EVELYN POV
I pushed the strand of hair that had fallen over my face, the blaring music coming from the music echoed everywhere. The ball must have started even if I couldn't see anything but the darkness that shaded the blind.
As I stood there in my own darkness, the thumping bass and pulsating rhythms seeped through the walls, vibrating the air around me.
It was baffling, the lack of image adding to the surreal atmosphere of the ball.
I could feel the anticipation and excitement in the air, even if I couldn't see the elaborate decorations or the vibrant colors that surely adorned the venue.
As I ventured deeper into the unknown with Jenny beside me, a gust of warm air brushed against my skin, indicating that I had reached the main hall.
The music intensified, swirling around me like a hurricane, engulfing me in its energetic embrace. I could hear snippets of laughter and conversation, the clinking of glasses, and the occasional gasp of awe.
"What would you like to drink?" Jenny's voice came.
I turned my head towards Jenny, her voice barely audible over the bluster of sound. "Surprise me," I shouted back, hoping she could hear me. The energy of the room was infectious, and I was eager to immerse myself in the festivities.
"Ohhhh, you know I always come with the best. Can you wait here for a second?"
I nodded, my heart pounding with both excitement and nervousness about what she would get me. Jenny disappeared into the crowd, leaving me standing alone in the swirling chaos of the ball. I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself.
I was stunned at the same time shocked when I was pulled by the hands. As I was pulled by the hands, my heart skipped a beat.
The sudden contact startled me, and I instinctively gripped onto the person's hands, seeking some anchor in the chaotic environment. The music continued to blast around us, but in that moment, everything else faded into the background.
"Jenny, is that you?" I asked while still being pulled.
The person tugging at my hand didn't respond immediately, and I could feel the tension building up inside me. As they continued to guide me through the crowd, my curiosity mixed with a hint of unease.
"No, it's not Jenny," a deep voice finally replied, barely audible above the noise. The voice was unfamiliar, and a shiver ran down my spine. Who was this person pulling me away?
My heart raced as we moved through the crowd, the pulsating music fading into a distant hum. I couldn't see anything, but the touch of their hand provided a sense of security, conflicting with the apprehension swirling inside me.
Who are you?" I called out, my voice tinged with both curiosity and anxiety. The silence that followed only added to the mystique of the situation.
Finally, we came to a stop, and the person released their grip on my hand. The absence of their touch left me feeling slightly disoriented.
"I don't know why the Moon Goddess chose you as my mate, a clearly not beffiting one at that," his voice came leaving me in confusion.
I blinked, trying to process his words. "Mate? Moon Goddess?" I repeated, my mind racing to make sense of the situation. Was this some kind of elaborate role-play? Or had I stumbled upon a secret society gathering?
"I can't even see you to know who exactly you are!" My voice came out and that had enraged a mocking laughter from him.
The mocking laughter sent a chill down my spine, and I could feel the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. The atmosphere had shifted, and I began to question whether this encounter was a part of the ball or something more sinister.
"Why are you laughing? This isn't funny," I said, my voice trembling with both fear and frustration.
"I had been intrigued by you when I first attended the ball, the thought of finding a mate as the Alpha of the twilight fang pack gave me joy but blindness would only weaken my pack and make us weaklings too!" His voice echoed.
His words struck me like a bolt of lightning. Alpha of the Twilight Fang pack? But how didn't I feel any pull? I thought meeting your mate brought attraction and connection.
"You have spoiled my entire evening, I would reject you as a mate!" He uttered.
Without letting me say anything further, his voice came. "I, Alpha Elliott of the Twilight Fang pack, reject a blind person as a mate."
My heart sank as Alpha Elliott's words echoed in my ears. The weight of his rejection bore down on me in an unexpected way, causing a mix of emotions to surge through her veins.
I had hoped for a night of excitement and revelry, not a painful encounter like this.
Tears threatened to well up in my eyes, but I had refused to let them fall. I straightened my posture not to show any weakness in front of the arrogant Alpha.
"Alpha Elliott," she began, her voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions within her. "I may be blind, but that does not define my worth. I have thrived in a world that relies on sight, and my blindness has only made me stronger. Your rejection means nothing to me."
I said but he chuckled. "If you believe that then tell me exactly how I look and how we can live happily with your condition?" He questioned.
