THIRD PERSON POV Alpha Lucas of the Crimson Claw pack was a very imposing figure. Standing at six and a half feet tall, with a muscular build and piercing blue eyes, he commanded respect and authority wherever he went. His thick, raven-black hair was meticulously styled, and his beard was well-trimmed, adding to his air of power and dominance. Lucas had inherited the role of Alpha from his father, a legendary leader who had established the Crimson Claw pack as one of the most formidable in the region. Under Lucas's rule, the pack had only grown stronger, expanding their territory and maintaining a strict hierarchy among their members. Behind the role of being an Alpha, Lucas had believed in having a strong Luna by his side, a partner who would complement his strength with grace and wisdom. He had found that in Amelia, a strikingly beautiful woman with long, flowing chestnut hair and warm hazel eyes. Amelia was a goddess in Lucas' eyes but she lost her hands in a cold accident. Despite the tragic loss of her hands, Lucas's love for Amelia remained unwavering. He saw beyond her physical limitations and admired her strength and resilience. However, Amelia made the difficult decision to reject his love, believing that she couldn't fulfill the role of Luna as she once imagined due to her disability. Lucas was heartbroken and struggled to understand Amelia's decision but his father was against whatever they would ever have. Lucas' mind drifted to what happened on the rainy day his father had humiliated and rejected Amelia. ° ° On that rainy day, Lucas's father, the former Alpha, had summoned Amelia to a gathering of pack members. The air was heavy with anticipation as everyone wondered what the Alpha had in store. Amelia, dressed in a modest gray dress, entered the clearing with a sense of trepidation, her head held high despite her nervousness. Lucas watched from a distance, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew his father's traditional views on strength and perceived weakness, and he feared that Amelia's disability would be seen as a flaw, unworthy of the role of Luna. As Amelia approached his father, the Alpha's voice boomed through the clearing, filled with disdain and contempt. He publicly berated Amelia, mocking her for her perceived shortcomings and belittling her worth to the pack. The words stung like arrows in Lucas's heart, and he clenched his fists, his eyes blazing with anger. "How do you plan on protecting the pack with a single hand?" His father's voice echoed. Amelia, her face flushed with embarrassment and hurt, stood tall, refusing to back down. She listened to the Alpha's cruel words, her gaze steady and unwavering. Despite the pain, she maintained her dignity and refused to let his words define her. Lucas felt a surge of protective anger well up within him as he witnessed the injustice inflicted upon the woman he loved. With a deep breath, Lucas stepped forward, his voice firm as he addressed his father. "Her worth is not defined by her physical abilities alone," he declared, his tone cutting through the tension in the clearing. A slap soon landed on his face at that very moment. Lucas staggered back from the force of the blow, his cheek stinging with pain. He looked at his father, the former Alpha, with a mix of shock and defiance in his eyes. The gathered pack members watched in stunned silence, their gazes shifting between the two Alphas. His father's voice dripped with contempt as he spoke. "You dare challenge me, boy? Defending a weakling like her?" Lucas straightened himself, wiping a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth. His voice was steady, though laced with suppressed anger. "I challenge your narrow-mindedness and cruelty. Strength comes in many forms, not just physical power." His father's eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint flickering in them. "You've grown soft, Lucas. Sentimentality will be the downfall of this pack." Lucas's voice rose, filled with confidence. "Compassion and understanding are not weaknesses, father. They make us stronger as a pack, as a community." The former Alpha's face twisted with rage, his dominance threatened by his son's defiance. He bellowed, "Leave this pack. You are no longer welcome here." A collective gasp swept through the crowd as the words hung heavy in the air. Lucas's heart sank, realizing the weight of his father's request. But he stood tall, his gaze unwavering, and he turned to Amelia, who stood silently, her eyes brimming with tears. "Come with me," he said to her, extending a hand. "We will find our own path, built on respect and acceptance." Amelia hesitated for a moment, her gaze locked with Lucas's, before she wiggled her head to indicate no. "No Lucas!" Her voice came out in sobs. Despite her tears and sobs, Amelia's decision shone through. She understood the sacrifices Lucas was making for her, but she couldn't bear to see him cast aside by his own pack and face an uncertain future. She believed that he deserved a chance to fulfill his destiny as Alpha without being burdened by her disability. Lucas looked at Amelia with sadness and love, his heart aching at the thought of her rejection. He knew that their paths were diverging, at least for now, but he couldn't deny his deep affection for her. With a heavy heart, Lucas nodded slowly, accepting Amelia's decision. He released his outstretched hand and took a step back, his eyes never leaving hers. "You let your disability define you," he said, his eyes glistening with tears. Amelia's tears flowed freely as she listened to Lucas's words. Her heart broke at the pain in his voice, but she knew deep down that she had made the right choice for both of them. She had seen Lucas's potential as a strong Alpha, and she didn't want to hold him back from fulfilling his destiny. "It's not about letting my disability define me, Lucas," Amelia replied, her voice filled with emotion. "It's about allowing you to lead without the burden of my limitations. I believe in you, and I want you to be the best Alpha you can be." Lucas reached out to wipe away a tear from Amelia's cheek, his touch gentle and filled with longing. "I love you, Amelia," he whispered. "No, I'm a weakling and you need only a strong Luna." She had said. Lucas's heart shattered at Amelia's words, ° ° Lucas shut his eyes trying to forget all that had transpired that day. He was about to leave his room for the night event he had been invited for, when a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. He opened his eyes and sighed, composing himself before calling out, "Come in." The door creaked open, revealing his beta, Gabriel, standing at the entrance. Gabriel stepped into the room. "Alpha Lucas," Gabriel began, he cleared his throat, his eyes meeting Lucas's. "There have been reports of increased rival pack activity near our borders. They seem to be testing our defenses, and it won't be long before they make a move." Prepare the pack for a possible confrontation," Lucas instructed, his voice commanding. "We cannot afford to let our guard down. We will show them the Crimson Claw pack isn't one to joke with" Gabriel nodded, understanding the urgency of the situation. "I will relay your orders immediately, Alpha Lucas. We will be ready to defend our territory." As Gabriel turned to leave, Lucas called out, "Wait, Gabriel." The beta paused, looking back at Lucas with a questioning expression. "Tell the pack," Lucas began, his voice carrying a hint of seriousness, "that we may face challenges, but we are stronger together. We will overcome any obstacle that comes our way, and we will emerge victorious." "I will make sure they hear your message, Alpha Lucas. We stand by your side," With a nod of gratitude, Lucas watched as Gabriel left the room, closing the door behind him. Alone once again, Lucas took a deep breath, his resolve renewed. Despite the pain and heartbreak, Lucas knew that he had a pack to lead and protect. As he prepared himself for the night's event, Lucas couldn't help but hope that someday, fate wouldn't bring him and Amelia together again.
