The gentle breeze broke my thoughts as I caught a paper that I had left unattended beside me. I was trying to focus my thoughts on my work. I got a call early this morning saying there was an opening to take my test earlier and a job opportunity right away. I had to pass this test, I had to do it for Molly.
‘Why she doesn’t deserve your help. She has done everything against you.’ The evil spoke. I sighed. I have almost given up fighting him.
“Oliver.” Alisa called breaking my thoughts. If she wasn’t here I would have probably stormed off and done something bad. She would always call over to me when my thoughts would get the better of me.
“Carefull.” I called as she slipped of the monkey bars. She brushed herself off and tried again causing a smile to form on my face. I sighed as I pulled out my phone. I mentally hit myself when I saw the multiple messages and a few phone calls. I forgot I had put it on silence this morning. Quickly scanning through I notices Ella called multiple time and left multiple messages. My mind went to the one phone call from Molly. I instantly dialed her after I read a few of Ella's messages. I was packing up as I did.
“Hello?” Her voice sounded so sleepy. She had to been asleep.
“Where are you?” I demanded. Worry etched my voice. Something was not right and I could feel it.
“Home.” Was all she said as I raced towards Alisa.
“Molly how are you feeling?” I asked but shortly after I heard the phone fall. Fear took me as I grabbed Alisa and zipped us away. Alisa knew I had magic. I never told her Molly did and even if she knew she never let on. I told her it was a secret one that could separate us if anyone found out. She was good at keeping secrets.
“What’s wrong?” Alisa asked worried as we appeared in the house. I let her go and dropped my bag as I raced up the stairs to Molly’s room. She was right behind me.
“Molly.” I screamed as I opened her door. Her phone was on the floor as she was passed out on the bed. I quickly gathered her in my arms as tears began to fall. I heard her shallow breathing and knew we had to go to the hospital. “Alisa I need my phone.”
“Here.” She said passing it to me. She must have grabbed it as I raced up the stairs. I quickly dialed the only number I knew I could.
“Dr. Thomas.” The voice of the only man we could trust with who we where. He was my fathers best friend.
“Molly has collapsed again.” I cried and I could hear him stiffen.
“Where is she?” he demanded.
“At home with me. Her friend dropped her off and took the car. She is breathing shallow.” I explain hoping everything was going to be alright.
“I am in the neighbouring hood. I’ll be right there. Keep an eye on her vitals till I get there.” He said before I heard the click on the other end. I could feel the color drain from my face as I let the phone drop and stared at my twin. Alisa was crying from beside me.
“She’s going to be okay right.” Alisa spoke worried.
“Your sister is strong Alisa. She just needs some time. Doctor Thomas is coming over.” I spoke gently. I could feel myself breaking as I placed my hand on her neck. She couldn’t do this to me. She had to make it. We needed her.
“Oliver.” A voice cried from down stairs. Alisa was out of the room running down to him. They where back up in seconds. “how is she?”
“I don’t know.” I cried letting her go as he checked her over.
“You can drive right?” He asked. I nodded not really able to make talk. He nodded as he passed me the keys.” Take my car and get to the hospital right away. I will take her the other way.”
“Okay. Come Alisa.” I called as I grabbed my sisters hand and raced down the stairs. I had my wallet in my hand as we raced out the door. His car was parked started and door opened. Alisa raced to the backseat where I helped her buckle before I got in the drivers seat. The car handled well as I raced through the streets to park in his designated spot. We both jumped out and raced to the front desk.
“Down the hall to the left, up the stairs take a right and you will get further instructions there.” The lady said as we approached. I nodded as we did as she said. The next laid led us to a waiting room where we sat and waited.
“Oliver.” Dr Thomad spoke. He looked exhausted and upset. Oliver began to break as he stepped towards him.
“How is she.” I feared the question.
“She is exhausted to the point she will have to recover here.” He spoke though it felt like he wanted to say something else. It was like he was hiding something from me but I didn’t want to press it.
“Should I grab anything from home for her or what should I do?” I asked not really sure what to do. I couldn’t process what was going on. I couldn’t even fathom what was going on.
“I would grab her cell phone and anything to keep Alisa busy. She will be out for a few days.” He spoke with a heavy sigh. “I have her set up in her own room where you guys can spend time with her here.”