A surge of frustration welled up within me as Alpha Elliott continued to mock my blindness. I took a deep breath, refusing to let his words undermine my self-worth.
"I refuse to let your narrow-mindedness diminish my spirit. My worth as a mate or as an individual extends far beyond my ability to see. If you cannot see that, then it is your loss, not mine.
With that, I turned away from Alpha Elliott, refusing to let his narrow-mindedness consume me. I tried to find my way back to the ball but I was glad when Jenny's voice came.
"Evelyn! There you are! I've been looking all over for you," Jenny exclaimed, relief evident in her voice.
I reached out and grabbed onto Jenny's arm, grateful for her presence. "Jenny, let's get out of here. This ball is not what I expected."
"Why, the mating ball just started, and guess what? You need to have a taste of the foods and drinks, they will amaze you and blow your mind….. Puff." She uttered making a funny sound that got me chuckling.
I chuckled at Jenny's comment, momentarily letting go of the weight of the encounter with Alpha Elliott. Perhaps the rest of the evening could still be salvaged with good company and delicious treats. I nodded in agreement, ready to immerse myself in the sensory experiences the ball had to offer.
Lead the way, Jenny," I said,
Despite the rejection and the initial disappointment, I refused to let it ruin my night. The ball had just begun, and there was still so much to explore and enjoy.
As Jenny guided me through the bustling crowd once again, the music, laughter, and aromas of delectable food filled the air. I allowed myself to be carried away by the excitement and the sense of possibility that lingered in the atmosphere.
No matter what had transpired, I knew I would make the most of the night. I would dance, laugh, and savor every moment, "this tastes absolutely nice!" I said, sipping from the cup in my hands.
"I told you, why don't we dance?" Jenny's voice came.
I smiled, feeling the rhythm of the music pulsating through my body. "Sure!" I said as I was pulled to the dance floor by Jenny and the cup of drink in my other hands.
We both began to dance and swirl to the music while we laughed and chuckled at the same time, we both sang along to the music until Jenny whispered in my ear.
"I need to use the toilet, I will be back!" She screamed through the loud music while I nodded.
As Jenny disappeared into the crowd, I continued to dance, losing myself in the lively atmosphere of the ball. The music throbbed in my veins, and I moved to its intoxicating rhythm, letting it carry me away.
Lost in the moment, I shut my eyes and allowed my body to sway and twirl, feeling the energy of the music coursing through me but all that halted when I bumped into something causing my remaining content to spill on the floor.
It felt like a hard chest and the pull and connection I felt at that moment were clearly unexplainable.
startled by the unexpected collision. My heart raced as I tried to regain my balance, realizing that I had bumped into someone.
"Mate!" The words left my lips.
"A second Mate?"
"I'm so sorry," I quickly apologized, reaching out to steady myself. But as my hand made contact with the person's chest, a jolt of electricity shot through me, igniting a spark within.
I felt a warm hand gently grasp mine, guiding it away from his chest. As I stood there, my heart pounding in my chest, I couldn't help but feel a strange connection to this person. It was as if the universe had brought us together at that moment.
My hands slowly brushed his arms but he flung them away.
"Don't touch me!" He growled loudly like I was some piss of s**t.
I pulled my hands back, taken aback by his sudden rejection. Confusion washed over me as I tried to comprehend his reaction. Why had he pulled away so abruptly? Did I do something wrong?
"I'm sorry if I overstepped," I stammered, my voice laced with uncertainty. "I didn't mean to invade your personal space. It was an accident."
He remained silent for a moment, his expression unreadable in the darkness. "It's not that you invaded my personal space but you are overstepping your boundaries by being my mate!"
"I, I ... I don't understand," I managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper even if his words were beginning to sting badly.
"You are a weak wolf and blind, you have no worth right now!" His voice echoed as the blaring music in the hall seized instantly.
My heart sank at his words, the pain of rejection washing over me once again. It was as if the world around us had fallen silent, leaving only his harsh words echoing in my ears.
"But... I... I thought finding a mate was supposed to be a joyful event," I whispered, my voice trembling with a mix of hurt and confusion.
He scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. "Joyful? Not for me. I am an Alpha, and I cannot afford to have a mate who will weaken my pack. Your blindness makes you a liability, not an asset."
"I'm never a liability!" My voice came out trembling because I could hear little whispers from the crowd.
"Then prove that to me!"
