"Are you alright, sir?" Jace was startled out of his daydream by Elena's gentle voice as it burst through the stillness.
His secretary was standing in the doorway when he looked up after briefly getting dizzy. Her worried face was the ideal disguise for the chaos swirling inside of her.
Jace spoke calmly, "I'm fine," even though his thoughts were anything but. "Just reasoning some things."
Elena moved in closer after nodding. "If there's anything I can do to help..."
"No," Jace snapped out of it, trying to smile. "It's nothing I can't handle."
Jace was actually far from okay.