“Alright I will go do that.” I spoke still unsure what I was doing. He watched me walk away before his hand fell on my shoulder.
“Don’t go home and drink okay. Get the stuff come right back. Grab your studying books as well. She needs you here and close by.” Dr Thomas spoke. I was shocked, did he know. “Your stress is what brought this on Oliver. The stress, the drinking it will only make it 10 times worse.”
“What?” I asked so confused as I looked at him.
“Ever wonder why your father pushed anything with alcohol away?” He said before letting me go and walking back to Molly’s room.
He knew about the demon the played me. He knew about the voice. My father must have had it. My father must have been fighting him. Now with him gone it has attached to me. Better me then her honestly. I couldn’t dream of fighting back his evil talk and working as hard as she did. My body moved towards the door as a beautiful lady came and wrapped me in her arms. It was Mrs. Thomas, I could tell. She was the only one that would embrace us like this.
I’ll take you home.” She spoke gently as she held me around the shoulders as we walked to the car. We got in and the quiet ride to the house was welcoming. I could gain my thoughts and figure out all I needed. She let me out at the house before driving away.
“Hello.” I spoke into my phone a little worried it was the hospital. I’d didn’t even look at the caller ID.
“He Oliver, Its Ella. How is Molly?” The ladies voice spoke gently on the other end.
“Hey Ella, shes in the hospital.” I spoke with a sigh.
“What? I knew I should have taken her there.” She said. Anger laced her every word. “I am just about done work. I’ll swing the car by the hospital.”
“Actually I’m at home could you pick me up. I have to gather a few things.” I told her. She agreed to it as we hung up. I gathered a few things Molly would want as soon as she woke up. I came across an envelope of money and the demon took off.
‘Look at that, she has a stash of money hiding from you.’
“There has to be an explanation as to this.” I spoke gently. My heart broke. Why would she hide this money.
‘She doesn’t trust you guys.’ He spoke. The anger now getting added. She had no right. She had no right to hid this. ‘Bet she is loaded with money.’
“She cant do this to me.” I cried as I began to throw things. The demon in side me chuckling as he encouraged me.
“Oliver.” Ella called from the door. I don’t know how long it had been but I was completely spent. I was tired but I knew I had to keep going. The demon pushed me up. I snapped my fingers and began to walk to her. By the time I made it down stairs to her the bag was full of things I needed to grab.
“Sorry to keep you waiting ella.” There was a hint of something in my voice. I couldn’t put my finger on it but it was like it wasn’t me talking.
“All good. You got everything?” She asked with a smile. Oh how I wish to rip that smile off her face. Happiness is not something one should have. Wait what was I thinking.
“Yeah.” I said following her out. This cant be good. I locked up and followed her to the car. The drive was silent which I was happy. I dropped her off at home before continuing to the hospital.
“Oliver.” Alisa came running from the waiting room. My heart dropped as I saw her face.
‘Just imagine how much injustice she could have done to Alisa if she has done that to you.’ The demon cooed. Alisa's embrace and tears broke me from any thoughts towards that.
“Where going to lose her aren’t we.” She wailed. I dropped to my knees and held her close.
“There is no way I am going to let that happen.” I spoke with all my might. The demon trying to hold back those words. I had let him in and now I have to fight to get myself back. I accepted him to take half of me. I couldn’t let him win. I couldn’t let him take over.
“Molly.” She cried into my shoulder as I held her tight.
For three long days we where in and out of the room. Dr. Thomas and a co-worker he trusted helping her day in and day out. Dr. Thomas helped me pass my test and even told me a lady to call for a job. I decided to give her a call right away and set up a meeting. It worked out well. She seemed a little on edge about it but decided to give me a chance.
“Molly is awake.” A voice startled me from behind. I jumped a bit as I turned around. Alisa raced up to me and held me tight. “She is awake.”
“Grab something to eat.” I spoke annoyed. This stupid Demon. Alisa looked at me a bit confused as she grabbed a wrap and brought it to the counter. I paid for the stuff and we raced back up to her room. Well she did and would have to stop. I was fighting the demon to move faster which was getting us no where.
“Just quit everything.” We heard the doctor say as we entered the room.
“Molly going to be home for the evening now?” Alisa spoke gently.
