The Past Came Calling

“You will what?” A deep, commanding voice cut through the air like a knife. The entire atmosphere shifted. The moment Aiden Brooks stepped into view, the guards straightened, the tension in the room thickened, and Davis’ bravado instantly faded. He turned slowly, his face losing all color. Aiden walked forward at an unhurried pace, his gaze locked onto Davis like a predator eyeing its prey. “You seem to enjoy making a fool of yourself,” Aiden said smoothly. “But I have limits to my patience.” Davis swallowed hard. “This does not concern you, Brooks.” Aiden stopped directly in front of him. Davis had to crane his neck slightly to meet his gaze. “It does,” Aiden said simply. “You are standing in my house, raising your voice at my wife. That concerns me.” Davis flinched slightly at the word wife. His hands trembled, but he forced himself to stand tall. “I just want to talk to Emma,” he said, his voice lower now. Aiden smirked. “And I just want you to disappear. It seems we cannot always get what we want.” Davis’ face turned red with anger, but he knew better than to argue. Aiden Brooks was not a man he could fight. Aiden leaned in slightly, his voice dropping into something cold and deadly. “This is the last time you will set foot on my property,” he said. “If I see you here again, you will regret it.” Davis took a shaky breath. “You cannot threaten me.” Aiden chuckled. “It is not a threat. It is a promise.” The silence that followed was suffocating. Davis took an involuntary step back. His confidence, his arrogance, everything shattered under Aiden’s presence. Emma watched with satisfaction. Davis had spent years controlling and manipulating her. But now, he was nothing more than a pathetic man standing in front of someone far more powerful. Aiden turned to the guards. “Get him out.” Davis’ face twisted with rage. “Emma, you will regret this.” Emma smiled. “I regret ever wasting my time on you.” The guards grabbed Davis by the arms and escorted him out. He struggled at first, but one warning look from Aiden made him stop. The large iron gates closed behind him, sealing his fate. Emma exhaled, turning to Aiden. “That was entertaining.” Aiden smirked. “Ants always scurry when faced with real power.” Emma chuckled. “You really do enjoy this, do you not?” Aiden met her gaze. “Not as much as you do.” Emma did not deny it. She had spent too long being the victim. Now, she was the one in control. And it felt incredible. Later that evening, Emma received a call from Isabel. “Are you watching the news?” Isabel asked, her voice filled with excitement. Emma turned on the television. “Davis Williams Removed from Aiden Brooks’ Estate—Security Footage Leaked!” A video of Davis being escorted out played on repeat. The news anchors speculated about his desperation, his downfall, and his connection to the Sophia Leonard scandal. Emma laughed softly. “Oh, this is perfect.” Isabel giggled. “Davis’ PR team is scrambling. He is losing control of the narrative.” Emma leaned back against the couch. “Let him drown in it.” Isabel’s voice turned more serious. “Are you ready for the next step?” Emma’s eyes gleamed. “Always.” Isabel exhaled. “Alright. We expose what he did to you three years ago.” Emma’s grip on her phone tightened. She had been waiting for this moment. Three years ago, Davis had taken everything from her. Now, she would make sure he lost everything too. She smirked. “Let’s do it.” As she hung up, she felt a presence behind her. She turned slightly to see Aiden standing by the doorway, his gaze unreadable. “You are enjoying this too much,” he remarked. Emma smirked. “And you are not?” Aiden walked toward her, stopping just a few inches away. “I enjoy winning,” he said. “And right now, you are winning.” Emma held his gaze. “Thanks to you.” Aiden’s lips curled slightly. “Do not give me too much credit. You are the one pulling the strings.” Emma tilted her head. “And what about you? What do you get out of this?” Aiden leaned in slightly, his voice dropping. “I like watching strong women destroy weak men.” Emma felt a chill run down her spine. Aiden Brooks was dangerous. And maybe… just maybe… she liked that. “Emma, you are everywhere.” Isabel’s voice rang through the phone the moment Emma picked up. She stood by the window in Aiden’s mansion, the city lights twinkling in the distance. Emma smirked. “I know. I just watched the news.” “The headlines are brutal,” Isabel said. “Davis is getting ripped apart by the media. His sponsors are pulling out, his company’s stocks are dropping, and Sophia is nowhere to be seen.” Emma’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. “Good. He deserves it.” Isabel hesitated. “Are you sure you are ready for the next step?” Emma exhaled slowly. She had been waiting for this moment for three years. The truth about what Davis did to her back then had been buried, but now, she was ready to dig it up and show the world. She tightened her grip on her phone. “Yes. It is time.” The next morning, Emma sat at the dining table, stirring her coffee as Bryce approached. “Mr. Brooks would like to see you in his study,” Bryce informed her. Emma arched an eyebrow. “What does he want this time?” Bryce kept his expression neutral. “He did not say. But I assume it has to do with the news.” Emma smirked. “Of course it does.” She took one last sip of coffee before standing. “Lead the way.” Aiden was sitting at his desk, his expression unreadable as he glanced up at her. Emma sauntered in, closing the door behind her. “To what do I owe the pleasure?” Aiden placed his pen down. “You are making headlines again.” Emma smirked. “And?” Aiden leaned back, studying her. “Davis is drowning. And you are the one holding him under.” Emma crossed her arms. “That is the plan.” Aiden tilted his head slightly. “You could have come to me first.” Emma raised an eyebrow. “Do I need your permission?” Aiden smirked. “No. But I could have made it easier for you.” Emma narrowed her eyes. “Why do you care?” Aiden’s gaze darkened slightly. “Because my name is now tied to yours. If you fall, I fall. And I do not fall.” Emma leaned against his desk, meeting his gaze directly. “Then maybe you should let me handle this my way.” Aiden chuckled. “You enjoy this too much.” Emma smirked. “And you do not?” Aiden did not answer, but the way his lips curled told her everything she needed to know. Meanwhile, at Davis’ office, chaos reigned. Davis paced behind his desk, his phone pressed to his ear. “Fix this! I do not care what it takes—just get the media off my back!” His PR manager, looking pale and exhausted, shook his head. “Sir, it is too late. The scandal has already spread too far. Sponsors are cutting ties. Investors are panicking.” Davis slammed his fist against the desk. “This is Emma’s doing.” The PR manager swallowed nervously. “Sir, with all due respect… you should not have underestimated her.” Davis clenched his jaw. “She thinks she has won, but I am not finished yet.” He grabbed his phone, his fingers tightening around it. If Emma wanted a war, she was going to get one.
