand and touched Onyx's nose. "You are beautiful, Onyx. Truly one of a kind," she says as she strokes Onyx's white fur. One of a kind? There are no other female alphas? That can't be right. Panic creeps in and an unsettling feeling drops into my stomach. Is that why that rogue killed my family and hunted me? Because I'm the only female alpha? Was it really all my fault?