“She definitely will be.” I spoke forcing it out. I had to force him away as he tried to speak. She didn’t need anything from him. My sister was awake and I couldn’t think of his evil things now. I needed her to smile to be happy. “There is no way she is going back to work so much.”
“Yeah, Molly you hear that. You don’t have to go back.” Alisa smiled as she held Molly’s hand close. I could see her crying though I knew she was trying to hold them back. I quickly placed our lunch on the table and raced over to her. The doc nodding as he took a step back to the far wall. It was like he was concentrating on something.
“Don’t cry guys, please don’t cry. This will all be okay.” I spoke walking over trying to cheer them up. “I passed my course Molly. I passed it and have graduated.”
“What.” She cried confused. I held her close muttering how stupid I was to say anything. I bet she still thought it was Saturday. She didn’t know what had be out for a few days.
“Don’t worry about it Molly. All is fine now.” I finnaly spoke as I let her go. I grabbed Alisa's hand and led her back to the small coffee table where I told her to eat. The nurse had brought in some food for Molly and I followed her over. Yes I was starving but I knew she would be to.
‘You should feed yourself before her. Stupid wench didn’t care to inform you of all the times she ate out. Bet this is another ploy for attention.’ The demon huffed. No not now. I will not have this now. I sat beside her pushing him away.
“Oli how long have I been out for?” She spoke gently before I could get a bite into her mouth.
“Not long enough.” I sighed knowing that would not satisfy her. “Molly your exhausted. You have been out for a little over 3 days.”
“The weekend is gone.” She spoke shocked and a little upset. I wonder why.
“Don’t worry, it’s all good. I have sold most of my books as I took an early exam and passed. I will be getting my Bachelor’s Degree in a few days. Doc says you will be there to witness it.” I say happily before the demon could say anything. I forced a spoon full of the content into her mouth. It looked like soup but sure didn’t smell like it. “We just have to get food in you and get you sleeping properly.”
“I’m sorry.” She spoke between bites. This shocked me. “I have done the one thing I promised I would never do.”
“Molly, I knew it was going to happen. Me and the doctor have been in close contact. No normal person can work that much and not be exhausted.” I spoke as I put another bit into my mouth. She nodded gently as she chewed. I cant believe she was being hard on her self after everything she has done for us. “I promise Molly, I will climb the chain high in the company I work for and you won’t ever have to work again once I get there. I will get your life set up and you can return to school.”
“I would like that.” She spoke, her eyes where starting to spin. I could see the discoloration on her face.
“Molly.” I screamed as I reached for her. I placed the food down before going back to her. “Dr.Thomas.”
“I’m here.” He spoke as if he was waking up from a nap. He raced over to her before she was wheeled out of the room. Alisa hugged me at the hip as we watched her leave. My heart was breaking. Why couldn’t I have been smart and tried to get through school faster.
‘She didn’t have the money to put you through fast. Or so she says' the demon spoke. ‘If she only worked harder she could have been out of all this and you would have glory.’
He was right. It could have been avoided. That thought was on my brain as I watched over her that night. Alisa asleep on my lap. When morning came I left her at the hospital as I went home and showered before my interview. I got dressed up properly and made my way over to the building.
“I’m here to see Mrs. Yama.” I spoke gently to the receptionist.
“Have a seat I will let her know you’re here.” She spoke with a friendly smile. You could see workers running back and forward behind her desk. Many of them looked out of sorts.
“Mr. Oliver how are you.” Marline spoke as she came out of a door and into the waiting area.
“I am good Ma'am.” I spoke as polite as I could conjure up. I had a lock on my demon. It wouldn’t stay put but I knew it would hold for half hour or so.
“Come my office is this way.” She said after shaking my outstretched hand. I followed her quietly down the hall into a very clean white room. The window over looked some of the city. “So you have just graduated I see.”
“Yes Ma'am.” I said as I saw her looking over my resume. She motioned for me to sit in a chair. We both sat down together.
“Took an early exam?” She spoke a little shocked.
“My sister has been working hard to get me through school, pay the Bill’s and make sure my little sister gets to school. I want to help her out so when I saw the opportunity to take the exam early I jumped on it.” I told her as true as I could. It discussed me for some reason to say some of the stuff.
