Ava Morgan's POV
The words echoed through my mind.
They found you.
My pulse raced.
I stared at Damian, waiting for him to explain.
Instead, he walked back to his desk and pressed a button.
The office door opened immediately.
Victor entered.
One look at Damian's face and his expression hardened.
"What happened?"
Damian's eyes never left mine.
"Increase security."
Victor nodded instantly.
"It's already being done."
Security?
For me?
I crossed my arms.
"Would someone please tell me what's going on?"
The room fell silent.
Victor looked at Damian.
Damian looked annoyed.
Which only made me more suspicious.
Finally, Damian sighed.
"Ava, have you ever wondered why your rejection felt... unusual?"
My stomach tightened.
"What does that mean?"
"The bond shouldn't have broken the way it did."
I froze.
Every werewolf knew the pain of rejection.
But Damian's words suggested something different.
Something wrong.
"I don't understand."
"Neither do I."
His answer surprised me.
For the first time, he looked genuinely frustrated.
"As much as I dislike admitting it, there are pieces missing."
Victor frowned.
"You're telling her now?"
"Telling me what?"
Nobody answered.
Again.
I was beginning to hate that.
Then Damian's phone rang.
His expression darkened after reading the message.
"What is it?" Victor asked.
Damian's jaw tightened.
"Our watcher has been identified."
A chill spread through me.
"Who is he?"
Victor looked grim.
"Rogue."
My breath caught.
Rogue wolves were dangerous.
Packless.
Unpredictable.
Often violent.
The idea that one had been watching me sent fear crawling through my body.
"Why would a rogue want me?"
Damian's eyes narrowed.
"That's exactly what we're going to find out."
Before anyone could say another word, a sharp pain shot through my chest.
I gasped.
My knees nearly buckled.
Immediately, Damian was beside me.
Strong hands caught my arms.
"Ava."
His voice sounded distant.
The pain grew stronger.
My necklace suddenly became warm against my skin.
Too warm.
I grabbed it instinctively.
The silver pendant glowed.
Actually glowed.
A faint silver light pulsed beneath my fingers.
The room went completely silent.
Victor stared.
Damian froze.
Even my wolf seemed shocked.
"What..."
The glow vanished.
Just like that.
As though nothing had happened.
I looked up.
Both men were staring at the necklace.
Neither looked pleased.
"Tell me that's not what I think it is," Victor muttered.
Damian's expression became unreadable.
"Ava."
My heart pounded.
"Yes?"
"Where did you get that necklace?"
I swallowed.
"My mother gave it to me before I left."
The look Damian and Victor exchanged made my stomach drop.
They knew something.
Something important.
Something about me.
And whatever it was, they clearly hadn't expected me to have that necklace.
Outside the skyscraper, hidden among the crowded streets, a hooded rogue wolf watched the building.
A cruel smile spread across his face.
At last.
After years of searching.
He had found her.