“I see. Well Oliver, I don’t normally hire people out of school. I like to have them get seasoned by other companies first then bring them on board.” She spoke and I felt my heart drop. “But I will make the exception just this once.”
“Thank you ma'am.” I spoke as I sighed internally.
“There is a lot of room to grow in my company and I hope you do.” She smiled at me but I could see the hesitation in her eyes. I knew I would have to prove my worth to her and I would. Molly needed me to. “You will start the week after graduation. Take care of your sister and get that degree.”
“Thank you so much ma'am.” I spoke happily. She chuckled as we shook hands and I left. I got the job as I raced out of there back home. Quickly changing I raced to the hospital to find she was still asleep. I would have to wait to tell her. She needed to know.
“Well.” Dr. Thomas asked coming out of her room.
“I got the job.” I said excitedly.
“That’s my boy.” He said embracing me. It felt so good almost like dad’s hugs. “You both will do well for her and the company.”
“What?” I asked confused.
‘Oh looked yet another secret she has hidden from you.’ The demon chuckled.
“She also got a job with my sister in law.” He spoke happy before walking off.
“But that was my thing.” I spoke upset. If we worked at the same firm we would be competing against each other.
‘You have worked hard for this. This is your time to shine. She is nothing compared to you.’ The demon spoke as I stumbled to a chair.
‘She has taken this from me.’ I thought looking over at her. ‘this is my dream.’
‘What are you going to do about it.’ The demon spoke with a smile.
‘She will not beat me.’ I spoke and that was it. He had me hooked. I had to watch in the back ground as he moved my body. He allowed me sometime to take over but most of it was his. I was the demon.
“Hey buddy how is Molly.” Braken asked as he clamped his hand on my back.
“Alive.” I said walking away from the stage. She was to sick to come so I had to graduate with only Alisa here to watch me. How stupid is that. Work herself to death and cant enjoy my happiness.
“You okay buddy?” He spoke a little concerned. I looked at him with no expression.
“Sorry been in and out of the hospital a lot.” I told him trying to lighten up the mood.
“Maybe you should head home for a good shower and nap. Me and Calista can head over to the hospital with Alisa for you.” He smiled. Always about Molly and Alisa. Not only is she fighting to take my job but she is also fighting to take my friends.
“No I will take care of her myself.” I snapped walking away. Alisa came over to me as I passed back my grad gown as we went to the car. I didn’t stop at the house as I had a change of clothing for her in the car. We drove right to the hospital where she changed in the bathroom before heading up to the room.
“Molly.” Alisa gently voice called to Molly who seemed asleep. She opened her eyes and her face lit up as she saw her..
“Alisa.” She gently said. It was a relief to see her raise her hand. You could tell the worry and fear fall off Alisa's shoulders as she held Molly’s hand to her cheek.
“How are you feeling.” Alisa asked happily. I knew she had a big smile on her face..
“Better now that I get to see that smile.” Molly said smiling with her as you can see her body relax. They chuckled together. I gently sat on the edge of the bed. My gaze down casted but I could see her out of the corner of my eye. She looked at me for a bit before clueing into what today was. Tears began to pour down her cheeks as I felt the guilt and pain hit my heart. I wanted to comfort her but the demon inside me wouldn’t let me. “I’m sorry.”
“I am going to Leave Alisa with you for the night. I hope that will be okay.” I spoke not even looking at her. I could feel her tense like she knew something was wrong. I tried not to show it but I knew she would figure it out.
“Oliver i….”
“I got to go.” I spoke harshly as I got up and left. I could here her calling for me but I couldn’t turn around no matter how much I wanted to. He would not let me.
“Molly.” Alisa cried could be heard from where I was but I let it go. I couldn’t control myself anymore as I fell into oblivion. The demons haunting chuckle as he took over vowing to never give the body back. I would watch this horror film play out. I had given up and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
As he left the hospital I knew exactly where we where going. This was bad but I prayed he would behave but I didn’t even know what to expect and why should I care. He seems more knowledgeable then I. He would be fine and of course his anger was only towards Molly. He wouldn’t hurt anyone but her and she deserved it.
‘Time to spend that money you got from your books.’ The demon cooed. Why not, she had enough to cover the extra fees for the babysitter and then some. Wait what was I saying. I have never thought this evil. ‘Welcome to hell.’
